What is your choice for everyday transportation?

I currently go to the office on our motorcycle, my boyfriend and I and it is fast and can get through the hassle of traffic in the road especially during the rush hour. But if I actually have a choice, I would love to go to work with just a bicycle, only if the weather permits. Because it is sooooo hot here in our place. I would want a bicycle because theres no pollution, and it is also exercise everyday.
A car would emit pollution if not maintained properly, a car wold be great if its raining but under normal circumstances I would love to go around our place in a bicycle.
How about you, whats your choice of everyday transportation?

I live in a center of a town, and I am near quite everything. I have a car, but finding a free parking is very difficult during working hours, and this town has a lot of hills and is not friendly for bicycles, so I prefer to walk. I enjoy also to walk in the countryside every day... and I take my car to do it.

While you were walking through this discussion you could not manage to take a minute to stop by my response box and say "hi" or leave a comment or anything? You could not even offer a hand with the groceries?

I would threaten to file for a divorce, but seeing as I just recently discovered in another discussion that you are already married I guess that would not be any incentive at all for you to remember your duties in the future.

Where I live I do not really have much of an option. I need to use the car or I am not going any place. I like to walk, but even if I could make it all the way to the store with my little one in tow I would never make it back home carrying her and any groceries. It would be the same with trying to ride a bicycle. Even if I had a bike with a child seat and a basket to put groceries in, by the time I made it to the store and did even a little shopping I am not sure I would have enough energy to be able to make it back home. We live in the country, so many of the roads are not really "bicycle friendly" anyway.

LOL! Thank you for such a kind offer, but I don't think that your wheelchair would be the best option, either. It would help with the child and carrying the groceries, but I suspect I would have even more chance of getting hit by a car. Besides, if it is not battery charged, then my arms would fall off before I even got to the store. If it is battery charged, then I would probably run the battery out before I got back home.

Riding a bicycle would be very enjoyable indeed. Yes, as you said, it is also a good excersize, especially after a long day at work. For me, my work place is a bit too far for a bicycle ride. So, I used to drive my car before, but these days, with the gas prices rising all the time, I am taking the public transport, buses and trains.

I dont have the resources right now but I would love to have a bike, a mountain bike that I can take anywhere I want to go within the vicinity of course. But then the weather does not permit that here, it is too crazy hot and i will get burned by the time I get to my destination.

Riding a bicycle is nice. However, I would prefer a car not just because of the convenience, but it is a necessity where I live. This city has so much urban sprawl, which I do not understand why people choose to live so far away from each other. Also, the public transportation system is really bad, and is getting worse with the cutbacks. The service was already terrible having to literally wait hours for the bus, then when it arrives, it is roulette on what is going on with the bus. Sometimes, one wishes they had a bicycle as they might be the bus to the destination if everything wasn't so far away. Another reason I am going for a car is because I carry an art portfolio to school, and it is difficult to hold while riding a bike, and it does not meet the cargo limitations on the buses. Finally, because I have classes at school at night, it is safer to get in a car, rather than standing outside waiting for a bus, or riding a bike in some unknown area in the middle of the night, especially since crime has escalated around here. Don't get me wrong, I like having a bike, but for practical reasons, I must have a car.

i must use my car because it serves me at my work.
before i had a car i used to take a bus.
now i don't like taking busses because i still have the fear that they will explode..
this fear remains inside me since there were terror attacks and bombs in busses in Israel some years ago..

ooh there is also that fear of a bus exploding but whenever we take any type of transportation, I guess we are actually trusting the driver that he will get us safe to our destination. we always take the chance because we have to - or else I will get late for work. :)

Before I passed my practical driving test I liked to cycle on my bike and then go by train to work. For another teaching job I cycled all the way there and back. Otherwise I would have had to taken two buses or two trains with a walk between the east and west train station. I was very fit and healthy in those days due to all my cycling.
Now I have a disabled son aged 4 and a daughter aged 2 then I like to drive my car. Luckily I finally passed my practical driving test last year. My car is small and it had five doors. I am not able to get my son's wheelchair on all buses and the train only goes to a limited amount of places. My bike had 21 gears and it went up hills easily. I had bags either side of the back wheels with all my books in. These cycle bags were heavy.

If the weather was cool, I would just take a bike going to work or to anywhere within the vicinity. I love riding a bike, but here it is so hot so it will burn me by the time I get to my destination. It is very important that you have your own transportation for your son, and bags when necessary. Good thing that you have your own.
Sometimes the transportation would have to be beneficial to us not just for the sake of having one.
Thanks for sharing!

Well other than if i have to go somewhere or I'm scheduled to work i don't go much of anywhere. But typically we drive hubby's car to work and keep the miles off the mini van unless we need to bring all the kids with.
I wish we had more bike or even moped friendly roads around here... but we don't. Many main roads have higher speeds and no bike lanes nor sidewalks for even pedestrians.

car is the best answer so far, well I dont blame you because it is definitely convenient for everyone in it. Safe from the sun or rain. But what I don't like when riding a car or a closed vehicle is THE TRAFFIC! LOL
Whereas with a motorcycle or bicycle, there's no traffic and you can easily move around vehicles.

my office from my place is just 5mins away from my place. usually i ride a jeepney or taxi if it's raining going to the office and most of the time these past few days, i enjoy walking home while listening to music.
i'm about to transfer place and hoping it won't be that far from my office cause i don't wanna spend so much money for taxi fare.
i would love to use bicycle but unfortunately i dont know how to. if i could i would have bought bicycle a long time ago.

My choice of transportation depends on my plans. If I am going to a place in my own town I often walk. The shops and everything else are not that far away from my home so it easy to walk there, and it also gives me chance to get fresh air and exercise. Going by bike would also be an option, but I usually prefer to walk. I am very happy that it is possible to walk from my home to the shops, because I used to live in willage where we always had to drive into town (it was too far to walk or bike) If my husband and I are going to the big city on the neighbour island we always go by car. It would take all day if we had to walk, so it is neccesary to use the car.

I prefer to have a car or van. But i dont have a choice for me going to work. I dont have a car of my own. Now i always go ride to van, train and other public vehicles to go to office and anywhere i go. Train and other public transport is nice coz most of them now are air conditions. They are nice and good..

I live a good distance away from my school, and I take public transportation every weekday. This involves a half-hour or more on the bus, and then almost twenty minutes on the subway, but it is not so bad! I hear a lot of complaints about public transit, but I have never had much of a problem with it. If I had a choice, I would not mind riding a motorcycle, as you do, but here in Quebec it costs $1000 just to get a driver's license!

When I was still living in Japan, I loved riding the bicycle and the train. Bicycles are very convenient to use there, and it's very safe because of the sidewalk. And you can go around your neighborhood or go to the nearest mall without spending on transportation. You don't need to pay for gas or anything. :) The train system in Japan is very well organized too. One look at the map and I'll know where to go, which station to use, etc.
However, the situation here in the Philippines is very different. I can't ride the bicycle here even if I want to because of the pollution, and the fact that it is not bicycle-friendly almost everywhere I go. How can you ride a bicycle in C5 or EDSA, right? Also, there's only a few train stations here, so I couldn't go to the places I want at once. I have to ride another mode of transportation like taxi or jeep, etc. So here in the Philippines, car would be my option.

Yeah if the weather permits I would love to have and take a bicycle anywhere I want to go. It is exercise and gets me in time because there's no traffic you can easily move your way around using a bicycle.
I am not used to taking the taxi anymore, fares go up every now and then, so usually our motorcycle or the train too.
