I am Catholic but since I have sooo much very very bad things happen in my life for the past couple years the ideas of some yohooo friend of mine keep popping up in my mind. I suffer from ptsd and depression due to my ex husband. Now I find my self questioning God and his exhisitance. I pray and it comforts me but I am scared to death. This yahoooo friend would tell me that there is just no proof of God and that the dead sea scrolls prove that and so forth and so on and I would argue back . Now I just need help. Need my faith back AT LEAST please GOD GIVE ME MY FAITH BACK

First, it is true there is no proof of God, if by proof you mean the kind of proof that the world is round, etc. But then there is no proof of this kind that we are conscious. Yet we do not doubt that we are conscious.
The only proof we are conscious or of God is our own personal experience.
Be still, and know that I am God
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

I agree with some of what you say, except one- that there is no 'proof' of God. If you believe what the bible says, what we base our faith on then we are the proof of Gods existence because it says that we were made in His image and likeness- which means He does have and image and likeness and we were made in it- hence proof in the mirror that He exists.

Please read more carefully, I said there was no proof of the kind that proves the world is round, etc. NOT that there is no proof.
Claiming biblical authority for the existence of God is an invalid argument since the authority of the Bible rests upon it being God's word, therefore the argument is circular

Thank you urbandekay. It seems that a lot of people would rather pretend that there is No God. I am in a panicky mode and my fears are taking over. I really would like to know that I can lean on God. I have had so much bad happen to me and when my son was taken away it's just flipped my world upside down to the point of; who do I trust? Where do I go.

I think that you are being tested. Your faith and trust in God is being put to the test so you can be an instrument for others.
I wouldn't pretend to know how difficult the situation that you are in, but I just hope that you take comfort in others too, who believe, and who knows that you wouldn't be given a burden that you couldn't take.
I hope you hang in there.

Hi cat,
There's no proof to God's existence. If one keep on looking for it, it shall never be found.
Ironically, God is always around us, in our daily lives and experiences, in the march of history and in the whole universal scheme. The one that kept order, that provides food, that speaks in our conscience, and yes, the one in our pain and suffering, God is always there.
"During those times when you could see only set of footprints as you look back at your life, especially at your lowest and saddest moments...it was then that I carried you."

Do not be in touch with that friend of yours. She cannot help you get out of your depression. Pray to God fervently ,to help you make your faith in HIM stronger.
I too, suffered a very heavy problem long time ago. I even once thought of taking my own life. But my sister accompanied me with my husband's permission to prayer meetings and everything about God. That made me realize, there's a God who can truly help us ,if only we believe in HIM.
Though, my problem have not been totally eliminated, i can say that i am now happier and assured that God will help me all the way.
Never lose your faith my friend. Join friends who are prayerful.

Times are rough all over! Welcome to the club...lol
Seriously...it happens when we desire more and we get depressed when we fail to achieve it.It's so natural for we humans.I believe there is no such thing as God.I doubt he is also man-made.I only believe if you cannot help yourself,no one is going to help you out. After all,we live in the world where we have to trade for living.
I have no problem with people who believe in God and if you are one of those believers, then always keep in mind that they say God only helps those who help themselves...lol It means you still have to help yourself.I think you should start doing something that is good and can bring happiness for you and the people around you instead of only praying.Be more energetic and fight and that's what we supposed to do.After all, that's called life.

Hi there!
I suffered depression same as you up to this time but it never came to a point that I questioned God. For now, the pain still lingers and I may say that I'm not recovering yet and all my problems are not yet been resolved and don't know what to do to have a good and happy life ahead of me.
Keep holding on my friend. I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you and grant you wisdom. Have faith in HIM and everything turns out fine.
With your friend don't bother with his belief about God. If you want to know the proof about the existence of GOD then read the BIBLE. Also, if there's no GOD who wants to do good? nothing..right? In this world everybody is trying their best to do good inorder for us to enter heaven.
You may talk to a priest or have confession for you to have peace of mind.

I would have thought that, as a Catholic, you'd be better off in awful times. That whole religious subset of Christianity is based on guilt and punishment, isn't it?
(I'm kidding, just trying to make you laugh!)
There is no proof of God, of course. But then there's no proof there isn't one, either. That's what faith's for. You just have to believe that your God is up there and cares, no matter how much crap you have to go through. And you can always comfort yourself with the knowledge that the people doing you wrong will end up in Purgatory for a really, really long time.
