Hello MYLOTTERS,
I think some of the people donot understand their responsibilty.
I see lot of people throwing garbage on roads, spit on road even sometime piss on road side.I feel pity on them as they feel that their houses should remain clean does not matter whatever happens outside but they forget that they cannot stop diseases to enter their homes. Is it not there responsibilty to keep road clean or its just out of the scope of their responsibilities?.
I see lot of people smoking in public areas they don't care for others who don't smoke.I remember once i said one smoker not to smoke he said if you are not feeling comfortable then you leave from here.I left that place because at that time i was not in a mood to argue.Does this happen with you???Please share.

Responsibility..Oh gee..For the record, I don't disagree about trashing the world. I believe it shows a complete disregard for other folks and tho a smoker I don't smoke around non-smokers or kids. That having been said..Having recenctly reached 59 years, through no fault of my own (I've done some really dumb things that could have compromised that accomplishment.) I have often heard fusses like yours concerning various forms of 'social responsibility' and being the quirky fella that I am I have questions of my own..I'm sure, given your concerns for social responsibility, that you drive, at the very least, a hybrid vehicle if not a fully electric because I'm sure that you'd not drive a fully internal combustion vehicle and screw up everyone's breathing space. I'm also sure that everything within your personal environment is of a recyclable nature and that you religiously recycle and not mess up the environment by contributing to landfill growth.I'd also think that you have a fully functioning solar/wind power array so as not to support power companies using environmentally unsafe things like coal and nuclear (waste).
Of course, you may fall short on any/all of these 'questions' in which case its time for you to climb down from your soapbox and build a better foundation for it.
Enjoy!

Ever since my dippie hippie days I've had many environmental concerns that stemmed out of my coming up on a farm in Ohio where we were considered 'backward' technologically but which, in truth, was 'forward' environmentally. Yet these same people who fussed at us didn't mind sending their kids to hop the fence and take their share, without asking, of the blackberries and pears in the pasture when they came to ripe. Neither did they mind sending their kids in winter and summer to run rampant in our 'backward' environment until suppertime when they returned to the proper one and with their parents derided the 'dumb' farmboys..Yet, despite telling us for years how we should properly use our environment..little houses made of ticky-tacky..when my dad and his twin sold off the pasture and half the field space their derisive nature turned to condemning us for not conserving the environment.
Tho not an exact comparison it is in that nature that I see most of the fussers. Too often it appears that they are the people driving their suv's to rallies about air pollution. They march in the streets carrying signs, banners and flags that eventually wind up in the landfills they condemn. It seems to me that if these folks spent more time fussing and finger pointing in front of a mirror and became the example of what they want rather than the hypocracy of it things would develop much faster..and good, bad, or indifferent on me that's how I've learned to deal with the superficiality of such folks. There's entirely too many folks lookin' to get the rewards while passin' the responsibilities off to someone else..
Enjoy!!

It happened to me many times.Specially it happens with my smokers friend everyday.I keep trying my best to let them leave the smoking, but they are not bothering.Actually it depends on personal mentality. We can not stop them by just saying. What I think is that laws should be enforced to stop this.Government and environment ministry should come forward and media can also help to increase awareness among these common senseless people. We can try also by teaching our younger from the beginning for their life.

Hello dabang,
Here in DELHI it was started that the person who will smoke on the public place will be fined for Rs 100 but i have rarely seen a person being charged for it.It is tough to ask the smoker to stop smoking at public place as in most of the cases you have to leave the place.I have also lot of friends who smoke but when i also ask them to leave smoking they simply start arguing.

This is the problem buddy of our government. They made the rules but do not enforce it and charged it.If they apply it few times, then everyone will stop. But it is government who has to start it.

Hi sjvg! I hate that there are still so many people who have such a
high disregard for keeping public areas clean! Where I live in the
USA, NYS there are places that are worse than others. It upsets me
to see people throw litter on the ground when there is usually a
garbage recepticle not too far away. As for smokers, I unfortuantely
am one and I do obey the laws. I do not smoke in areas where I'm
going to bother others who don't and I don't leave my mess for others
to have to clean up.

Looking at your question at a glance can mean anything. You could rephrase it as if we understand our environmental responsibilities or our responsibilities to protect environment.
There are so many people that we encounter and so many environmental habits we have to live with. Sometimes if one is courageous enough, he/she can confront certain behavior. Still, it comes down to understanding and realizing consequences and impact.
In countries with growing health and environmental awareness like US, officials are setting policy for smoking. For example, you can only smoke in a designated area. If one is found smoking in a non-smoking zone, that person could be confronted. Hopefully, there needs no further altercation or argument.
I'm not sure if there is much in place about garbage policy. Generally, I haven't really found anyone throwing garbage without any consideration. It doesn't mean that all streets, roads, pavement are completely cleaned. Often, I find some pieces here and there. Some people are reckless, but what can you do. Sometimes, the wind is really strong.

Hello Garson,
Yes we should understand our environmental responsibilities and should keep our environment cleaner.
In country like INDIA people don't give much importance to the place outside their house for them environment is confined to their houses but they forget that an official who is kept by government to clean roads is not sufficient so we should also take up the responsibility to keep these clean.

Hi there!
I do know and understand the responsibility very well on how to be a good citizen. We were taught to be good since we are young by our parents and we never did things like you mentioned above. I will try as much as possible to give the best and will try not to harm people around me. I think people like the smoker in your situation above love people to suffer like them. That is why they smoke without feel any guilty. Public areas is not place for them to smoke. They only can smoke in smoking areas. Most of the time I am the one who leave the place because I don't want to argue with people about simple thing. I am very as many will avoid such kind of people.(^^)

Hello CT,
Thats the best thing i also think is to leave that place because i have seen in most of the cases if you argue with a smoker he won't leave from that place so its better we leave.
But really people should understand it and should concerned about other's health too by their acts.

I think we should be responsible for what happens outside and inside. Sure sometimes it's not THE most pleasant of jobs but we all live here and every little bit helps.
Have you seen shows where communities rally to help one another by repainting this wall, cleaning up this park, or restoring houses?? That is what I would like to see more of.

Hi! Good to see that there are some groups in India that are doing their fair share for the environment and I can understand it would be quite daunting. Do you have some charismatic leaders who are good with communication and ideas?
Keep at it!

i dont like people smoking in pulic place. beacuse smoking is bad to health. if someone like smoking, we dont have the right to stop him, but i think he does not have the right to make others smell his smoking. but in my hometown, there are many people that smoke in pulic.

I really think that its only partially not understanding a duty, more often than not, it is just the fact that a lot of people just do not really care about anything. I cringe when I see garbage in my yard that I most certainly did not place there. Yet people seem to think that my yard is some kind of garbage can. It doesn't happen that often, but at the same time, it happens often enough to really annoy me.
Smoking, I don't like to be near anyone who smokes, because it really agitates my eyes and gives me a bad headache. Yet people seem to think that I'm infringing on their freedom of speech or right to practice religion when I kindly request them not to smoke. If they want to kill themselves slowly, then they should do it in the privacy of their own house. Still some people just don't care about others. Rather sad but unfortunately true.

Hello megamatt,
Thats really bad that people think their house should be neat & clean they hardly bothers about others.
I also have observed it that once you say to smoker to stop smoking he will definitely feel as if we have captured his/her freedom and will start arguing so i have personally felt its better that i leave rather to argue with them.

Hi
Its true that many are breaking the rules. But surely I am not one of them. Means I always use dustbin to throw garbage. And about smoking habit, I don't have it. But yes similar thing happen with me too, But surely we can do nothing about it. I mean most of them will just react as you mentioned above.

Hello AKP,
Thats good habit indeed but what to do with others as we only cannot make this earth a better place we need to make more & more people aware about this.
I know its hard to stop those smokers i also personally feel that its better to leave that place then to argue with them.

I think the person who only care about their own business is selfish. When he or she throw the rubbish in the street,it will increase the work load of cleaners.Local media and publish company can report this sort of deed to rise resident's quality.
When i come across a smoker,i will quit rather than arguing with them.

Hello iamsummer,
That right friend i also do the same because i know i won't be able to stop that person so its better i leave from there.
Its bad that people just think of themselves and throw the garbage anywhere which they must think and should not do.They should understand that to keep roads and public places clean is also our responsibility we cannot expect only cleaners to clean those.

Hey sjvg1976..
It just common decency to not litter this world we live in..I mean we live on this ONE planet, its not like we can get up and move to another- so I cant see why people treat it literally like a rubbish bin..
As for the smoking thing.. I reckon each to their own, if you dont like it you do have the option to move, but as do they (*out of respect of others around them*)- I reckon it works both ways..but it depends on the situation and the personality of that individual..
Myself, Im a smoker.. and to be fair, I do move out of the way If I find Im irritating anyone- I mean if I want to smoke, that is MY choice.. thats the way I see it..

Hello Vivamir,
Thats right people should respect others as they should move like you do if they feel that they are irritating someone by smoking.
Some people knowing it do things which are harmful for the environment still they do they should be stopped rule should be made do check it & if it is already there then we should make it a bit strict for people.

Hi friend your concern about responsibility is very good, but in our country people like to disobey the rules of there duty for society and environment.they do what they want and if somebody tell them that this is wrong they fight but never except there fault, like in case of all smoking.I feel Govt. should take strong action for this type of irresponsible people.I am saying this because I put my little bit to make our street and place clean.

Hello bholebaba,
Yes government should take a strict action to punish these people who disobey law.I know that when you say to a smoker to stop smoking he/she will take it an ego issue and will argue so i normally don't argue but myself leave the place politely.I think this is the best way.

I know what you mean, it seems like humanity has just stopped caring. We are driving our planet and our entire existence into the ground single-handedly. Self destruction is in our near future if the world doesnt start looking out for itself.

Yes friend government should really take a step to make them understand by any means may be they should be strict to fine them heavily. But they should be a taught a lesson and it should get in to their minds that yes to keep roads clean is also their responsibility.

That smoker should think again! He's the one who should be staying away as he was the one who brought the changed condition. Smokers endanger the health of others so they should at least be considerate of those who don't. Nobody's stopping them if they want to smoke but they should observe proper etiquette in doing so.
People are not really sensitive to their environment at all. They are just concerned of their own homes. The moment they step out, they just don't care what they do outside. They should always think that the earth is our home.

Hello toni,
Thats true some of the people don't think of others they just think of themselves.I know that smoker he was just concerned with himself and he had nothing to do with others.Yes people are least concerned with the environment. They don't understand that they sometime adversely effect the environment by their work.

i think that if only our nation will implement stricter rules then there will be no one who would litter on the streets and smoke anywhere. when someone is smoking i do not have the courage to say to the smoker to go away instead i will be going somewhere else where the air is fresh.
