To all my friends on Mylot does anyone have a remedy for keeping mosquitoes from biting. I'm now living in Puerto Rico and the mosquitoes are having a field day with my legs. I have tried the off sprays and creams but the smell or feel of them just don't agree with me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

No, it does not leave a smell on you. It will also probably give you more energy. I should have read before I responded, as I gave you this hint and the one in the next box as well. I hope you are enjoying yourself, in spite of the mosquitoes. I think eating garlic repels them as well.

Hi, I got some info on deterring mosquitos from another member on mylot and that is to use a spray bottle with THE MOUTHWASH LISTERINE AND SPRAY YOURSELF, YOUR KIDS AND I EVEN SPRAY MY DOGS !
It's pretty good for chasing off bees off my humming bird feeders too !
I hope this helps. My grandson won't go outside with out it and it's cheap enough!!

I think it feels rather fresh and cooling. Some people do not like the smell, but I think it is okay.

I am told that taking an anti histamine at night keeps them at bay. There was something else but I have forgotten

Thank you so much for your response but I really can't see taking a pill everynight since I really hate taking any type of medication unless I'm really very sick.

Same like you, i try the mosquito repellent but don't really works effectively. Firstly, i can't stand the smell myself. And seems the mosquitoes are not scared by the smell at all, since they will still bite me. Now, i am bringing my mosquito racket with me whenever i am out from my home. I feel more secure and safe when my mosquito racket is along with me.

I heard from another mylot friend that B6 would help. I love garlic but it doesn't love me. I have to get a bottle of B6 and start taking that on a regular basis. As for the off lotion I just don't like the feel or smell of it. Thanks for your response I appreciated it very much. Could you explain to me what is Dengue fever and its symptoms? I never heard of it. Thank you!

Citronella oil, from lemon scented plants is supposed to help like lemon balm, lemon grass, and lemon geranium. So is original scented Listerine (generic is okay). I have also heard that taking plenty of b complex vitamins repels them. I have avoided out doors a lot this year, just because of the heat, but generally I do not use insect repellents. Oh, eat less sugar, as well. Make sure there is no standing water nearby.

I have tried the citronella candles and they don't seem to help that much. I just heard about the b complex and never heard of that before. I will by a bottle of it for sure. I don't eat sugar and we make sure there is no standing water at any time because of the mosquitoes problem. Thanks for replying.

I don't know how to make any homemade remedies to shoo away mosquitoes, we just rely mainly on off lotions and creams that is available here in our place. It comes in different kinds of mixture and what I love about the product is you can also get them in hypoallergenic type for sensitive skin and others does not smell bad especially the ones formulated for kids, which can also be used by the adults.
It is also important to have clean environment in order to prevent mosquitoes from breeding in in your place.

You can apply any oil to a plate and trap the mosquitoes as you see them. It works. The mosquitoes get stuck to the oil. You need to go around your house with the plate and get active.

Hi.There are some remedies which do not require you to apply something into your skin.Try buying mosquito net or mosquito coil. I like my feet scratching into mosquito net. And also, mosquito coil now comes in chamomile scent just in case you don't like the original scent.

Some ideas for a natural insect repellant that you may use because it seems the store bought stuff is not working for you.
First of all you are going to need essential oils such as Cinnamon oil, Castor oil, Rosematy, Lemongrass, Citronella oil, Lemon Eucalyptus oil and Peppermint oil. There are many others you can use but try these first.
You are also going to need a base oil also known as a carrier oil. These are things such as Sunflower oil, Olive Oil, Almond Oil and even vodka. You have to consider that you are not allergic to any of these ingredients and also make sure you are using a vodka (if you choose to) that is not harmful to your skin.
Now you need to mix some of the Essential oils with the carrier oil.I suggest you use any 4 of the above Essential oils for the mix you are about to make.
You need to add about 10 - 20 drops of the essential oils, depending on how much you want and how sensitive your skin is. Try using 10 drops first and increase it if you do not get any skin irratations and you find the solution does not help.
Its important to add aboout double the amount of Carrier oil of your choice compared to the amount of Essentials you use.
I also suggest you use a tiny bit on your arm or something first to determine if you have any bad reactions to the fluid. You may need to add carrier oil if you do or even change the essentials you use.
We all have different skin tpes and I cannot gurantee that this will not cause adverse effects so please use with caution and always test it first.
Considering you are using natural oils any irratations should not happen, if you know you have adverse affetcs to any of these subtances then dont use them.
Try to use a natural carrier oil over Vodka.
You need a spray bottle for the fluid for easy application and you can apply it to your skin and even to your clothes avoiding sensitive areas such as your eyes. Also shake the bottle well before use.
Hope this helps you!

Thank you for your detailed response. I do have the Lemon Eucalyptus oil and olive oil. I would not use vodka because I don't like it at all. The carrier oil would be no problem to my skin. However, If I spray it on my clothes the oils won't stain them???
