Frozen pizza versus restaurants or homemade?

Frozen versus Fresh - Pizza in a box or pizza made at home with love

I keep seeing those ads on tv where they say that their frozen pizza is so good that you cant tell if its frozen or if its coming from a restaurant. Oh pu-lease!! Ive tasted some of those frozen pizza and its awful!! They taste like cardboard and most of the time you have no idea what those suspicious fake meat balls on top are?? What are those anyways?? I can see some tiny bits of green peppers, lots of cheese so that everything is hidden. Theres barely no sauce to talk about and I have the feeling that those dark bits and pieces might be what they call mushroom!! So how on earth can they even THINK of saying that you and me wont be able to tell if its frozen or from a pizza restaurant or God forbid, homemade!!! You have to be joking, right? I dont even have to taste a frozen pizza to know that its what it is. I mean, look at it, it even looks awful!! Oh sure it might be great if you're in a hurry or you have a large family to feed and it wont cost you too much.....but I found out that its way cheaper to order out then buy that. Do you think they're going a bit far when they think that WE the people wont be able to tell frozen from fresh??

There are some good frozen pizza in the market. There are also awful restaurant pizzas. The main thing about frozen pizza is convenience, you can microwave it anytime. (I know you are probably thinking we can order delivery). Still there are times where you just take it out and 5 minutes later it is ready to eat.

So, do you freeze it as a ball or already stretched and ready to cook? How much time do you add since it is frozen?

Good for you if you could find a frozen pizza you like. Maybe you need to share what brand you use. Oh sure if you can eat it in 5 mins, its great as you dont have to wait for delivery. I try to keep a frozen homemade pizza dough so that I always have one handy when I feel like pizza which is usually late at night lol.

I freeze it stretched. Then all I have to do is add the stuffing on top and cook it. I start it at 450, then lower it to 350 until the cheese is melted. About 15-20 minutes for my recipe.

i dont buy frozen pizza, i agree with you that it tasted like cardboard and its dry. its like the sauce was eaten by the bread already. i tasted frozen pizza once when i was still single. i rather eat restaurant or home made. where you can see the sauce, on the top of the bread. you even know what is the ingredients on the top of your pizza. while a homemade pizza you can choose what you want to put on it. my son even puts hotdogs on his pizza and hambuger bits har har har. no frozen pizza for me.

Mmmm now hotdogs sounds good. I might just try it next time I make pizza. You might not believe this but years ago, I owned a restaurant and I couldnt believe it but some customers wanted pasta on their pizza. I would make a spaghetti, with sauce and all and dump it all on a pizza. They swore it was delicious.....I never dared try it!!

that sounds interesting but i guess its looks messy already. i would not want to try that too. my nephew demands fries on his home made pizza. my wife puts crunchy onion rings than fresh onions on hers. my son only eats hotdog pizza you put more than that he wont eat it. har har har.

In the states we don't have stuff like hot dog pizza or ffrench fry pizza but in italy it is actually very common. Other things italian put on thier pizza is stuff like corn, egg plant and horse meat if you want to try some new and real italian choices.

Oh, we can tell the difference, but we eat them any way. Hubby usually adds different extra things that we cannot get at the pizza stores. I would like to make home made, hubby thinks the crust would not be good enough, but I think I would do good. Then we could totally customize it.

Well dont tell hubby and make your own. There are great recipes on the net and I know you can do it and he'll never want to buy frozen again. But think very carefully before you start this as then you'll be stuck making your own all the time from now on!! The secret is to start cooking it on a cookie sheet but then after 10 mins, take it off the cookie sheet and put it straight on the grill.

I have a pizza stone, and I find that improves the quality of a frozen pizza a lot.

Woah, well I guess your kids are used to your homemade cooking then. Thats great, so they'll know whats "good" food and whats bad tasting food!! Good for you....but then again, it means you have to either order out or bake it!!!

Frozen pizzas have never delighted me. You are right on how you describe the taste. They really taste like cardboard. Ha!ha!ha! If I'd eat pizza I will of course choose a fresh and newly baked pizza pie. Why would I settle for frozen ones when fresh ones are always available? Of course consumers who are fond of eating pizzas will know the difference between frozen and fresh.

I think consumers would know the difference, so why do companies making frozen pizza keep saying that they taste as good as restaurants or home made? They must think we're stupid then.

frozen pizza? wow its awful and disgusting. my family would rather cook a homemade pizza than buying frozen pizza which i dont know what are they made up. our health might put to a risk when eating pizza that is full of preservatives. in my own mouth, i can tell whether a pizza is a fresh or frozen for the taste is very different after all.

You're a smart one then. You're right, its full of preservatives and at times I wonder what those bits and pieces are made of!! I love homemade pizza.....mmmm So why do commercials on tv keep saying that frozen tastes as good as restaurant then is beyond me!!!

I have tried many different brands of frozen pizza, and I don't like any of them. I live to make my own, and sometimes I do order out if I don't have the stuff at home to make mine.

Same here I try to make my own. I find that Im usually hungry for pizza late at night and nearly all the restaurants in my area are closed......so I always keep a home made pizza dough in the freezer!!

I think that frozen pizza is much better than homemade pizza or pizza from a restaurant No, just joking. I can eat frozen pizza if I am not able to get other kinds of pizza, but I definately prefer homemade pizza or pizza from a restaurant. Most of the time my husband and I buy pizza in a restaurant, but sometimes when we have enough time we also make our own pizza. I think it is crazy to say that you won't be able to tell frozen pizza from fresh pizza. If I closed my eyes and I didn't know what kind of pizza I was eating I am sure that I would be able to recognize the taste of fresh pizza as well as the taste of frozen pizza.

I don't think there will ever be a frozen pizza as good as the homemade or the freshly baked from restaurants. The frozen pizza are a lot cheaper in price so I think the toppings that goes with it are subquality. The crust is also on the hard side and the cheese does not melt at all. I'd rather prepare my own pizza.

Im the same, I try to keep a frozen home made dough for when I feel like pizza. I try to find out what some of the bits and pieces on frozen pizza are......some look suspicious

I think that restaurant pizza and frozen pizzas are just on two completely different levels. I never compare brands of either type. I will compare restaurant pizza with other restaurant pizza and frozen pizza with other frozen pizza. I don't think I've ever tasted a frozen pizza that tasted anywhere as good as something I personally made myself or something I ate out at a restaurant. I will say though that for frozen pizza my favorite is Red Barron. As far as restaurant pizza we have a local place right behind our apartment that is amazingly delicious! YUM!

I'll have to try and find that one then and try it for when I dont have time to make my own. Oh lucky you to have a place right behind where you live. Ive noticed that I always have a taste for pizza late at night when restaurants nearby are closed!!

There is a big difference between frozen, home baked and a restaurant pizza. A frozen is like a cardboard, as you exemplified very clear. But are you hungry you eat it. A home made and a restaurant one is more similiar. Are you fortunate to have that type of oven they've at a restaurant to bake your pizza you got it all set to enjoy a delicious pizza. Have a wonderful day!

Unfortunately, I dont have one of those ovens that they use in restaurants but I do have a stone that I heat up in the oven so that I can bake my pizza on it. It does make a difference in the taste and how the crust cooks. I havent had a frozen pizza in a while as I couldnt find one that would satisfy my hunger. I only felt like I had to eat something after to get that bad taste out of my mouth LOL.
