While some stress is actually necessary for you to function at your best, too much takes a mental and physical toll. Lets share our ideas about managing stress to prevent anxiety, depression and other conditions. One think we can do is write down everything you have to do when you re feeling overwhelmed. Set a time frame then block out when you will accomplish what. By dividing up your workload into manageable chunks, each with an allotted time, we will feel more relaxed about the work before us. We must concentrate on one task at a time. Stressing about work we haven't done yet only detracts from accomplishing the task at hand.

Very well said. When works seems so many, learn to prioritize it. See what are those that needs to be done already and others that could still be done way later. Also, when you already feel overwhelmed by them, stop for a minute or two, close your eyes and say a prayer.

Well, a park or a quiet spot along the beach will be nice too. But that would entail leaving your heaps of works that needs to be done. Closing the eyes and saying a prayer could just be done in your chair amidst your heaps of papers to do. It is the easiest and most convenient way to do, at least.

You have got an excellent idea. Closing your eyes and saying a prayer. Infect in can say that one of the clammiest moment is when we pray with our eyes closed. How do you think of getting in touch with nature. Living constantly in a concrete jungle can wreak havoc on our emotional and physical health. Find a park, memorial garden, or a quiet spot along beach or river.

As I understand, you were dealing with stress that has something to do with your job? First off all, stress is just a signal coming from your brain telling you to do something about a conflict you were faced with. All you have to do is act now. Act on that stress and dont let it act against you. I dont know the kind of job you have right now so it would be difficult if i just say something not applicable to your situation. You actually did answer your own question. Its a good idea. Why not try that one, it might work for you. =)

Thanks for responding to the discussion. I am not under stress and I am still student. I have not started this discussion to get ideas how to relieve my own stress. It seems that managing stress is one of the difficult issue for everyone, so i thought we don't we discuss here and share ideas on how to manage stress so it may help everybody who happens to go through the discussion. Anyway you have shared a good idea. We will have to act. Of course we must act, but not so instantly. Think, relax and act if you want to be successful.

yes that's a great idea. I will have to remember to try it as feeling overwhelmed isn't something that i'm new too. I like to have some time to myself or run a long hot bath. there is also natural vitamins and supplements you can have to aid with focus and retaining information also relieving stress! I think it's a great option for those who are struggling for the extra leg up.

Yea I agree with you. What do you think about getting some sleep. Sleep deprivation always skews our perspective, and makes small issues seem more overwhelming than they really are. Grab a 15-minute nap in your car if you have to. If you're having trouble sleeping at night, try a relaxing routine before bed (using any combination of these methods), or pay a visit to a sleep clinic. If you find yourself continually stressed on a regular basis, consider getting tested for a hormone imbalance (such as thyroid), or adrenal fatigue. These are treatable health conditions, and it's worth it to find out how to help your body better handle stress.

As I am a marine engineer,I know about the stress very well.We used to do work far away from family and did a lot of job.Sometime I got stress.I used to say myboss about these and then go for rest.Otherwise all of us sit together and had fun.We try to enjoy music or used to do cooking. All time we try to enjoy and try to stress free.

It is great that you are marine engineer and that you know how to manage stress. Yea taking rest and having fun by listening musics and all can really reduce stress. I think we must also eat well. Food has more to do with our moods than we think. When our blood sugar is low, we can get crabby and tense. we should never skip meals (especially breakfast) and choose foods with protein and complex carbohydrates. Taking a B-complex vitamins are also essential to a healthy central nervous system. Take one every morning, and whenever you find yourself getting irritable.

Most people divert their attention into something else for them not to think the word stress. Some people go on shopping as a stress reliever , some eat there favorite food some are watching movies and some go to the gym to have an exercise and freeing themeselves from stress. We have many ways in maganaging our stress but for me I used my family as a stress reliever specially my niece. When I heard there cute little voices over the phone I felt relieved and every stress just wiped away they were the stress wiper in my life.

You too have a nice and new idea. spending time with family would definitely help to reduce stress. What do you think about taking a bath. Spend little extra time to soak and let your muscles relax. Warm water is a natural soother.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, hope it will be helpful for everybody. Yea you are right. Exercises and Yoga would definitely reduce stress. I think rewarding ourselves when we accomplish things will also help to reduce stress. Acknowledge the work you put in and give yourself a pat on the back, instead of immediately rushing into the next task and creating more stress. you must also give yourself a vacations. If indulging in a long vacation seems even more stressful, trying taking several shot vacations per year.

One of the ways that I really reduce stress in my life is to read. I will run a tub full of hot water and I will take a book with me in the bathroom and read until the water starts to go cold. The reason that this reduces stress for me is that it takes away alot of the triggers that I face in my life. In addition to that, the hot water also helps to relax my tense muscles. This might not work for everyone, but it certainly works for me.

Take a step back first of all and take a deep breath. Try and figure out what is causing you the stress and why. I think that understanding what is going on is really something that can lead to us relieving a lot of our stress to say the very least. If we understand all of the things that are going to cause us any amount of stress, then we will be able to really manage stress. I think that taking things one step at a time. Think ahead, but don't worry about everything as a whole. Remember that the work will be done when it gets done and trying to force it to being done before its ready will lead to a lack of improvement. Of course pressures from others would cause this to be a rather trickier thing, more so than we would think. Take deep breaths, take a step back and return with a fresh head. Only focus on what needs to be done at the moment. Of course stress comes in many forms, therefore there will be different ways to reduce them.

Sounds like a good plan on reducing daily stress. I had my stress too, and the best way to reduce it, I would prefer to have a good nap, and leave everything behind. Because those stress just cloud my brain and my judgment, I should refresh from it, and start my brain workload all over again. That is my solution to it.

Wow! That seems to be great idea though we will have to have good balance in our phone. To manage stress, we must find our where the stress comes from and whey you are so stressed. Ask yourself questions; is it your workload, it it a problem with partner, are you getting frustrated of something? After you fine the source, you must try to resolve it. Remember sometimes it takes few days or few weeks to resolve. Try to get more organize at work, learn new skill, schedule time for different activity and don't stress our over something that you can not resolve overnight.

I would suggest you best idea to reduce the stress, that is change your work what you doing and start concentrating some other work. Stress is nothing but some time you fed up of long running works. This is our mind set that we had fed up ,we can not continue the work because i am tired and i have been working lot time. Remember we all humans uses there 2-4% of intelligence. In this way i can only say that our brain is super and use it.

Stress can kill and it is a silent killer. I don't know if you agree with what I have said. But for us to reduce stress or to be stress free we have to set a time frame on our work loads. Multi-tasking is not bad but it should be into proper dissemination of work. To prevent anxiety also we should at least relax for 5-15minutes during office hours. Or you can even unwind sometimes, watch funny movies to make you laugh to release stress.

Thanks for sharing your ideas. They are great ideas. Listening to soothing music and playing instrumental music can create a soothing environment. It can help you to relax and relieve tension. Calcium helps our muscles relax. When you are not getting enough, your body will start taking it from your muscels, causing them to cramp and tense up. So taking glass of warm milk before bed may help us.

At home reading a book or having a relaxing bath can reduce stress. Listening to music and dancing could reduce stress. I like to take my dogs for a walk by the coast or in the countryside. I think a weekend away or traveling overseas reduces stress and makes me happy.

I don't think that you were right when you said that some stress is actually necessary, because it's not.. when it comes to work I usually meditate for a while about what I have to do and how I would like to accomplish that. After that, I listen to some good music for about 5 minutes while blocking every thought that comes in my mind and keep concentrating on the music, then I come out of that and start doing what I have to do. It works for me :)

You do have a point that you write down everythinf you have to do when you are feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes, I also try this. I have many other methods to offer: 1. Listening to music. Music is good to make you relaxed. When I'm stressed I often listen to music. 2. If you like drawing pictures. It help me concerntrate on that and pay less attention to what make me unhappy. All in all, do what you like, forget and get rid of bad feelings.

The first thing I do when I am stressed out is try not to stress about being stressed.I think the best way to handle stress is to not get more stressed about or being stressed. If you're stressed out, admit it and figure out how to handle it.Focusing on it will only make things seem worse. When I am stressed out I prefer to go for a walk for a couple of minutes while listening to my favourite music and then walk back to home and take a power nap.

Sports are great way to managing stress . Actually stress is a result of poor adaptation to the outside stimuli. For better coping with stress we must find the stimuli that are causing it. We all have strategies for copeing stress but moste of them are unconscious. It is effective to make them conscious by analyzing them this will allow us to change our strategies in order to reduce stress

When I feel stressed and frustrated I exercise. I find this way very healthy. I prefer swimming as I have some movement limitation after my accident and the water allows me to do what ever I want. So I swim about 5 miles every time when I feel stressed. After that I feel great and relaxed.
