Nowadays, people around the globe are using cellphones even kids at a very young age they have ones already. What are cellular phones to you? Is it luxury or necessity?
For me it is already a necessity because we are already using this for our daily communication regardless of the unit or model. Even those people who are less fortunate are now using cellphones because it is our way to communicate specially when applying for a job. Cellphones are also helpful for those parents who always want to follow up their kids. Although there are some disadvantage also like having a phone is prone to robbery or snatchers, it is yeah! need to spend money for the load but at least it depends upon you being wise on using your load. You what is your stand?

I often wondered how emergencies were handled before cell phone was invented. I'm 40 years old & I've had a cell phone since I turned 18. Since I've always had a cell phone in my adult years, I don't know what it's like not to have one. I do have a phone line in the house but that's because at the time I got DSL line put in the house, I couldn't get it without phone line.

Personally I can see it as a bit of both in a way. For some it's a need, and others its a want. For me it's a need. Simply put weather you work or not, you need some form of outlet to the outside world. Sure the internet and television provide this, but still a phone is a must-have. It lets you talk to people and make calls and receive them and brings people closer together.
MY mobile is my life. Yes, I have social Media Apps on it. But, I'm not so adicited that I don't use my laptop too. I actually use both. But, that's not why it's my life. It's my life because its the only phone I have. I don't need nor want a land line. And, I don't need one. I can talk/text to anyone I want to. And that's all that matters in the end.

Hasn't this been resolved a decade ago already?
It's no longer cellphones that are necessary nowadays. Smart phones have become necessary more than ever because of the internet. Cellphones are no longer limited to sending sms, mms and phone calls. It's now used for checking mails, internet, social networking, etc.
So is cellphone necessary to me? I say no. It's no longer enough for me. I have smart phones to keep me updated with my daily activity and work and cellphones just don't work for me anymore.

I get it's a necessity because I really need it everyday. But, It will be a luxury if you are the kind that changes their cellphone's model every now and then. Me, I am okay with any model as long as I can use it for calling and sending messages.

Cellphones are now a necessity! But still, it also depends. I mean, you now see some high school students owning a cellphone, but their use for that is only to contact their parents and update them their current location, or to ask them to pick them up. But for college students, this might be of a little more technical use, such as arranging meetings with classmates, or updating events for organizations, etc. Of course these are more used as an important component in business by working people. Especially now that a lot of smartphones have been developed. I myself own a smartphone, and I must say it's been a lot of help with my studies alone as an MS student.

Cell phone is a necessity these days. You are right in saying that regardless of the unit or model, people have it because they use it to communicate with their friends, love ones, business partners and others. As long as you know how to use it in a proper way and not just to show of that could crate a stat quo, you are right in using one of the many units in town :-)

I do belive they are very necessary in lots of situations, especially emergencies, but I find people over-use them and - not sure about your country but it's definitely the case here in the UK - they seem to have deterioriated the quality of conversations people have with one another. Also, it can be very irritating when say on public transport or out for a meal when we maybe wish to be quiet and peaceful, being disturbed by people's mobile/cell phones constantly ringing and disturbing the peace.

I think it is a necessity now-a-days. A lot of people go out places and can not always be there to answer their home phone so they need a cellphone to communicate with people when they're out and about. It would be pretty hard not to have a cell phone these days because of the necessity of the things you listed above and more.

Hi there Jmay1226,
Cellphones, mobile phones, how others called it, indeed they are now part of the life evolution. As the technology becomes too modern, hence this gadget plays an important role in a person's life. Thus, it is a necessity after all. Generally, people do needs it in making everyday communication, well, except for the kids who are still young.
As the technology continues to grow, innovations really shoot up tremendously. And with this gizmo, we can never discredit the fact that is has a pros and cons (advantages and disadvantages). Since it is an invention that is prone to imperfection.

For me and the rest of my family and friends. I believe it is a necessity because everyone's life now a days are made easy because of the cellphone, just like any other technology, like the light, vehicles etc.. But of course, we should know how to prioritize, if we dont have a lot of money, or our income could barely make a family eat then maybe a phone is not a necessity. Put the basic needs first.

When we consider the use of mobile phone it is necessity in these days in all respects. Life become more closer and easier if we compare to our olden days. The only drawback is many people are misusing the facility for various unwanted uses and excessive use of added features become a hectic to many people. We should not use mobiles wherever it is blocked or resisted. Unwanted calls, untimely calls, higher voice talks and such many common nuisances should be avoided. If we use wisely, mobile phones are a must in these days. When it properly used we can say it serve the purpose.
Thank-s

I don't think there may actually come somebody and say the cellphones are a luxury nowadays. In this digital era where everything moves so fast you will be outrun by time and problems without a cellphone and I know it might sound weird, but you will be of no help to anyone.
Another argument is that some cellphone are very cheap nowadays so you can't talk about luxury.

Having a cellphone for me is a very important tool, why? because I just move to this country and when I don't know how to get to a place or where am I, I use the cellphone, my cellphone is smart cellphone and is true!, it has GPS so I never get loose, I can chat, read the news paper, check the prizes of the stores, go to weather channel, talk with four people at the same time, and of course answer to discussions in mylot. So nowadays the cellphone is a tool extremely important! Nice discussion, have a nice day jmay.

I consider cellphones as necessity. I use it everyday to communicate in everything that I do. It makes communication faster, cheap and easy. I could not even imagine myself without a cellphone because it has a huge impact on my daily routine, from work, business and family.

To my family, this is a necessity.
We need it to always communicate with our daughter studying in a far away city. My husband and i needs them for our respective works also. It is through the cellphones that instructions could be relayed right away, even if they are in a far official trip. As husband and wife, we need it to tell each other what's keeping us delayed in going home.

For me now a days cellphone is necessity because its the easiest way in communicating the person than a telephone. .Like for example if you want to go to your friends house you can text or call her if shes there than to go directly to their house and you find out that shes not there . .Its a waste of time. .And if you want to meet your friends you can follow up her. .And also in applying a job it is really important. .

Of course it`s a necessity for our common lives. Now it has been a basic communication tool for people`s common lives.Anyone could find where you are by using this tool when they want to contact you.We will find now whatever the form we want to fill out, there is always one position for us to write our communication style and always it`s the cell phone number. So it has become one part of our lives and we can`t deploy it.
