Should I get myself an Iguana?

I thought of getting myself an iguana, but I've heard they can be a difficult pet to have and sometimes very aggressive. Does anyone have an iguana that can inform me a bit on them so I can make a decision if I really want one? I had an bearded dragon a while ago and I just loved him, but sadly he passed away.

think many times before you buy an iguana , as they are more and more affectionate and same time other way around ,, it will be more agressive when they get distrubed, if u have a very big place to keep them then it will be good pet , if not horrible one , the cost of maintenance will be more ,, i have one and i am planing to give them off , regards Kumar Chennai

I've rescued a number of young iguanas over the last few years, only one of which I have kept and still have today. You need to remember that they require a large setup, which doesn't come cheap. UV, as with your beardie and a varied, healthy veg diet. They are a very large lizard and can become very aggressive, especially the males during breeding season. They have sharp claws, strong jaws and a whip of their tail can break a finger or seriously bruise an arm or a leg. If you're prepared for all of that and to keep them for life no matter what challenges they bring with their potential aggression (they're not all stir crazy), then get one at a very young age and let it grow with your experience. Alternatively, there are a lot of other vegetarian lizards that can fill a void in a home for a new pet such as Uromastyx for example. I know that this discussion is 7 months old, but perhaps this information might help a fellow mylotter at some stage if they're considering purchasing an Iguana.
