Thoughts about trash pickup day

Today us trash pickup day and we have a large blue trash can on wheels. I have to drag it quite a ways to the edge of the road. I am small and it took me forever because the can was so heavy! I started thinking about what in the world was making the trash so heavy! Then I started thinking about what things we threw out that could be recycled. I know at least half of what was in my can could be recycled.
My trash company does not offer recycling though. I remember when I was small and lived in the city their garbage company gave out recycling boxes. I wish mine did! I already save aluminum cans but I have barely enough space for those. Plus I only have a car so it is hard enough trying to take those to a recycling center. I kind of wish recycling was mandatory or more available to me.
Do you recycle? What things do you recycle? Does your trash service offer recycling and do they offer benefits for it? I hear some companies give you credits the more you recycle for gift cards.

we're lucky here in the uk, we have a black bin for general waste, a blue one for plastic, paper, and tins and cans, and a brown one for like compost and fruit and veg waste, etc.. and they all get collected at different times :)
we don't have anything for glass bottles though, but we have bottle banks in our super market car parks :)

What are bottle banks? Do you just drop off bottles in there? I wish they did the different colored bin here. The united states needs to get with the program!

I compost my leftover food too! Do those companies that come get your recyclables charge to come get it? I can't afford to pay anyone to come get it. I already have to pay a bit more than I'm used to for garbage pickup.
