Many people think that having sardines for meals is having a poor quality of meals. Sardines are cheap and most people can afford it especially the poor ones. But i don't understand why we have to underestimate sardines. Don't people know what can we get from eating sardines???? It is rich of important nutrients like omega-3 and vitamin B-12. We know what omega-3 can do to our health. It is good for the heart. It promotes healthy bones. Prevent memory loss. Strengthens the immune system and lowers the bad cholesterol.
So, why underestimate sardines?? There are lots of recipes in sardines. You just have to be creative in preparing a meal i sardines. For sure, family will love it.
Do you like sardines??

Hello jdex_143! Would you mind sharing some sardines recipes? I would love to try it this weekend. Last night, I had sardines with "odong" in it.. kind of a pasta. It was yummy and my nieces love it much.

Hello jdex, my sister in law usually cooked carbonara but instead of just adding luncheon meat alone she would also add some century tuna as part of the recipe. therefore, that's why we get the chance to at least have a meal on that when ever i come over to their house and eat some and bring one home

Hello Tess,
Even celebrities are eating sardines like Jericho Rosales, but probably because he was into fishing business or work before he got himself into showbiz.I love sardines, just remembered my sister in law used to cook sardines when she was still here in our house. she added egg scrambled and onionsand it went pretty good actually on Century tuna. or any other sardines for that matter. I like sardines but i believed it's bad when you eat them almost every day just eat it every other day

Right. Everything should be on moderation I guess. Who eats sardines everyday? wow, he/she must be a big lover of sardines. But i don't eat sardines everyday. I like sardines but it doesn't mean i eat it everyday. I like having a variety of food in every meal.^^

I've never eaten a sardine or anything that contained sardines. I've seen them in the store, but never bought any. I think it is because I've always heard people say they were gross. Even on TV, I've seen them used to gross people out. So I guess I just assume I would not like them.

Do people really judge each other by what they can afford to eat? That's sad.
I eat sardines a couple of times a week. I really enjoy them. people just think i'm weird. I'm in the US and i don't see people eating sardines very often, but I do. Because of all the health benefits you just described and I like them.
Thanks for bringing the benefits of sardines to people's attention, tess.

I never realised sardines were a fashion statement! haha
Whatever will they think of next to try to seperate man into classes.
Where I live they still farm oysters in the creeks and in the early 1900's the oyster was the cheap food for the masses and they were shipped to London by the millions. Today, oysters are considered a rich mans food!
Also, in the highlands of Scotland it is said that the workers on the estates pleaded with the laird not to feed them salmon too often. Again, now it is an expensive treat to eat wild Scottish salmon. Mmmmm!
I love sardines, though in the UK they are to be had in tins with a lovely oil and not fresh. But when in season, I have loved them fresh in Portugal.
If sardines are poor mans food then I am an untouchable!

I think this is a matter of money, because I don't think rich people would eat sardines and therefore there is this impression that sardines are only for poor and that sardines are a bad meal.
I have to say I'm neutral when it comes to sardine because I usually don't like eating anything that stood in a metal box for a while, but I bet those children from Africa would be happiest people on earth if they have a bunch of sardines every day.

I don't think a tin of sardine is cheap here. I would say that the price is just the same like a tine of condensed milk and I consider it as deer price.Sardines not for the poor. It is for everyone.I like sardines. A thick sardines adn have it as my sandwich is the best! I can have sardine with just the rice, fried egg, and soy sauce. It is soooo nice!!!(^^)

Yes, I do like sardines. It really is one of my easiest food to eat as you only have to open a can of it and then heat up the contents. Very ideal for bad cooks like me who is always in a hurry. I think eating sardines is but just fine provided that you don't eat it excessively and repeatedly. Variation is the key to nutrition and eating sardines everyday will not help. I am okay with sardines as I only eat it occasionally.

hi tess:)
we eat sardines sometimes too, and there are some recipe that make it delicious and nutritious, like sometimes my mom mixed it with eggs, or veggies. or the spanish sardines we eat that when we are in a hurry and no time to cook, it's delicious. so why people under estimate those who eat sardines? perhaps even rich people eat sardines for sure.
