For that amount, you'll have to do freelance work or affiliate marketing. Both of them take a little time to get started, though freelancing's quicker. Grab the little guide in my profile for starters, then go to the Big Four freelancing sites: Elance, Guru, oDesk and Freelancer.
You'll need to figure out what you can do to earn, then start bidding on jobs. It'll take a bit of research to figure out what's good and what isn't (my blog has several posts that should help and there's a LOT of info out there). Bid and hope you land something - the first job is always the hardest to get, since you'll have no reputation/feedback.
In the interim, you can always sell stuff you no longer need on eBay or pawn something for some ready cash. It depends how urgent it is.

Thanks for the info, I did check out the guide in your profile and I found alot of useful information. I have always wanted my own website and have looked into it, but my fear is the whole writing peice, because I am not a good writer. I mean it kind of hard to be able to write good quality content of a niche on a daily basis. I will go back and read your little guide again and will keep it handy for future use. Thank You.

Actually, I dislike affiliate stuff because I consider so much of it dishonest: nothing to do with the amount of work involved, which is normal for a decent return.
You're going to have to do a LOT of data entry to hit $500 a month, since it's basic minimum wage (or lower) work. Without wishing to sounds like a downer, I'm not sure you'll find enough for that earning level: it's severely oversubscribed and you'll be competing with people from countries with MUCH lower costs of living for scraps of pay. Most of this work is aimed at $2-$6 an hour. Just trying to be realistic, not mean or negative.
You may have to aim a level higher, at office admin, virtual assistant, transcription and suchlike, which requires a better understanding of language, a bit of organisation (you're a mum, you're good at that!) and a bit more responsibility. Or writing. Or something else like that.
Alternatively, working a lot of hours will bring in the money, though it'll be harder finding consistent, ongoing work at those quantities.

Yeah, its too bad that I have to compete with people from other countries, but then again, i should expect that, it is the inernet afterall. I would be happy makeing $6 per hour, its just finding something that will pay that. I have checked out a site called odesk and it seems like I may be able to find something there. They need transcribers, office asst, ect. I may just try the whole writing thing, I won't know if its for me until I try it. Right??

hey okay think about this for a second (and dont worry I already did the math) If you reply to 66 discussions a day you will have 500 dollars in 30 days....if you have quality answeres that match the discussion...and dont tell me its not possible cause it is on here :)
Also: 133 replys for 1000 buck in 30 days! I hope I helped!!

It's not possible on MyLot. Since our earnings are a share of what they earn, you'd make a decent amount but nowhere near $500. Those calculations are completely wrong.

Are you 100% sure on this, so all I have to do is reply to 66 discussions and that will put $5.00 in my mylot account? Is that what you are saying? I think I could manage that. I will have to go and look at the guidelines for payment, because I just started responding to discussions and I dont even know what the payment are.

What? Are you serious?I don't think this is possible. If you respond to 100 discussions with quality content(per day),then your daily earnings are estimated to be around $1.This way, your monthly earnings will be $30.This is what i found out.Better,do the math again and inform me.Take care friend.

There are many different ways to make money online. To make $500 monthly, that would need an online business, I would think. To do that, one would need to set up a business website, and would need to make some investment. So, one would then have to take some risk too.

Honestly, I would not mind making an investment, if I knew that it was legit and I was not going to be scammed. There is just to many get rich quick schemes out there, that just want your money.

If you are not already working and/or earning online, it will be difficult but I agree with the other responder who said but it is not impossible. Freelancing and writing will be a good income source once you are up and running. The challenge with the Freelancing sites will be actually winning the bids. If you are into writing and editing, you can also set up a profile on Fiverr. You will basically let the world know what you are willing to do for $5. I get lots of small editing jobs there, mostly resume and cover letter help. I have some ideas for you and I will add you as a friend so that we can discuss them further. I am a proponent of finding someone who will help you through a process and also get over a learning curve.

Beau's a great resource with tons of brilliant info and is friendly and honest. (And makes me laugh.)
If you're looking at writing, pop over to this discussion as well (loads of useful stuff on there and pointers to other discussions):

I am really very sorry to hear about your state. You can try Amazon mturk to earn some good amount of money by doing various types of works there, but you have to be a citizen of US or India to get paid via check otherwise you will only get amazon gift certificates. You can also try weegy, there you will get $.20 for each answer you give to a question and it pays via paypal. Hope this helps and wish you will get a good job online or offline.

As far a blogs go, it sounds like it is easy and its not, first you have to find soemthing that you are passioate about and write about it daily. For some people writing comes natural, but for some like myself, its hard. Besides makeing money that way can take too long. Whats the site you say that will allow me to own online store.

It is really a very sad news that you have lost your job but to make at least $500.00 monthly is in my opinion an absurd target to achieve.

It is impossible to make 500$ through website monthly basis. It is better for you search for any jobs in your location.

No, it's not. I earn that much (or more) every month freelancing for clients (via websites/online).
