Arsene Wenger could make a speedy 24-hour deal to beat Liverpool in the race for Birmingham City defender Scott Dann, according to The Metro. Wenger is acting in haste to land the 24-year- old, while Kenny Dalglish's transfer efforts are distracted by the signing of Newcastle defender Jose Enrique to fill his left- back gap at Anfield. Despite the Daily Star reporting today that Liverpool are still interested in signing the centre back, Dalglish could be set to miss out. Arsenal could bring in around £60 million from the reported sale of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, leaving Arsene Wenger with a bulging wallet and much to do in the transfer market. Dann is valued at around £8 million, and his wages are also said to be more than affordable, meaning that Wenger need not spend long in the negotiation room, especially as Arsenal's opener against Newcastle on Saturday is imminent. Dann has remained quiet and focused at the newly relegated West Midlands team, but the boyhood Liverpool fan did admit last week that he was “ambitious ” and eager “to play at the top level” . It remains to be seen whether the big man in the Birmingham back line will accept the swift offer or hold out for Liverpool, the team he supported after being born in Merseyside in 1987 when Kenny Dalglish was in the middle of his first stint as Reds manager.
