Police in the UK have started raiding homes of people suspected to have taken part in looting shops during riots of previous days. They have recovered designer clothes worth thousands of pounds. I guess it is payback time. Get it; payback

Oh where did I put that badge, kinda dusty but it still works. Dawns I'm coming to get your loot and return it to its rightful owner if they are still in business. Maybe the courts should make them pay the unemployment insurance premiums for a spell.

Humor is what Dawns do best. Seriously though, it does sound awfully scary right now, and I hope they get it under control. Hopefully without turning into some kind of a police state. Don't know what these people are thinking they are accomplishing other than putting OTHER people out of jobs by destroying their businesses, etc.

I hope that they get every last one of them and give them the toughest sentences. The unemployed have it better int he U.K.than in a lot of other countries. In my country people are just losing their jobs and there is no unemployment money. Our poverty level has risen 17% in this past year. They do not mean the country good especially as there will be the Olympics next year. get the yobos and make them pay big time. I do not know what has happened to my country. I look on the BBC news channel and it just seems such a different place to the U.K. where I grew up so many years ago. I am both angry and sad over this. Tens of millions pounds wasted. How does this help the U.K. to get out of the depression. Diddly squat!

I think they do not realise how good they have it here in UK compared to other countries. They are also lucky the police are a bit civilised.

More than a bit civilised. Just last month a son of mine was stopped by the police and asked to produce his papers. My son (who has never been in any kind of trouble) obviously took too long for the policeman as he then offered to 'shoot him out of the car'. I don't think that this would happen in the U.K. Naturally my son repoted this and they are 'investigating'.

I was hoping this would happen. These kids really need to be brought down. They should never be allowed to get away with this sort of thing. It is payback time. I hope they are made to build up the places they burned. These kids need to have better role models I think.

Have we not asked for this by tying the hands of the parents so that they could not discipline the child? If the child is taught respect for others as a child he will not stray from it.

The kids need to be taught that there are consequences for such actions. The parents hands are literally tied in many cases and the kids don't respect authority.

Kids need to have jobs and be responsable for their own things at a some what early age. Not 11 or 12 but by 16 and responsible at home too. And parents that are involved.

Well that's great to know, then. Here, piracy is everywhere and it can't be stopped. It had been going on for years now and the police can't seem to stop the spreading of pirated stuff.

The police do their best but they can't solve everything at the same time it seems.

Yeah, but considering piracy had been going on for a long time, they should focus more attention on it than anything else. I admit, I also buy pirated stuff but I can settle on downloading movies, music, etc.. myself and let piracy dissipate. Artists and other companies are being degraded because of this.

What The rioters have done they should be punished, They are lucky that they are not in Pakistan, I assure u they will be shot on sight, Just watch on youtube how asian police handle crowds.. they should be searched and should be Brought to justice... So it will never happen again..

It seems the police in UK are a bit soft on them are they in turn were not afraid of the police, they don't even respect them. I think in other countries where most of the police are armed, even in the US, many of them would have been shot.

Very disturbing development this riot was. Mischief at this intensity and this magintude is disquieting. I feel sorry for those whos live were disturbed. Its a shame society gives rise to these emotions and these souls. We badly need peaceful thoughts to spread.

The government needs to do some enlightenment so the youth realise this action is wrong.

No one should undermine the efficiency of the police force. It will not take long before they apprehend those law breakers and bring them to book. It may only be short lived joy for these looters and soon they will be caught by the long arms of the law.

Many of them thought they were playing a game and were just having fun. But now they would have to pay for all the 'fun'.

I am delighted that the police have been able to identify many of the looters in the United Kingdom. Then it is excellent that the police have been able to raid their homes. It must have been so strange to see designer clothing worth loads of money in a home in a council estate. Pay back time will help the shops that have been stolen from. There is a recession and every shop is trying to stay in business.

Yes they are really paying for what they have stolen. Probably there will be some more punishment. Someone said he was getting his taxes back by looting. But whatever their grievance it shouldn't be on innocent shop owners who are also struggling and paying taxes. I'm not sure how liberal the courts are over there but if they have any sense they will make these "punks" pay the full retail price for any items that has been found in their possession.

That would be the best sentence meted out to them. But we have to wait and see.

Yes, police should do that. Other than recovering those stolen goods, looters should be made to pay for those stuffs as well. That would be a way to punish those arrogant mindless people who doesn't even care. I've read on papers that government might consider to take back houses for those looters staying there. I agree with that, because that would let those selfish little people know, their actions has caused harm to their own family.

I agree that the looter should be punished and also be made to pay for the stuff they have stolen. But I think taking their houses may not be such a good idea because it may be punishing an entire family for the crimes of one member of the family.

Good. I am glad that the police are taking control of the situation. I am glad that they are raiding homes of suspected looters although I hope that civil rights are not stepped on during these difficult times. Sometimes during chaotic times, law enforcement makes bad mistakes.

I hope they will get them all. They deserved punishment. I have hard life to but I'm not looting, not burn houses and not attack other people. Talking and making excuses that economic situation force this people to do riots it just stupid. They should be punished. Yesterday my partner was in Croydon. This place look like war zone.

Some of them claim it is because of the economic situation but it seems most of them just went on rampage like they are playing a game and making life harder for other citizens.

What they did was an inexcusable act. It's not about kids doing something stupid, it's about people doing something criminal. There's a difference. A crimial offense deserves a criminal punishment and it's a good thing that the police are doing their part for this.

As the prime minister said, if you are old enough to commit the crime then you are old enough to face the punishment.
