I have a serious problem with spending money. I know a lot of people have this problem so I want to know if any of you have any advice for me as to how I can put my shopping sprees to rest. I have a family I need to take care of now and I can't be doing this anymore.

Persons with a family to take care of, should be responsible enough in their spending. They should be able to have a budget for every type of expenses that is needed by the family first , before succumbing into unwise spending on wants.
Perhaps , the best for you to do, is to have a budget for every penny that you earn. Identify needs from wants. See to it that every needs will be given priority before wants should be purchased. In addition, a budget should also be allotted for emergencies, such as when a family member gets sick.
make sure that you spend within your means only.

I have a shoppaholic friend too and she seems to enjoy what she's doing and never even tries to stop it She says it makes her happy and being happy is her right hehe!!
Anyway I am a bit shopping addict too but wouldn't call myself a shoppaholic. What i do is, as soon as I get my pocket money, I put about 30% of it in the bank and use the rest. It helps me save up a bit and hope this helps you too.

Can you get your pay paid into bank accounts, and more than one account?
If so, you could ask to have a certain amount paid directly into an account for savings and get a savings account that it is a little bit harder to withdraw money from. Alternatively can you give your pay directly to your husband or someone else so they can bank the saving amount and hand out the spending amount to you?

I read in the first response that you actually have a budget, it's just the money that is supposed to go on savings that gets spent on shopping sprees. Then maybe you should include the savings in the budget. Try paying yourself first, by automatically putting money in savings before you spend anything else.
Then if there is still money left over, you wouldn't feel too guilty if you spent it.

Only you can help yourself. You said it already, you have a family so put that in mind and make them as your priority. When you feel that impulse of buying something that is not really important think of your family and the needs that they have instead of spending it to something you want. Money nowadays is not easy so be careful and start saving. There should be an emergency savings account and a budget for the family and just try to spend for your luxury once in awhile.Good luck.I know it's easier said than done but if you motivate yourself and really think that your family is the most important subjects in your life then you can set aside your shopping and just focus on enriching your family and providing them with their needs.
