The Hardships of Finding a Homebased Job

I didn't quite realize how difficult it would be to find a home based job. I joined an website where you get signed up to do different home based jobs. From data-entry, blog writing, forum posting, voice-overs, web design... You get the idea. It's so hard to get hired! No matter how many exams you take, no matter how many readiness tests, you still have to fulfill certain qualifications. Such as having fulfilled a certain number of hours. To begin with, most of the start up jobs either have too many applicants that I doubt the employers are checking anymore, or they require ungodly number of articles, or are just plain spam job postings. Right after I applied to about 10 jobs, I got my first job interview and was hired in under 5 minutes. I started work right then and there, and about 2 hours into my new job, I received an email stating the job had been cancelled due to non-compliance with the terms and conditions! The next job posting I got interviewed for was a faux job posting, and it was actually the same guy that hired me the day before! I automatically flagged his job posting as inappropriate. What do I need to do to get these jobs? Right now, I'm beginning not to care how tedious it might be or how low it pays. I just want to earn those hours so I could apply for the other actual jobs! Any suggestions?

Depends where you're applying. It sounds like a bidding site. If so, you just need to learn how to spot the bad ones, where to bid, to bid well and to hope. There's no secret formula. There are a couple of posts on my blog about the bidding sites, with tips, the most recent of which is still on the homepage, I think. I've seen both sides of the recruiting process on these sites and you'd be surprised just how few people actually read the job posting and give responses in their bids. That's the #1 thing to do.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I do write up my responses as personally as I can. I started with these really professional responses such as "I believe I may be able to help you with that.." And go on stating what applications I've used before to ensure that I can do the job, to "Sign me up! That is exactly my cup of tea blah blah blah". I see the job posting, and if it looks pretty informal, then I also have a pretty informal response. Thanks for your response!

Guess what! I got a job interview! :-) I realized that I couldn't respond to my own discussion, and I didn't want to start another discussion, so I thought I'd post it as a comment here. Anyway, hope this is it! I could really use those hours! And it's for something I really want to do! It has to do with fashion, make up and hairstyles. :-) Pays really cheap, but it's a start! Wish me luck!

Yeah, I had to do that, too. Accept sucky pay for ONE job just to get the feedback. Make sure you overdeliver and keep applying for better-paid ones. Don't get trapped in a low-pay job once you have feedback. Congrats!

It's really hard to find online jobs! when I was out of school, all I did was look for online jobs but I didn't find anything that pays a lot. If you find a legitimate one, it only pays a little, but that's just how things work, because if they offer you high salaries, then that must be too good to be true, a scam. Even bloggers who blog for a living have worked very very hard to earn more than enough money.

I have the same problem as you! I have been looking more for a home based job lately, and it's so hard to find one that is legit and with at least decent pay. It can really get frustrating! I have only applied for a few so far, as I've started out mainly applying for the ones that really interest me, but I guess I will have to just start applying for as many as possible, just so that I can get at least something. Sorry to hear about the scam you experienced! Hopefully you'll be able to save some other people from experiencing the same thing, since you flagged the guy. I guess I can't give too much advice, since I am also having trouble finding a good home based job, but what I keep hearing from others is to just be really persistent, and eventually it will pay off and you'll finally get a good and legit offer. The good jobs are out there somewhere - it just seems like it can take forever to find one! Good luck on the rest of your search!!

I know. The job posting called for someone to upload pictures into his website, about 100 pictures would have to be uploaded per day. I thought it was perfect because it's one of those create-your-own-flash-website pages. All you have to do is log into the website and upload pictures. No layouting needed. So I applied for this job stating I am maintaining a website on the same site (sounds redundant? :-)) and I have reliable internet, whatever.. And this guy replies back with the exact same email I received for that data entry job that violated the terms and conditions. But I think I hit some luck. I'm being interviewed for one of the jobs that I applied for, something to do about make up, fashion, and hairstyles. It pays really cheap, but I could definitely use the hours. It's a pretty easy job, and requires about 2 hours a day. I hope you find yours too. Good luck!

It is hard to find a work at home job that you can actually make good money at because it takes a lot of time and effort to do a good job at it.

Yes, that's true. And it's harder for me because I have a day job, but I still want to be able to earn a little more, and my availability is so limited. I can only offer about 20 hours a week max, on a job. It's really taxing what they ask for within that 20 hours.

Home based jobs are like offline or conventional jobs. Getting them is like finding a jewel in an endless tunnel. It's hard to find the genuine kind of jobs becuase the internet is full of unknown or anonymous 'employers'. It's easy to assume that a company will hire someone without actually meeting them. Though they are legitimate jobs and employers out there, they are the rare kind and most of the home-based job-seekers cram themselves to be accepted (sometimes for any position). Though home based jobs have its own side of benefits and perks, it's hardly considered as the perfect job. There are downsides to this type of job if you compare it to the more traditional jobs. Not to mention, the endless chatter about home-based job as being not really a job. It is hard to say but there are real clients out there that will to do outsourcing. Don't give up and you can find the next-to-perfect home-based job.

Thanks. That's so true, finding these kinds of jobs are hard. I have friends though who've been employed doing virtual assistant jobs, and they're on their fourth month. They're in between traditional jobs right now, so that's what they're doing which is pretty lucky. But I guess I'm not really being choosy anymore. I do have a day job, but I'm hoping to find something that I can do while I'm up using the internet as well. I mean aside from myLotting. Thanks for the insight!

You are correct. Most of online jobs like adposting, data entry are spammed one. They would not like to pay anything. It is better for you search for knowledge sharing websites at the same time you can earn from those sites.
