Hello, Vegegirl. I leave it at least a week. If I have a lot of really good responses, I'll leave it for longer. If I don't get many responses to a discussion, I'll leave it for a few weeks. I can't see the point of awarding a BR if there are only 2 or 3 responses, unless one is really good.

Always, although I only use the - for violation of the guidelines, or if a responder is abusive. Using these buttons helps to build the MyLot reputation for those who post good discussions and comments, so I make sure to use it.
Some people 'game' the system by negging people who disagree with them. I never do that - it's a discussion site, after all, so we're entitled to differences of opinion, as long as we express them in a constructive manner.

I try always to rate, though occasionally I forget. I only rate what I think are responses with information or details. I will also rate + for people who disagree with me if they have stated their case well. I have never yet given a minus, even if I can't understand the response because of the language difference with someone who is struggling with English expression. I will give a + to anyone who is obviously making an effort to communicate clearly and provide details or information. I hope others will rate my comments the same way. Rating makes the site better for everyone.

That sounds a good way, as long as you use the recommended 1 week before deciding. Sometimes it can be hard to chose though as there can often be more than one person offering lots of information. Sometimes, if a few people give me the same good respons, I may give the best response to the first person to give me the good response.

Yes, that would be a good way too. If many people are giving similar useful information, then the first person who mentioned it should be granted with the best response. First come, first served
