This was one of the clearest descriptions I could find:
"Winds are caused by differences in air pressure between areas. The air pressure varies in different areas because of variations in temperature. Warmer air expands as its molecules spread far apart so it tends to weigh less and its pressure is lower. The molecules in cold air, however, press more tightly together which makes the air weigh more and thus exerts a higher pressure. The molecules in air generally flow from areas of higher pressure to areas of lower pressure. This flow of air is what we call wind." http://www.pa.msu.edu/sciencet/ask_st/111297.html

I am not sure why the wind blows, but my theory is that when warm and cold air interacting with one another it starts up a movement of circulations. Because I think it is possible for the oxygen molecules move in different speeds in warm air and cold air. The scenario make the wind blow. It's only my theories.

hey basically the earth's weather is caused by the sun heating, the atmosphere, oceans, and earth's surface. The hot air rises and the cool air sinks and all this activity gets air moving across the globe.the sun also evaporates water in lakes, rivers, and seas to make clouds and rain .
