I'm into online money making just recently, maybe a couple of months, so I would like to share some of the sites and types of work that I've found.
I also want to learn more so please share you own money making stories and tips.
Classifiying the type of work you want to do.
1. Writing is a common money making opportunity online. Most only pay $1-$5 for original articles. Some can ask you to do 150-500 words. It often gets tricky because they want you to write with a particular keyword in mind. Personally, I found this a bit hard to do especially if the topics are obscure.
But if you want to give this a try, try sites like Odesk, and Freelancer sites (forgot the exact title). It's not exclusive for writing only though, many employers are looking for other types of workers too like website making and other software/app creation.
2. You can also try writing for ehow.com, yahoocontent. These sites you have to be a US citizen though. (found out too late about this one before I joined)
Helium and triond accepts writers throughout the globe though. Helium even has challenges that are sort of like tasks here that you can do to earn money. However, writing is involved.
3. Data-entry jobs sounds easy to do, but it's really hard to find a legitimate paying one. DONT pay for sites that tells you that they can give you tons of jobs even WITHOUT experience.
4. Create your own website and put in Adsense. I tried doing this too but I am not too knowledgable about making a site and linking adsense to it.
5. Transcription work
I earned my first online payment doing transcription work. I looked up the jobs at forumcash.com, followed the instructions and applied. PAYPAL is needed though.
I also joined SCRIBIE which I like a lot although files are at a first come first serve basis. You get referral and affiliate commission. Message me if you want to try this out so I can get referral bonus xD.
6. Mturk
The pay is a bit the same as mylot and it's kind of fun doing random tasks. Though you can only get payment through amazon gift certificate if you're not from the US
What else did I miss? That's all I can think of right now

At odesk there is a category titled Data Entry. However, since getting picked to do a job on those sites is difficult too but you can give it a try.
At forumcash they currently have a form filler project, I read the post though and it's not the usual simple data entry job that we would expect. The job description includes creating an account on each website given to you, then the account is tailored to fit the client's specifications, then you have to send in a report of created sites.
Aside from those, I also have a hard time looking for this particular work

Some of the online earning sites sound interesting enough, i bet they come in handy for some who want to make extra $$ while online. I may want to check out few of those sites in your recommendation list. I want to add in microworker in your list of online money making experience, it is a legit site for me, thought may be you can use that as well.

Thanks for sharing your experiences on making money online. I also tried some of the websites you've mentioned like odesk and freelancer and still taking some test and updating my resume in order to make it presentable to the employers. Though the competition among workers on these two sites, its up to the worker on how he/she markets his/her portfolio to be chosen by the employers. You can also try the microworkers.com where you can do random simple tasks during your free time. :)

Thanks. I know what you mean about odesk. It would be nice to have some IT experience though in developing applications. Good luck with that.
I signed up for microworkers but most of the tasks there involve signing up and giving out your email address. Tasks are also limited too so I just occasionally check that one. Mylot here is more consistent in paying xD
