One penny is a penny more than you would have had.

These days if we can find some way to save any amount of money, even if it is one penny, it is just a logical step to take it. People tend to think of not being able to save a lot of money as a failure, which I disagree with. Its the little amounts here and there that are saved that count big time. If you save a penny, if you find a penny, then that was a penny more than you one have had previously. One cent doesn't get all that far these days(or really anywhere at all), but we all have to start somewhere. There is no difference too small or too minor for frugal living.

I actually so pick up coins and save them in an old jar. A few years back when we were ready to take our summer vacation I got that jar out and emptied it. I had a bit over 25 dollars in the jar!!! That went towards the first tank of gas for the trip!!

See that is an example of how things like that add up. You keep collecting those coins, a little bit at a time. Put them in a jar and really just allow them to keep going bit by bit. Until you have enough to get what you want. It is really amazing about how these things are going to add up, on a rather quick basis. It is rather amazing and there have been times where a few months of saving leads to me being to amass a decent chunk of change. In the end, its not what you make, its what you save. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Time and some great amount of patience. The patience part is the one thing that many people struggle with, I think. There are a lot of people who really tend to expect instant results and its a rather not the right way. Slow and steady can lead to some good savings. What little money that you do in fact save, it will be a huge comfort for sure. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I agree with you. Whenever I'm out walking and I see a coin on the floor I always pick it up because hey, it's free money and it's a few cents more than what I had a minute ago. I take the savings where I can get it. After all, any savings or extra money here and there all adds up.

Money is money and when you are a bit short at the end of the month, anything is really something that is going to help to say the very least. There are going to be a lot of times where all of the savings is going to slowly add up and if you need it, it will be a benefit. Its going to be slightly more than you would have had, so that's got to be a plus. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

That is pretty good. I've found bills on the ground as well. Mostly coins but there have been a couple of dollar bills. I think that a ten is about the most that I have found. I guess a lot of people would tend to be rather careless for any number of reasons. Of course, I bet they would not really miss the money that is gone, when they drop it on the ground. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Haha That's pretty funny and a smart way to get some extra money. Even though it's not much, it's always exciting to find money on the ground. I can't remember where I was but I was somewhere and I kept finding all these bills on the ground and they were like 5 and 10 dollar bills. It was the most exciting day of my life.

Yup. I completely agree with you. Even a mere 1 cent/penny if saved each day could end up being a lot of money in the long run. But I guess more people these days would just like to see the bigger notes and coins.
It is hard enough to earn money so it would be a waste to throw any of it away, even if it's just a small penny.

Yup. Some people put their pennies and small coins in the little donation boxes at the cashier though. I suppose that was a good idea. If you feel that the penny is useless, at least you can donate it to someone who will appreciate it more.
Hope you have a nice day too!

That's unfortunately rather true. A lot of people think of money only being valuable if its in terms of it being the bigger bills. However there will come times where money is going to be rather difficult to come along. Therefore, we got to really save what we can, so we can live a rather comfortable life. Throwing any money to the side is a huge waste. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I agree. I put all my change in a piggy bank and by the end of the year that piggy bank money pays for a good portion of our vacations. We wouldn't be able to go on vacation some years if it wasn't for my piggy bank savings, so small amounts when put all together certainly can add up to a nice amount of money. Just take time to save it and it will add up over time.

Time is something that will build most fortunes for sure. We can add up a pretty respectable amount of money in a matter of months or a year, as we keep scrapping together those pennies. Whether you put it in piggy bank or a jar or a Tupper Ware dish or anything, it does add up a little bit at a time. There are going to be many times where we look after some time and even we can be shocked how much that can add up but its rather true. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

hi megamatt.
definitely agree with you on this one. usually, i try to find ways to save. regardless if i save a penny, a dollar, or ten dollars, it is still money saved that i can use for other needs. too often, we think of big time savings like waiting for a windfall of money to start saving. not realizing the importance of compound interest in saving. what little that you save today will grow big after time. it doesn't matter if you save 10%, 20%, or 50% of your total income, what's important is that you start saving now. always, been a great believer that more than the amount that you save, one equally important aspect is the time that you leave the money for it to grow interest.
i'm all for frugal living. i do this for myself but more importantly for my daughter.

that's exactly what i meant matt. if you keep spending, you'll end up broke in life sooner. that's why it is important to save, even a small amount will do. also equally, important is to teach others the importance of saving. i'm making sure that i inculcate this important habit to my daughter and teaching her the importance of saving every chance i get.

Very well said to say the very least. It doesn't matter what you save, as long as you save something. Because every little bit that you are going to be saving, it is really going to really flow higher and higher to a certain point. Not to mention interest as you brought up. You're really just throwing the money down if you just keep spend, spend, spending, you won't get anything. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I completely agree with you. I am a little surprised, however, at the number of people that responded to this that have said that they also agree. In fact, I have not read any response that did not agree with you. However, I know for a fact that there are people that do not agree, because I see them purposely dropping coins on the ground, especially pennies, when they receive them as change. I don't mind, because I will pick them up and keep them. I have noticed, though, that in the current economy there are not as many people doing this as there were before.

Indeed this wouldn't be a topic if I knew everyone agreed. Because there are many people who turn up their nose at the slightest amount of change. Thinking that it is not worth their time. Granted there is a few people who have decided to wake up and smell the roses, but really, when you think about it, old habits are something that take a while to die hard. Considering there are many people who find it rather difficult to let go of luxuries that they cannot afford any more. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I agree with you and many of the responders that every penny counts when one is wanting to save money. The old adage,"Pennies add up to dollars' is really true. Granted, it may take some time, but what harm is there in putting that penny in a container and adding to it with other found pennies until you have a dollar! Ha! Now, that being said, my grandmother had a belief that if a penny was heads up it was good luck to pick it up, but if it was tails up it was bad luck and you should just walk on and not pick it up!!! I don't subscribe to that belief and I pick up all coins that I see on the ground. Frugal living really changes one's outlook!!

There is indeed no harm whatsoever. Sure it might seen like one penny but strictly speaking, most fortunes have in fact started with one single penny. You have got to look at a rather bigger picture. Every coin no matter how it falls, no matter how much is worth, is a smaller part to a bigger savings. Therefore we keep saving them, pennies turn into dollars and then the dollars grow from there. It is a steady growth. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Not turning on the light, that is really something that is a sticking point. It really isn't that hard to do. Yet it does seem like its nearly torture for a lot of people. It is really something that just shakes my head. There are ways to shave a little bit here and there and turning off the lights after leaving the room, that does seem one of of the easiest ways. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I totally agree with you. I save up most of my coins here too. My 5 and 10 peso coins are usually put in a box. There was one time when I got nothing to spend. I dug on my coins and voila I got something to buy for food and groceries. Sometimes we neglect these pennies but where can we get the big bills if not from these small pennies right?

You hit the nail right on the head. The big bills can be grown from smaller amounts of money. That really does plant an extremely useful seed to really allow us to each a pretty decent amount of money. Seeds that can go right into some fairly decent amounts of money. At first it might seem small but over time, little by little, everything adds up. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Yes,you are right,I agree with you totally, one penny is simply one penny, but you save one penny for 100 times, you make a dollar.any great wealth started from small ones, little streams make a big river,so I think saving the money as possible as you can is just a good habit,we'd better spend our money with good reason, and make it worthwhile, especially in recent times, the whole world is suffering the economic crisis,so I think this also will help us to live though this very special time.

It does all add up. Everyone is really feeling the heat, some in larger ways in others. So every little bit that we can add to our savings, that is a relief. The unexpected and the unfortunate can really happen at any moment whatsoever, so we really do need to be ready. So we are really saving all of the money that we can, that will be a slight comfort when an unfortunate situation occurs. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Indeed they can be rather precious. That is rather true. There have been many times where I needed something but I was off by as little as one small penny. Therefore there comes a time where that one penny can make one difference. A difference that allows us to really be able to pay something or not. One penny can make a difference in an emergency when we are short as well. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I definitely agree with you - one of the things I've been trying not to spend so much on is chocolate bars. A lot of the time, if I'm at the shop anyways, I think "Oh it's only 50p" and buy it...but it adds up. Using the change lying around, I buy smaller chocolate bars, like Freddo's or the thin Dairy Milks at 15-20p which leaves me at least 30p better off than I would have been, and over a month that's nearly a tenner! Every little thing does make a difference, and if you feel like you're making an effort with one thing (ie not buying chocolate) you're tempted to make an effort all around "Well, I've been so good this month, if I buy that it'll undo everything".

Indeed that is very true to say the least. We see this one little thing that is beyond what we need and we think oh that's not that much. However when we buy one little thing, it leads to another little thing and it really does go down to a lot of things. It can really be a slippery slope. Its not to say that we can't have a treat but we have to be careful. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Absolutely. I pick up all the coins I find as well as aluminum cans to recycle. They both add up faster than one would think. It's true that a penny is hardly worth anything, but do it a hundred times and you'll have a dollar.
Also, doing things to save a penny adds up, too. Shopping carefully, controlling use of utilities and comparing services as well as merchandise can really add up.

Very true indeed. Any number of little things that we can do to really shave off a few pennies here and there, they can all add up. It might not seem like much one time. However keep doing it over and over again and it really can make a pretty decent difference to say the very least. It might be a steady increase, but a steady increase is really better than none. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I don't disagree. At times when you manage to save money, no mater how small the amount, it can feel like you're not doing good enough. But, all those savings add up over the long-term. Sure when you see you've saved some money... it may go to somethine else and feel like you really haven't saved. But, the reality is in the end when it all comes out in the wash, you will actually have more money then you would have had if you hadn't found a way to save. Which in the end is all that matters anyway.

I think at first it can really feel like not enough. However in the long term, it does feel slightly more as time really goes on. In the end, saving anything really is going to come in hand. A lot of people don't really feel the need to save and they are the one's that pay the hardest. Perhaps they think that they won't save much but it does add up for sure. Thanks for responding. Very true, it is something that can escalate. It all has to start somewhere. After all, many great fortunes, started with one small penny in some form and fashion. I collect pennies and it does add up over time, I also do a lot to earn extra money online and it's surprising how much you can earn online if you consistently try to earn money. I'm going to get a lot of money next month because all my earnings are finally reaching payout. It's great feeling, knowing I'm earning money online even though it all seems small it adds up over time.

This is true. Any great wealth started with the accumulation of small ones. Those little savings will eventually grow as long as you save it with discipline. Of course, you don't just save it but grow it by investing once you accumulated enough of those pennies. Some really don't noticed that those small, frequent pennies not saved are should have been a big investment in the future. I do have the habit of saving coins before. Any small change I get from riding public transport goes to my piggy bank. I used to do this and it was rewarding when you have accumulated a big amount from them.

Indeed everyone has to start somewhere. And starting small does tend to be the most logical place. The pennies are really moving up there. All change should be appreciated as something that can really add up that are really going to be a big thing that is going to really be a plus later on. Once cent turns to five and the fifteen cents and so forth. I pick up all the change I find and put it into a bottle and sum it up at the end of the month if I need spare change. I usualy do. I mean it is amazing how much people just let fall out of their pockets and you KNOW they know it fell and they just did not care. I save 51.25 last month doing this and saving change from all store jaunts. Helped pay a bill!

That really is the thing with a lot of people. They just let change fall everywhere. They don't care. Its just a few pennies here and a few pennies here. However a few pennies here, a few pennies there, and that pretty soon turns into something that resembles a lot of real money. People just let it drop. Getting into their car, walking out of the grocery store. Sometimes they see it and shrug, before getting on with their life. Still that money does slightly add up over time. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.
