Help!!!!! Strange thing is happening on my sons computer.

OK here is the deal. Whenever my son has a program or browser i.e. word or explorer open he minimizes the program and it will go into the task bar but when he maximizes the program or browser it does not show up on the screen but does some how maximize it. Let me explain..... after maximizing it the only option left is to minimize it again so therefore it has to be maximized. Plus when you click minimize you can see it pop out of the left of the screen and then minimize to the task bar again. Its like its going off the screen when he maximizes the program or browser.
