Yesterday i had went to a few shopping malls but unable to decide what type of gift suitable to them. I had mentioned in my earlier discussion that i am going for my aunt and uncle wedding anniversary. You can refer to here for further information... http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2564069.aspx The type of gift which i am interested to find for them must be not too fancy. Kind of natural looking and suit for couple who had been married for nearly 40 years. Both of them are in their 60's. So, i think those who ever attend to those couple who are celebrating their 40 years of wedding anniversary should have an idea of what type of gift is suitable for them. Hope can get some nice ideas from here, so i can get the gift soon. Thanks in advance...

The color for the 40th anniversary is ruby red. So atleast use ruby red in balloons, centerpieces, gift wrapping, ribbons, etc. Ruby being the customary stone of this anniversary. Then you would need to choose whether you wanted to go with a traditional or modern gift. For women there are nice ruby jewelry and for men cufflinks and such. Here is a link to a page with some great ideas on it: http://www.findgift.com/Occasions/Anniversary/40th-Anniversary/

Thanks, Celtice...Wow, i never know that there is a color being attached with each anniversary. Can you elaborate more about it? Like, each anniversary is attach with what color? It really sounds very interesting. Until now, i haven't make my decision on what type of gift i am going to give to them...Still thinking and searching...

Hi myfb! Maybe you can start thinking of the things that they need. From there, you can think of a good wedding gift. A stuff in the house they might need perhaps. Or something personal that might symbolize their love for each other. What is their interests or hobbies? Maybe you can get an idea from there. Or maybe something funny just to make a change like a pair of tee with funny prints. I'm also going to a wedding this December and as early as now, I'm thinking of a nice gift for the couple. It's really hard to think of a wedding gift because I don't usually get invited to one. ^^

Yes, same like you, i seldom join in any wedding ceremony. Especially, going for a wedding anniversary party. Until now, i still haven't make up my mind what to buy yet. Still go searching around for it...I might try to get some ideas from their hobbies as well...I want to give something difference from their children...

How about a nice hotel for a night plus a dinner? I think it will remind your aunt and uncle their honeymoon sweet time:) Sometimes the mental gift is much more meaningful than the material present. I love China

Wow, that's great gift, Youless. Yes, i must consider it. But, i need to check with their children first. Because their children always bought that kind of gift for their parents almost every year.

Throw them a bachelor/bachelorette party. That sounds fun. I'm sure they'll be having the time of their lives with it. Make it the post-party after the main ceremony.

I think it fun for us, the younger age generation. But, i have doubt whether they can accept it or not, since both of them are in their 60's and quite a shy couple...

Hi friend! I asked my parents about what gift they wanted on their 40yrs wedding anniversary and they said they wanted a vacation trip anywhere, haha! I guess that's the best gift you can give. If it's expensive to you,you can also book them for a "2 days 3 nights" in one of your nice hotels there for their honeymoon, sounds so romantic, right? Hope this helps!

Thanks for willing to take the trouble for asking help from your parents. Hope i don't trouble you with much problem. I think your idea is quite good, since they rarely go traveling. Maybe it can helps them de-stress themselves and giving them chance to feel romantic as well.

No problem my friend! I just thought it might really be nice if I ask someone who is just the same as the age of your celebrants on their wedding anniversary 'cause I know we don't feel the same taste as they have since they are older than us and I'm really surprised of what they've told me,haha! I guess it's the perfect time for them to travel and have a vacation to relax and worry free.

Being of an age, I would really like it if s younger relative found a photo of us in our youth, had it printed on to canvas and framed it for us to hang in the living room. Good Luck!

That's a nice and original idea, as long as the photo looks not too different from the present day! There's nothing worse than a before and after that no one can recognise as you, the "Oh who is that then?" and "Don't you look different!" comments could become depressing!

Yes, that's one of the great ideas. It can make an unexpected gift for both of them. If i am really want to give this kind of gift, i will need to go and search for their olden days photos of both of them standing or sitting together...Thanks for sharing, Janixx. Yes, Rose. We should choose picture that don't look different a lot from their present face. Otherwise, it create a lot of questioning, right...

I always try to get people something they would enjoy but would not buy for themselves. For instance, if they like to take walks together I might buy them pairs of cute matching socks. If they like to spend evenings reading by the fire I would buy them a beautiful clock for their mantle, if they have one. Anything related to something they like to do together but would not think to get for themselves. Do you have gift certificates there? Buy them a gift card for a restaurant they like but don't often go to. or matching lounging apparel.

That's a very nice ideas from you. I might consider your tips, too. It seems suit to them, since they are rarely going to fancy places. Because they are very shy type of people, so always prefer to save money, rather then spending their money. They will only spend their money on things that they really needs for the well-being of their daily life.

Hi Myfb, why not take out some of the old photographs, scan it into your computer, and then make into a photo book? It will be a very special gift. I think if you manage to find a printer to print it out in book form, that will be even better. You can print a few copies for all the relatives. This kind of print is known as print on demand. I know that lulu is one of the famous publisher online. I am sure you can find something similar in your country.

Wow, i never thought of giving this kind of special gift. It is wonderful and yet simple to do. I think i will need to check out my old photo albums to see if i have enough old photos to make a nice photo book for them and others.

Can you get them some nice crockery - cups and saucers or maybe some nice glasses or a nice jug. Something that could look nice on a shelf but also that they could use? A versatile pretty jug would be good - decoration, or to put flowers in or for drinking water out of? Something that could be decoration or be practical. Or even a practical gift and a decoration gift. You could find something really nice without being overly expensive if you hunt a little bit maybe.
