How do you prepare for a report? Most of the students out there have fear in public speaking. When they are faced to a crowd, you can really see them shaking. Fellow mylotters, what do you do to minimize the nervousness you feel?

I too get nervous when I have to present. You should know your report inside out and make sure that your report is easy for everyone to understand. If you can't avoid any complicated things be prepared to explain them if you get asked. When I present, I try to focus either on the screen or a friend in the audience. Occasionally, I shift my gaze to the rest of the audience so that they don't feel as if I'm only presenting to one person. If you don't know anyone in the crowd or you think you would be more nervous if you look at someone, then just focus on a spot somewhere in the middle of the audience. But don't forget to look at the rest of the audience once in a while. Good luck with your report presentation!

Thank you. I think I already understood my report (I wish.LOL). One more thing that scares me is the fact that our teacher often interrupts us while we are discussing. She would give her comments and add some information while we are having our report. That's really distracting. Aside from my friends, I will also try to look at my teacher. Sometimes that is more helpful than looking at the other audience who just can't simply hide their boredom.

Yeah. Looking at people who seem bored with your presentation can sometimes be demotivating. I suppose scaring yourself by looking at your teacher may keep you alert.

During the first part of my report, our teacher seemed so interested. She even nods. So, I'll just look at her for the next part of my report.

When I was in college, probably my whole school days, I had the fear of speaking in public. I dont shake but I stutter, a lot. It was very embarrassing. But I guess if a person has fear in public speaking, you cant do anything about it. No matter how you prepare, you would always end up failing, well, that's according to my experience. I guess all you have to do is really study your report and just know everything you can about your topic, so that if questions come, now matter what happens you would be able to answer them. Its better to have a good answer but stutter during the report, than completely perfected the speaking part of report yet not able to answer very well.

So how did you do when you started?.. Did you shake?.. I hope you'll do well. I guess the best thing you can do is understand your report, so that you dont have to read it everyday. and you can just read it again a day before your report.

Yeah I'll just read my report over and over again. I've been practicing my lines since, uhm, last week? I started my report when it was almost our dismissal time. So, I wasn't able to finish my report. I've been waiting for 1 week now (for the reporting to resume).

During the first few minutes, my hand was shaking. Then, when the bell rang, do did my voice.. I just wish it would be over soon.

Oh, good for you! You won't have to worry about public speaking and reporting. It would've been nice if I am like you, so, I'll be able to communicate or relay my message to the audience better.

Yes, it feels very nervous when you face the crowd or demonstration for the first time. I also felt it when i just started my first demonstration or public speaking. To minimize the nervousness First you have to know your work thoroughly. Secondly your life experience also matters, usually introvert persons feel more nervous during public speaking. Thirdly it also matters how you feel about yourself respect to the crowd you are presenting to(it may be a specific case). Heeling can be provided by talking to your close friend, your teacher or some when who can help you and also a part of the crowd. make good practice in front of the mirror and in front of your friends or some one close to you. If you are nervous during demonstration in crowd don't make eye contact with the people in the crowd and concentrate more on your part of work. Your first Public Speaking will be good. Good Luck

Actually, this isn't my first public speaking. I had several public speeches before. I just don't think I'll ever get used to speaking in front of a crowd. Thanks for the recommendations
