People come and gone. Every person we met in our life have to go one day including myself. It is only the memories in our mind that reminds us again and again of some one whom we love or care about. But, isn't it the irony that, someone who teach us to live life to the fullest and remain happy in every moment, we made there memories to overcrowd our mind. It's only our weakness and not a strength. Instead of letting the memories to dominate us we should use the memories of there teachings to made others happy. Only then that stronghold will become even stronger.

in time the will have to move on and be strong for themselves
but as of now their longing for the person is still lingering
nothing they can but try to fight the feeling and be strong to stand alone

The phrase "What would Jesus do?" comes to mind. Lord Jesus Christ is "already gone"; He's not any 'place' where I can go and ASK His advice, but I DO have 'my memories of Him' and -a collection of stories of what He DID do (His 'history,' the Gospels).
From that history, I can see that He had friends who could help Him through any trouble He couldn't help Himself out of (I can't think of any example of Him using those friends--because the Bible wants you to think He never needed any help--but He did 'lay down His life for His friends (and that includes you!)')
So I guess that's what you should do ... not necessarily "dying for your friends," but living for their happiness and well-being!
