Injection to vegetable fruits!!

India

These are two recent incidents. My wife fried ‘egg plant’ on 5th of this month; she is fond of this vegetable, after she ate with our normal food, she felt itching sensation in mouth and her tongue and pellet swelled, I at first thought it was due to the herbal medicines we both are taking, I rang up the doctor, he said it was not due to the medicines at all. I told him about the eggplant, she ate. He said, his friend had a drastic experience, he used to take juice of bitter gourd daily in the morning, but last week he suffered from vomiting, foams came out from his mouth, a clear case of poisoning; he was in hospital for 4 days. Now it is learnt that , the vegetable shops are getting stock of vegetables from Kolkata and some parts of south India at 1/4th price here, these are colored with green dye, it is also known that they inject the brinjals , bitter gourds, plain gourds, even fruits, mangoes, bananas, with some kind of injections, these injections are poisonous!!! Some traders here push injection to cows, so that they give more milk, these chemicals are secreted in milk, and goes to our stomach. Please share and comment. Thanks in advance. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

hello professor, these things should be reported in your local health centers and department of trade. these things has to be investigated and if culprit is found, be penalized. it is not right to earn from selling things that would poison the public. this has to be stopped. ann

I agree with you. Every time I get vegitables or fruit I have to look to make sure their are no punctur marks and I'm in the US. I just don't put anything past anyone theses days. I STILL check the candy and hold on to is for a week before the kids get it for halloween. uggg. Very scary.

i guess the one sold in the supermarkets are safer because they know the supplier. it is in the local market that these things are probably thriving. so the investigation should start there. ann

Sweety The police, the market inspector (from health dept) are all aware of this, they get their weekly and daily bribes from the sellers. Thanks for sharing Best of luck. Professor

Now you got me here scarred. I don't want to buy veggies that are injected with chemicals. I do hope that the veggies we buy in the market are all safe. We should all be careful in selecting the fruits and veggies we buy. We do shop in groceries but at times when we need to save money, we go to local market and buy our supply of fruits and veggies. These vendors should be caught especially those who do illegal things just to masquerade their products. It is really unfortunate that this happened to your wife. Now she will be very careful selecting veggies to buy as well as fruits and she would avoid buying on that same shop. My husband told me that these vendors put chemicals to treat fruits so that they can ripe easily and it is bad to health. About the dye on veggies, oh my goodness this one too is the most dangerous, it will really poison a person. I will really be choosy this time when buying especially now that I'm having a baby.

That is a frightening thing to hear! I have no knowledge of anything like what happened to your wife here but that is not to say that it is not happening to our fruit and vegetables. Such incidents should definitely be reported, they are very serious!

Recently i bought some carrots and you will not believe as i saw orange colored water when i was washing them. Colored water has been injected to make the carrot look luscious. The next one is the apples. One of my friend had warned me of apples being dipped in wax to give the glow on it. I had bought some and just rubbed the knife on it an lo! the knife was peeling off the wax in it. We had to scrape of the peel to eat the apples. My grand daughter loves apples but i feel so sad when i cannot given them one just by washing it. As i removed the peel of the fruit the small child was saying me, we have to remove the peel of all the fruits before we eat them. What a truth by a small child! Happy mylotting.

Though this is not something that I think is right when it comes to fresh produce, it is something that is happening more and more often now. What makes it worse is that the consumers are not made aware of the fact that there are additives to their foods before they buy them so there is a chance that people can have allergic reactions to the things that are added to the vegetables. With that said, I hope that she is feeling better now.

Ok so I am not insane for thinking that this could happen. It does! I am soooo sorry to hear your wife had to go through that; it must have been very scary for her since she did not know what type of poison it was. I am happy to hear that she is fine, but wow you guys are dealing with a lot it seems. Why would another human being do such a thing??? To inflict pain on a innocent by stander is just wrong. What goes around comes around I say.

Thankfully in Italy thereis a special unit of police just for this reason to ensure everything being sold has no virus and are fit for human consumption. Please be careful and I tell your wife I say get well soon

I've never heard of that, but I know that over here they feed the animals growth hormones and antibiotics, and those things end up inside our bodies too. Not good...

I hope your wife is well by now. How could those vegetable shop owners be so greedy that they don't even think of the harmful effects it would give to the consuming public! Why can't they be put to jail for that? I think they should be pursued and have to pay the price. Imagine they are putting the people's lives in danger just because of profit. This is the reason why I am very careful about those fruits, veggies and whatever I eat. I know this could really happen.

Seriously? How can that happen? This just amazes me! I can not believe this! Aren't there food inspectors around who check on the shipment of produce so nothing like this will happen? This would not happen here in the states! This is very shocking!

I am afraid that is how do things nowadays to gain more profit, at the expense of people's health. We cannot really identify which ones which buy have been subjected to chemical, so what I usually do is wash vegetables thoroughly and cook them properly. With green salads, I wash each leaves and enjoy my salad and hope to heaven that I won't feel ill for eating "healthy food" like a vegetable salad. I don't eat red meat so much for I am a semi-vegetarian.But still that doesn't protect me from harmful pesticides they put on veggies and other chemicals they inject on animals. Well I guess, someday I need a reason to die anyway. (^_^)

Hello Papa! Oh my this is sad that Maa got so sick after eating the eggplant. One time a neighbor brought over some home grown herbs and although I am very picky with home grown items I thought for the first time I be neighborly. So I used the herbs to make our special Puerto Rican Seasonings with them and all of sudden after using it I began to get a really bad itchy reaction. My first thought was how strange I have never gotten this from our seasonings ever. So after four days I used more of it and this time I was really sick. I had to go to the emergency room as I was filled with bumps, itching and vomiting quit a bit. I was asked what I was eating as there were no explanations. When I called my neighbor she said they used some special chemical injections as vitamins to help better grow the herbs. Oh my God I thought I would pass out. That taught me to stick to my original plan and not consume anything anyone injects any grown items with. It cost me 11 days in the hospital and was seen by infectious disease specialist as they could not understand why the reactions I was getting. I hope Maa is doing much better and best to keep away from such type of foods that are injected this way as you will not know if next time it could be dangerous for her health. She is dealing with enough so best she stay away from this. Have a wonderful and blessed week.

This is horrible that this happened to your wife. You almost never know what you are getting when you buy stuff from the store. I've stopped buying milk for myself.. I still buy it for the family, but I drink almond milk for myself. I wonder sometimes if the fruit I buy is contaminated with anything.. I hope not.

These 'poisonous injections' should also be against the law. I would be very upset if I ate something I got from the market and it poisoned me. This drastic experience that the doctor you called told you about could have killed him! I would report this place and not shop there anymore.

Sad to hear that your wife is not feeling well after eating that vegetable. Actually, egg plant is also one of my favorite vegetable, too. Is she fine now? I think those vendors should be brought to the court for causing lots of health problems to the consumers. Some of my neighbors ever had some problem after consuming certain vegetables in my area here, too. So i am very careful as not to buy vegetables that seems too healthy and beautiful in color.

That's really awful and disgusting what they do. Chemicals are poisonous and many people can be sick or even die of it. What people do to get some more money its really shameful. I hope your wife's friend is fine. I wish you all the best!

Consumption of such vegetables, which are being grown in various parts of the district, has made the residents’ lives worse. The menace connected with the injection of various chemicals into vegetables, which cause deformities and cancer in human beings, came to light in a number of villages of the district where the growers have been injecting Oxytocin into vegetables and fruits to get more yield and bigger size. KK Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, ordered a probe after coming to know about this problem. He said he had asked the district health authorities to inquire into the matter. “We have been injecting chemicals in the plants during the growth of vegetables so that vegetables and fruits could give a fresh and attractive look to the customers,” said Taranjeet Singh (name changed), a vegetable grower, on condition of anonymity and not disclosing the name of his village. “People want to buy fresh-looking vegetables, hence we use this method as we find it expensive to use fertilisers to increase the fertility of soil,” said Mokham Singh, another vegetable grower. These growers have also been using other harmful chemicals apart from Oxytocin. The packets of some of the chemicals, which were being used by them, did not carry any wrapper on which the brand name or details of contents were written.thanjs
