MyLot is a discussion site and the comments are what turn a response into a discussion.
MyLot tell us in the FAQs:
"[i]Use myLot, post discussions, respond to discussions, comment on discussions, or perform searches.
Post quality content. For example, generate discussions that engage other users and provide insightful responses and comments to other users discussions to further the topic[/i]"

When you start a discussion you earn NOTHING for the responses that others post. They earn for those.
You earn by commenting on those responses and making your topic become a discussion.
You will earn for your comments and you will see in the next earnings update your earnings for your activity yesterday, which will include the comments you made if they were worthwhile. Saying 'thank you for the response' is not enough to earn.

ya,i am agree with you,commenting on responses also pays you ,because it is a discussion site and we get said for that,posting responses and comments on our discussions that we have started helps us to earn even more amount of money as compared to just starting a discussion,thanks for nice information.

If you comment on the responses on your own started discussions then the user rating will not increase.
If you comment on a response on a discussion started by others it will increase by 1 for the first comment that you leave. If you respond and comment on a discussion started by others then the user rating will increase by 2.
The user rating is not related to earnings. If you start a discussion which receives 100 responses and you comment on all of the responses, even multiple times, your user rating will remain the same but you will be very happy with how your earnings will increase

A true discussion gets strengthened by comments. Hence comments do become vital in every sense. Therefore the right attitude in posting would be not remembering how many discussions you have started and how many comments you have made. Just go on. That is it.

Yes you do get paid for commenting on others discussions,provided your comments are relevant and reasonable. Commenting merely to for the sake of it will not get you any results you are looking for

You will have your own star when your user rating reaches 100.

The colour will depend on how many plus ratings you have received for your posts from other myLotters.
