Its a real mind twisting question. If you mean the spouse, children and parents against friends, I will choose family. But if family is extended to relations, in my case I really do not fancy being with them, then I will choose friends of course.

Family and friends both carry the same weightage in our lives. Family helps us to grow and make ourselves stand out in the world and society so that we can represent them for the future. and friends help us in making ourselves much better human beings than we are by letting us know our faults and follies in the right stage and right manner so as to improve the steps which we are taking or about to take.
Both the relations are important for a consistent and healthy existence. If you discard family you will be all alone in that case you will be looking for help and support in your difficult times. Not only friends can support you but your family as well. But if you discard friends family both then you will yourself in the middle of a deep sea with shark faced troubles ready to engulf you. thus, make true friends and be there always with your family as well.

Both are equally important because there some things that only friends can do and some that only family can do.
So I think both are imporant.
