How do you get rid of a thought that's just recently or has been in your head for a long period of time? I can't seem to get thought's out of my head because i can't help but let my imagination run wild which usually ends up with Very Disturbing images.

Think of something just as powerfull a thought even though it may be irratating it should replace the current. I have to do this from time to time too. I get a thought stuck in my head just seems to go on and on till I feel like I am going crazy. Reading a book is even better. Watching tv does not really help; you have to use your brain to block out the bad. Good luck And God Bless

I've studied some hypnotherapy and it's proven to cause amnesia but it's only temporary. Eventually, the blocked memory would emerge again, especially if it's something very significant to the person, like a trauma or phobia. Most of the time, the fear will trigger but the person will have no idea why he feels that way. You can also try diverting your thoughts to something else. There are times when I catch myself thinking about nonsense. During these events, I just think of something important like something I have to do later on. This also helps but only to some degree. If the thought is something that triggers tremendous emotion, chances are you'll have a hard time diverting your thought to something else.
