Would it be helpful for those of us fluent in English, to correct questions or statements by fellow Mylotters who have English as a second language?
This would be an attempt to help others learn English better, but I would not wish to offend anyone.

I am all for helping if I am asked for the help. As you I feel that if I was to help where it is not asked for maybe the member would be embarrassed and or offended. I often get many members jump in boxes where I have responded to discussions asking me to help them as they are not fully understanding a discussion due to the English barriers. I am always happy those asking.
I admire anyone who gives their best and try with a few mistakes here and there will help them in the long run to learn. I have not dared say to someone you spelled this or that wrong, and have actually seen in discussions where someone says I am not sure if this is the correct spelling, and then I can happily help them to give the correct spelling.
I am Hispanic and very fluent in both English and Spanish, where I have seen a great many elders in my own surrounding who refuse to try. It is those that try that I have feel very proud of. Some outright refuse even though they understand the language because they somehow are embarrassed.

We are told in the Guidelines that we should not post to criticise other people's English. I think this applies only to gratuitous criticism. Certainly, if someone asks a specific question about their use of English or invites criticism or correction, then it is quite legitimate to help them, so long as the help is given politely and with consideration.

I think it maybe helpful if it doesn't offend... I find it hard to understand some people because of this... It must be hard, but I wouldn't know really because English is all I know... I think many come here to help them with thier english, so it would be beneficial to help guide them in the right direction sometimes..

Anyway it is stated on the "DONT's List" on guidelines.
It is stated that we are not allowed to:
"Post discussions, responses, or comments criticizing members for bad/broken English or bad spelling. Everyone is welcome at myLot, we have users from all around the world and they are welcome regardless of their proficiency with the English Language"
http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx
So, I think you shouldn't do that. Except, if you want to tell them via private way - maybe via Private Message :)
~and make sure you'll tell it with polite way xD.
