The "problem child" at work got fired yesterday

So, the guy that has been giving me grief at work got fired yesterday. I have been at a different store for the last 2 weeks, so I have not been kept up to date on everything that has been going on over there. I just learned last night from a co-worker that he had given his notice. I had a meeting with my boss this morning though and he told me about it. Apparently this guy put in his 2 weeks notice last week, but then yesterday did over $160 in refunds without a good reason as to why. Naturally they think he was stealing the money. He had also had this sort of "I don't care." attitude since he put in his notice. The boss called him last night and asked to not come back for his final week. I am so happy he is gone. It will make the workplace so much nicer without him there. Of course him being gone will change my schedule a little bit, but I think it will be worth it to not have to deal with him anymore. Ever have someone you work with give you such a hard time and make work so unpleasant that you were overjoyed when they quit or got fired?

OMG that's just crazy. Can't they prove it? Where do you work? I ask because I work at a privately owned convenience store in a small town and it would seem our security is better than yours. when we do refunds, we have to write on the slip exactly what the refund was for and have the customer sign the slip. not only is it documented we have cameras that are on the internete...high tech that will show the transaction if there is any question at all. My boss can be in another country and still watch what goes on in his store. I'm sure if we tried to steal then we'd get caught real quick. its happened. My boss is really laid back but he would not tolerate anyone stealing from him. Last year a lady who worked here got caught taking a carton of cigs from the store. Not only did she get fired...he took her to court. OUCH.

They can go back and look at the cameras to see what really happened. I have not been there for the last 2 weeks so I am not sure all of what happened with it.

Actually at one time I did....she was always talking about me behind my back...said snide remarks about the schedule....so finally one day she did make me cry....so the boss and I and her went into the office....and I got to say anything to her that I wanted. The first thing I said was....what have I ever done to you that makes you hate me so much....she was shocked. Anyway since then we have gotten along just fine with the exception of one day when she was throwing a tantrum and I asked her.....what's the payoff for acting like a two year old? She's been good since!

I am glad she decided to be good. I have been gone from that store the last 2 weeks, so it has been peaceful for me at the other place. When I got back if he was still the same way I was going to confront him. My boss said if that did not work then HE would say something to him.

I dont know what's up to you and your co-worker but I think it is unfair to be happy when someone lost their job. Nowadays, it is hard to find a job, you must think that he also has his own family who needed support. Anyway, I hope the man will change his attitude so that he could find a better working community.

He already had another job lined up, so he really is only missing out on one week of work before he starts his new job.

Whoa glad the problem person is now gone and working life can hopefully be smoother for you and the others. I have not had a problem person at any of the jobs I have had in the past. Oh except for the owner of one of them and sadly he could not go. lol

Yeah, I am so excited to go back to work now knowing that he will not be there. He made it unpleasant for everyone, not just me.

Where i work we had do something similar in nature doing phony refunds and pocketing the cash. There was hundreds missing over the course of a few days but sooner or later he got caught on surveillance tape and was led out by police officers and sent to jail.Theft even even in small amounts is not acceptable and you loose people respect and trust if you get caught doing it.It simply is not worth the risk and even if you are struggling to pay the bills it is not something to consider as all it will do is create more trouble for you now and down the road getting another job.

Lucky for him he already had another job lined up or it probably would be hard for him. He seems to go through jobs fairly quickly, so I am sure it will catch up with him sooner or later.

Yes, like you we've had a "problem child" at work. He was always late if not absent and always sleeping at work. He was still in probationary when he started showing this kind of behavior. We've got mad with our leader when this guy became a regular employee, he should have been fired on his first few months. Our schedule is at night and he used to work in morning shifts, he always uses that as a reason why he is always sleeping and even blame his body clock. He didn't manage to adjust on the schedule even after several months of being with the team. He is also very lazy. Our goal is to process 10 or more orders everyday and he is only processing 1 daily most of the time. He was sent to undergo performance improvement plan program. He fails the objectives in the program and he resigned. He was smart enough to resign first before the human resource terminates him.

Well, there was this one manager who treated all her employees like she didn't trust them...

Yep! Since I've had my job one guy got fired.. he was hired at the same time as me. He didn't work too much, because he was a terrible worker, so I didn't have to deal with him often.. but he drove everyone nuts so it was good that they let him go. Now that school is starting soon.. a lot of the other problem people will be leaving. The 2 college girls that I can't stand will finally be gone, and the one other guy who's lazier than a sloth will also be gone except for weekends. Just too bad that I have to cut back on my hours because of my son playing in soccer this fall and I won't have any other babysitter while he's at soccer practices and games.

Maybe getting rid of those people will make your job more tolerable than it has been lately. I know when I go back to my store on Thursday it is going to be so much more peaceful.
