My husband and I were chatting yesterday via Yahoo! Messenger. We were laughing about something when he types in FTW! FTW! over and over. I told him (in a serious note) that please don't say FTW again because it annoys me. I thought he was swearing by writing WTF backwards! Then he said, For the win? What's so wrong about For the win? I could see him scratching his head and with that annoying grin as I read his response!hahahahah!! I just told him, umm... I thought he was swearing at me that's why I was not happy with it.hahaha!! He said, of all the bloggers he knows, I'm the most outdated in cyber language. Well.... I couldn't disagree with him after this incident.nyahaha! LoL!

I wouldn't have known what it meant either, tho I probably wouldn't have thought of "WTF" either... I'd've just asked...

You and I both, simplyd. It was something new to me, hahaha! Anyway, I suppose For the win means, "the best!" in a very sarcastic way.

I would have never known this one, but I am sure there are ones out there that you might be aware of that I have never heard of. Personally Cyber language and such is changing all the time as kids get older. It often depends on what people make popular as you can relate to it.

Actually, that is right my friend. Although I am not always updates with the different kinds of lingo going around online or via sms, I'm not really bothered. I usually chat with my parents (well, besides my hubby that is); I'm pretty sure mom and dad are also not updated with those new terms.hahaha!

I am surprised by what your husband said that FTW meant because my friend has FTW tattooed on his stomach & here in Australia, it mainly means f*%k the world. Maybe I'm behind the times too but in everyday language, that's what it means

I guess it depends on which context it was meant in but if it was meant in the way I know it to mean then you are right to be mad when you see it.

Now, I'm confused! Could it be that FTW has many meanings and I was right to be mad about it the first time I heard of it?

So you know I am outdated! Wonder where I can get an updated part so I know cyber lingo

This is not unusual to mistake words when you read in a hurry. I think everybody did this once. Have you known that we can understand a text even if there are many letters missing from that text or if the letters are mixed up? Here's a link to an article about this: http://www.zyra.org.uk/shuffled.htm

You were probably too angry that you thought about WTF. Otherwise you should have read it correctly. Your mind made you read what was on your mind, not what was on the screen, you know?

Oh yes, I know this inu. It's how brilliant we are. I've read several articles on how our mind works. It's amazing, isn't it? But in my case, I knew that my hubby was saying FTW rather than WTF. I was annoyed because I thought he purposely spelled it backwards because he was overjoyed about our discussion the other day.

Well, at least you had to find it out from your husband and not from somebody else, which would have made it more awkward. Plus, you get to learn something new. FTW!
