I wonder why I can't fill in color to the selected zone

Recently I started using CS5, but I wonder why I can't fill in color to the selected zone when I use the magic rod? I remember I can do this in CS4 or the previous ones. who can tell me how to change the background color from white to red while using the magic rod?

You can change any colour in the colour palette. The magic wand tool works fine in CS5. I am using it right now. But by red, do mean the quick mask mode?? Then you can find it under SELECT - Edit in quick mask mode. Hope this helped.
