Hello Friends :) I have seen many times that people tap the TV remote when it not work properly. Well in my house this is quite normal thing as remote is not working properly. Now all of us became quite used to of it that yesterday when one phone call wasn't clear then my mom was tapping my mobile too. I guess I have to buy new TV remote soon otherwise all of us will become like this. What about you friends...?? Do you used to tap any things when they don't work properly ??

That is a very effective way to make any electrical device work. There are so many different ways of tapping too. I tap a lot of things. Like you, my remote is almost useless and needs tapping every now or then or it becomes very lazy and doesn't do anything. I tap the TV as well, because recently it stopped displaying anything unless it was tapped(or sometimes slapped) a few times. Then there is my head, others' head which need tapping from time to time.

That is what I found out in another post of yours. Can't believe our televisions have the same problems. It isn't contagious is it?? Of course, I am good with the head taps. I have been getting them from others as well, and as you can see, I give a few to some people as well.

You are tapping your mobile too.. About TV, Even I have to tap my TV after starting it otherwise there will be no display. May be got effected by rainy weather as it was good before rain. But I must say tapping is always a good temporary repairing work.

Yes if there is loosening of wire they come in contact in case of TV by tapping but its temporary solution also can cause severe problem.

hi akp oh yes I used to thump my mouse when it was not working properly but it really did not help much. once it would not obey me at all and when my son came to see me he just picked it up and waved it around and voila it worked perfectly. I no longer tap things as its never been effective anyway and just might break something instead. lol lol

Waving helps as well??!!! Wow... I am gonna try that... Now, what should I wave?? waving my hand won't do much good. It is working fine anyways.

Waving your TV?? I bet it is rather small and you can carry it around..!!! Ours is a giant... Oh by the day it just got fixed today. The company send a guy who did some tweaks and there is display again. I am learning so much from you guys and especially this discussion. Why did I go to school???

we do it too. we have this tv remote control which do not function properly and when we tap it, it will work. if it will not work in slight tap we will make it harder. even the little kids get sick of the remote when they are the ones watching tv.

Looks like, none of the TV remotes work. They need tapping more than they need batteries. That is interesting.

I am not sure but this kind of habit is very common for most people. I also tap TV remote control, but not the TV itself...thu I've seen people doing that thing and soon after they tap the thing it works again ... do you think there is any wonder about tapping? any magnetic force I haven't tried it, because the last time our TV sets doesn't work I throw it out of our window. have a good day jaiho®

Well.. There are many wonders in tapping in above responses.. Oh. some of them do this tapping stuff with kick and some of them do this tapping on people too. Lots of unique tapping ideas in above responses. About tv sets.. One of my tv have to eat slap from me to get its display. I wonder if any magnetic forces taking part in it or not..

And I forget to tell.. Some of them also try to throw the things when they don't work like throwing remote control make it works.. So have you try to run that TV which you thrown out of window.. It should work.. check it.

Yes, tapping it or pressing the buttons really hard when the batteries are about to die. also with the mobile phone, kind of shaking it until the screen moves to the position I want it to, as it's a bit tricky.

Hello akp100, hah, time flies, I used to remember our very old JVC television which was bought by my dad since 1992. seven or eight years after it started showing signs of cable trouble or some thing freaking wrong with the lead inside the television. i think youshould buy a new tv or simply just check the cables on your atenna. have a nice day

I am thinking about taking it for repairing work.. It is giving display after 15 minutes (with tapping process) after starting it. And it is becoming worse. If this will not solve i have to go for new one.

Hi akp, Yes, we certainly do, and I think sometimes it works because some contact points are loose somewhere, so when we tap it or shake it, sometimes, the contact points got connected again and the appliance works again. However I think it is an old-fashioned way of doing Nowadays, things are more intricate and high-tech, I wouldn't want to spoil it by tapping it hard. I would try to find out the place where it came loose and connect it back properly. Isn't that better?

I guess that is like a habit that most of us just don't think about. It's like if the TV has some wavy lines, we just go over to it and tap the sides. Funny.

That habit has been very common in our house as well. I observed that even our neighbor and relatives do that tapping too. Our remote actually was almost broke because of this tapping and sooner we’ll have to replace it. We have a washing machine and I always tap it whenever it behaves suspiciously. Most of the time, this tapping makes things work. Haven’t tried tapping cellphones but I have tried throwing one out of the window because I couldn’t get any reception.

True..

17 Aug 11
And did that throwing make mobile working again. Well that kind of throwing works for someone. Yes tapping works in major cases with electronic items. But as your remote got damage due to that better we don't over tap them.
@sais06 (1284)

17 Aug 11
Somehow it worked because I got a new one that can get a good reception. We usually would hit it hard when we get frustrated with the remote for not working. I guess that’s major reason why it’s broken. We better should get rid of this habit.

Haha! This is so me! I always try to tap things first and see if it will work after that like magic. I do it in remotes, cd and dvd players, calculators and many others. I do that because I am thinking that there maybe some loose batteries or mispositioned parts within the gadgets that made them work improperly, and tapping it might get those loose parts or batteries back to where they need to be. Haha! I really made a habit of doing that so often. Now you made me realized some funny moment before when our defunct television is already blurring and I tapped it to work pretty god again. I had fooled some other kids into believing that what I did was magic.

Yes, I do feel so. That is why many subscribe to doing it. Easy, sometimes effective, and no fees included. But I do solved a lot of such problems with just the tapping. Best things to do first is to tap, shake and try turn off and rest the gadget first a few minutes before turning on again. Those are my most common habits when encountering problems as such.
16 Aug 11
hi:) yes I'm doing that too on our tv remote when it's not working then i take out the battery then put it back again, what's funny is I even saw my grandpa before tapping the back of our radio when it's not working then put the battery under the sun if it doesn't work anymore, but what shocking is it started to work again after he done that.

See its the best temporary repairing work. It works for almost all electric items. But better we do the permanent work on them before they got more damage from our tapping.

In my case...when my computer stops working...i often bang it on the ground and it starts working... silly loose connections u know... apart from that i bang many more things for it to work... wish i could use the same theory on people... things would be so much easier...lol

LOL.. Using bang theory on people can be dangerous too.. Better you don't try it. ha ha... And you bang your computer on ground just because they aren't working.. It must be made of steel or some hard material..

Oh yeah I do it a lot and not only tapping remote controls that don't work but also people too. Of course, the latter I do but not as violently as I do to remote controls. If I'll do a count, I must have broken more than 20 remotes because of this bad habit. I guess the tapping is more of a reflex reaction mixed with a hope or desire that somehow the act of tapping will fix the problem. Of course, more often than not, the problem with the inner mechanisms of the remote gets worse and worse. After that, I just throw the thing away out of desperation. Good thing people are not remote controls.

More than 20 remotes.. I guess i should do it carefully otherwise my remote will get more damages too.

Yes TV remote is the common thing which always got tapped by many people. I don't know about technical things.. But yes most of time this trick works.
