Starting out on MyLot... What were your thoughts when starting out?
August 17, 2011 12:29am CST
Well this is officially my first discussion thread and i am quite nervous indeed. I know i am quite overwhelmed and extremely excited about starting out! I love to write and i have so many opinions and i'm sure anyone who knows me would tell you the same, haha...
So how were you feeling when you first started out? What were the reasons behind you joining MyLot? and what advice would you give to those who are starting out like myself?
Thanks for all and any of your help!

Hello Dear LittleMissSpritz! First of all , Warm Welcome to Mylot! Yes, I too was over whelmed and extremely excited to have entered Mylot when this site was started! I was one of the few initial members who have joined this site some five to six years back! Initially like every body I too was interested in making some on line money and I was too curious to see if it really exists! Then the concept of on line money making was not so popular! I participated with full of zeal and enthusiasm and posted a lot of discussions and postings! I too like writing which made me to participate in this forum very actively! Since there was no restriction about the topics and subject, it was almost like a free lancing! Gradually over the period of time I realised the knack of making good postings and t start some good discussions! I too had some teething problems along with this site and I too manged to overcome those along with site! This site was a simple initially and today it is well decorated and thoroughly professional looking one!Very soon I realised that , this site is not a site just to make money, but there are many advantages here apart from simply making the earnings! We have fantastic membership on this site and they are from all walks of life from all most all parts of the World! They are well behaved , well mannered, friendly, ready to help and most polite lot I have seen so far on any discussion forum! We have strict admin.who deletes anything violating the rules which keeps the site healthy and clean! Thus today I come to this site to pass same quality time and just to have some fun and to enjoy myself after a day's hectic work or during the time when I get a short break in my tiring work!
Here in this site all we need to take care of while initiating a discussion or in responding a discussion, is to maintain the quality. This site stresses on quality and also quantity. Use proper language, with no spelling mistake and be polite and be descriptive. Please respond back to the responses you get back to make your topic as a real 'Discussion' and not a question answer type topic!
Please go through the FAQ and Rules and regulation section and try to remember the rules. They are nothing extra ordinary in nature. In fact whatever we feel wrong from the bottom of our hearts is the violation of rule, that is what I realised and I never try to indulge in any short cut methods of making money! It is your efforts which will not only fetch you good income but it will make you more popular in no time!
All the best and Happy Mylotting! Thanks !

Hi Dear Ms Diana! I am really pleasantly surprised and was just recalling your statement which you have made in one of your discussion that, we will get the Star promotion at a least expected time! You also advised not to look at the star now and then! Believe me I stopped bothering about the rating and, Lo, today I am pleasantly surprised to see that I have a blue suit!
Oh yes ! I think we should really celebrate this Occasion...Could you come up with some nice idea ?
Well regarding the time factor, I am managing to steal some time from here and there and coming to this site!
Off the topic discussion, but still I want to vent out my feelings, I have been cheated by another PTP forum 'Market Swag' where I have spend some time and having crossed the payout limit I was informed along with others that they have stopped paying for the discussion! Well I lost some $11 or so! There were few other Mylot members too on that site! Because of this I was unable to attend Mylot and soon I will be back with full swing!
Thanks a lot and take care!

Hi LittleMissSpritz, I joined mylot because my friend who works as an English teacher is encouraging me to practice English by joining English forum. I joined English forum in a local website but I did not enjoy it because most of the threads are about games but in mylot we can talks so many topic discussions. At first I was afraid to participate because I dont speak English well but Im happy that mylot appreciated my participation. I get 3 benefits from joining mylot: practicing English, learning and sharing knowledge, and the last is we can earn some money from our participation. I think its still too early for me to talk about earning but there are many senior members here who has been paid by this site.

That is fantastic Fashionfever!
I definitely commend you on the participation! it is a great way to broaden horizons and knowledge! where are you from and what language is your first? English is the only language i speak but i have attempted French, Italian and Spanish, but to no avail! so i can definitely understand how difficult it would be to participate in a forum such as these!
i can also understand that it is too early to think about the money side of it, as it is how im feeling at the moment, maybe when i get used to it ill be able to think about that side more clearly but at the moment im just here for friends and fun!!!

My first thought was that I was never going to make payout. I didn't see how in the world the pennies would add up to anything substantial. But they did. Although when I first joined they paid more then than they pay now. Still, it takes a few months, but I do make payout still. Some people who spend half their day on here make enough to make payout every month. That would be hard for me.
I also thought how nice everyone was. And for the most part, they are. So if you run into any grouches or jerks, don't let them get to you. They are in the minority. Have you read the guidelines or FAQs? Those are really helpful. I don't remember if I read them when I first joined, but I have read them since. And they are really helpful in knowing how to navigate mylot.
And finally, I wondered why so few people responded to my very first discussions. It was because I didn't have many people on my friend list. And with so many discussions on mylot, it's important to have friends because they actually get our discussions in their e-mail. So if you only get a few responses, it's nothing against you or your posts.
I joined because someone referred me and I wanted to help them make money. They aren't here anymore, but I am!

Welcome to myLot!
When I first joined I spent most of my time in the money interests. It wasn't until much later that I discovered the other topics and I should have realised sooner as I would have had more fun sooner.
My advice is not to be in a hurry. Take things slowly and understand that myLot is for discussions. Don't just start topics and abandon them.
Did you put your notifiers 'on' here?
http://www.mylot.com/nr/editNotifications.aspx
When others respond or comment to you go back and comment back. Get into a conversation and then you won't even think about numbers and earnings - but they will take care of themselves. Most of all, have FUN!

MyLot is based in US and the first, and until recently, the majority of users were from US so there was more American English being used. Now there is a mixture. There area a great deal of users who only have English as their second or third language too. They do a great job and I admire them for trying so hard on what must be a difficult site for some of them
Grammatical mistakes are not taken into consideration but the use of text/chat language is not quality and therefore should be avoided.
As long as we do our best to make ourselves understood in the discussions then I think it doesn't make any diffence which English we use, just as long as it is English

Thank you Mysdianait
No, i haven't put my notifications on yet, i will be sure to do that now!
I will definitely try not to abandon my topics unless my internet goes wrong like it sometimes likes to do when i have an important assignment to do for uni!
By the way, just on a side note, are people on here using American spelling, or is that just some people?

Hi there LittleMissSpritz! Welcome to mylot! Like you when I first started in mylot I felt excited and ready to get the hang out of it. Yes, mylot is a very friendly environment that you can't simply resist. I really like it here since then. People are helpful, friendly and creative. My primary reason why I joined mylot was to earn money. But I was wrong I didn't just earned money but also friends and advices from the mylot community. My advice to you is to keep going. While you have fresh and new ideas to write, don't hesitate to share it here. There are a lot of interest that you can choose. Comment on the topics which you find interesting and intriguing. Don't just reply with a single sentence. Three or more will be good to earn more. If sometime you feel bored just do your other online stuffs and be back to mylot when your mind is set to get going again. Post more quality topics and enjoy. Have fun! Don't forget to ask help if you need it. Good luck!

Hi Meticulo,
i have found it to be very friend with what i have posted (yes i know, it hasn't been much) and from what i have read (also not a lot) but i like it here so far. i don't think ill be able to spend lots of time here, but when i've got the odd hour or two, i think this is where ill be!
So your primary reason to be here was for the money, so was it a good monetary return, and how long roughly do you spend on this site per day/week/month? actually that is a great question for everyone!
So how long do you all spend on this site?

The main reason why I started out in myLot is money :P I never heard of a forum/discussion site which offers earning so I tried it out and soon enough, in a short span of time, I simply ignore the amount I'm making since I'm really enjoying my time here in myLot. I meet new people and at the same time, my discussions, ideas and suggestions aren't head by deaf since most of them are replied back by fellow myLotters :D I only started last month and I'm going half way with my $10 payout :)
Just enjoy your stay and you'll be surprised that you're already earning. Make sure to post meaningful discussions and replies :D Comment on those who replied back on your discussions. Doing available tasks also helps earn additional income so try to do some too :)
Enjoy your stay, welcome to myLot and enjoy myLotting :D

I was so excited. I read the rules mainly to find out if they were like the other writing sites and was pleased that there was no 'do not talk about religion or politics, and that you could talk about anything within reason. And you did not have to agree with everyone. Well I thought that means that we can agree to disagree and since I am the type who is curious, and also wants to help others, but at the same time I am rather shy about meeting them in person, and since it bothers me that I think I have no one to talk to who understands, well there is a chance I could find a lot of people like me.
We have to think here, not like the other places where you just press a link. And do not forget the practice in writing articles. I am good at making up stories and fiction, but when writing about an actual experience, I still have a bit of trouble finding out when this and that happened and my lot gets my brain to work better.

Hello LMS!
Welcome to mylot. Please do not feel nervous here. It is a very friendly site and all members are very supportive and cooperative. Remember, like you, we all were raw here, when I joined this site. We learnt the tricks of trade step-by-step. I did not know much about mylot, when I joined the site but once I understood its concept, I became addicted to this site and am here for nearly 5 years. You should start relevant discussions and you should post your comments to the responses received. Don't hesitate or feel shy to share your views. Please also read FAQs and guidelines to make yourself accustomed with the site.

Welcome to mylot! I joined a long time ago to help out a friend who needed referrals. After a little while I forgot about that and grew addicted to the site. The money was not important, but the friends and knowledge, the support when I need it, are incredible.
My advise would be to read mylot´s rules carefully before posting too much. We all got through the stage of having our posts deleted or without responses. I also think that answering posts is a good way to learn the know how.
Happy posting and see you around!

Hi there, How are you? Nice meeting you at mylot. The first time i felt when starting out on mylot, i was a bit nervous and excited but same time worried. I don't know how much i would make using this this, but then again, if I don't worry about the money counter and i keep posting, then the money thing will increase.
Advice i would give is do respond and give valuable discussion response. Just be creative answer questions. the reasons i join mylot was to see if i can earn something while responding to discussions.

When I started out in mylot I was pretty excited to earn. My mind is bursting in excitement and I can feel the thrill. The first thing that made me join mylot is because of the earnings while joining discussions and the fact that you meet new friends and learn from them. This is a nice niche for people who are socially well-rounded and for those who want to be.
For those who are just starting in mylot, do not think of the money that you will get from the site but the experience and knowledge that you will gain. That the things that money cannot buy. Which is also a good investment for us since we gain a lot and maybe those ideas can be turned into reality like how to star a business and those many how to be questions.
Good luck and happy lotting to you!

I joined myLot after I randomly found it mentioned in a forum about online earnings, the concept sounded interesting and I decide it was worth giving it a try.I can't say that that I was nervous, but I was excited when I made my first posts.Anyway, everything went smoothly from the beginning and it took me only a few days to become familiar with the site,so there's nothing to be nervous about,it's a very interesting and also useful way of spending time online. The only advice I could give to newcomers is to give meaningful responses and be active here every day,and also not to forget to use the search engine if they want to earn faster.

Hello LittleMissSpritz,
My story is bit different.
I was in search of some legit site to earn some extra money but i was not finding it.One day when i was searching site i saw MYLOT i just registered on it.First few days were nervous for me too as i was always worried what should i write what should i start with.
I used to read more than to write in the starting then too i had to start discussions which i should not and could have easily found it on Guidelines or FAQs which i now realize but then the people here are so nice they suppoted me everytime and used to explain me everything in detail.I was always worried to see my earnings as that time i was keen to earn money from MYLOT but then with time i found that MYLOT is more for FUN and money is direactly related to it.And then started not to bother for earnings but focused on how to get FUM from MYLOT through participating in the discussions.
And now when i have got my first payment of $25 from MYLOT i am really pleased to see that at least there is something legit which promise and finally pays you.
At the end i suggest you to be more active and try to participate more & more on discussions then only your hesitation will disappear.
Also try to read old discussions of MYLOT you will get plenty of discussioss readymade from there.
