Yes it's true The Philippines might soon be adding 13 million hectares more to her territory, just a little smaller than the size of Luzon. ever heard of Benham Rise? The catch is it's underwater, we are just awaiting the final approval of the United Nations convention on the Law of the sea (Uncos) and some formalities, it is rich in natural gas like methane and who knows the Philippines might be an exporter of natural gas in the future. We are asking that it be declared part of the Philippine shelves and is inclusive of of the 370 mile rule, so we can explore it, and unlike the Spratley's, in the West Philippine seas it has no other claimnants. So what do you think? What's your opinion? read more here http://ph.news.yahoo.com/philippines-may-soon-own-vast-gas-rich-area-035003571.html

Hello Louievill,
I've seen and heard of it, it's kinda big. i thought the only gas deposit that we have is actually ear between visayas and mindanao. the fact is that we have so many resources, we can't afford to waste most of them. as for the fuel resources i only hope that the gas resources would be used and controlled by the FILIPINO OIL FIRMS and NOT FOREIGN. I've read in one of the responses in a discussion that a friend of a mylotters is working in an oil field some where in palawan and those crude are supplied to Australia

I really hope so knight my friend that these time around we maximize our resources, nothing wrong if we bring it wherever, the point is we should be paid fairly ( not saying they are not fair), and another thing, if ever power is found that they take into consideration first the needs of common people like you and me and not keep on selling it to benefit a few.
I was thinking of another thing friend, that's quite fantasy but may become reality, time will come when man will learn to build cities underwater, at least we would have extra prime real estate property and we won't think our country to be small after all, will give us pride

Thanks for the informative news. So currently it is still on the process, well I hope UN will approve our country's declaration. Well if in the future, we will an exporter of natural gas, I really hope that no corrupt people will use this as their source of corruption and evil scheme.

And one more thing, just like one of the comment of a Filipino at yahoo news. In the future, if all went well, I hope that our government would not allow Chinese companies to start and navigate the said explorations even if it is very cheap. We have US, Japan, Europe or Aussie companies to explore the said place, I know it might be expensive but we can guarantee the exploration is genuine and not fake or pirated or something might leak or damage.

like I said it has a good chance of being approved since there are no claimants and all criteria are met as far as we are concerned. I understand your sentiments like most of us, but we have to spearhead exploration cause it's ours and we own it if all things turn out well, but guess it's for the betterment of mankind as a whole so everybody is welcome to invest, let's keep our fingers crossed and remember always to be humble as a people

yep and hope it opens more jobs right at our backyard so we won't have to seek our fortune elsewhere like what most of our countrymen are doing ( I have nothing against them, they want to earn for their family just like you and me) but it would be better if we just all stay put here if there is a way and be under our own rules and laws

When that day come we as a sovereign nation must rejoice and be thankful. We should start now working together united on a common goal and that is to uplift our nation from the bonds that had tied us down. We should act as one people, as one nation. We should start thinking positively about the growth that our sons and daughters will inherit. We should get rid of officials that doesn't serve their purpose. We should do away our hatred and bitterness. We should start showing respect for ourselves. We should start building again. Can we do it? Yes! Can we meet our goals? Yes! Are we ready to take the world? Yes! Who we are... We are Filipinos and I am proud to be one.

It has a good chance to be approved vycess cause there are no other claimants and it meets the criteria of the International law of the sea, could be God's gift to us, who knows after the bullying we got from...umph, on the other side of our map which is obviously also part of our territory again if you will base it on international laws.

It's a chance to be rich again, maybe not only for us but for our children and grand children, better not foul it up this time and manage it well for Filipinos, nothing wrong with getting foreign partners and borrowing capital, but this time we have to study contracts and eliminate corruption so we will get a fair deal.
