I graduated in may 2011 and I have been placed in a MNC as a trainee engineer but the joining dates are yet to come and I am completely free since then. Mylot is a good place to work on but this is not enough. I want to do some extra stuff apart from sleeping to avoid the boredom.
Please friends help me now! I am in utmost need of your suggestions, adhering to which i will get rid of this...

You must have a hobby like everybody else has. Try to spend some time on the Internet, searching for more information about your hobby. Then try to create a site of your own about this hobby of yours. This will occupy all your free time and you won't have time to become bored. Plus you can make some money from your site.
What is your hobby?

Well I do not want to create a blog or website and I am researching about diving so that when my doctor frees me to do anything I want to then I will learn to swim and go for a diving in Goa.

I wanted to go for scuba diving but for that i have to learn swimming first and since it is rainy season now all the pools are closed. If I had known swimming I would have certainly got a PADI scuba diving certification by traveling to goa and taking a niche diving course.
So it is not a right time to pursue this hobby now....

I don´t know how old are you, but maybe you can do some sightseeing or even go to somewhere else for a holiday before you start to work. Later it will be difficult. If you are young it is easy and inexpensive to travel. And you might have family in another city and pay them a visit. What does the place you live have to show you? have you seen it all? That is much better than sleeping or getting boered.
The best cure for boredom is to act.

Actually I am 21 years old and it is a perfect age for me to travel as much as I can do but unfortunately I am advised by my doctor to walk as little as i can do because of a recent foot surgery and So to add to my misery I have to stay home for some time......

Why don´t you do some virtual travelling then? Choose a place and read about it in internet. We are in an era where you can travel even when you can´t go out of the house. I must stay at home except when I go to the hospital for my chemos, yet I´m in touch with the rest of the world through mylot

I've been in that position.
I know how it feels like to graduate, and to want to start working and earning money, and yet placed on hold getting bored out of your mind. Frankly I don't remember how I got through it then as going online wasn't that big then.
I suggest a lot of reading. Go to the library and get some books.
Goodluck!

This is a good option but i am feeling somewhat reluctant to books and also now my parents has started asking me to prepare for higher studies in case the company calls too late or there is a recession.
What can I do. I can either wait or study as if I am not going to join anywhere!

I think you have to do some hobbies or even do some household chores not just you are killing your boredom you had a great exercise as well. You can also watch movies, search something on the internet and even reading can help stimulate your mind and learn at the same time.

You can try working out or going outside. I'd go nature tripping sometimes just to enjoy myself. If all else fails, I'd do some movie marathon or watch some good series to kill time.

If you are an engineer, then you are just in the kindergarten of life! There is so much for you to learn and improve in your chosen field if you and when you look at it closely that you'll still wish you had another lifetime when you are 100!
Gosh! I wish I were 21 with the knowledge and experience that I have in engineering (mechanical, heat, design....) rather than the 50 plus years that I am today - there was so much more I could do ... so many more concepts, ideas, equipment that I could learn and create!....
Read as much as you can about your chosen field, thoroughly assimilate as much knowledge as you can, so that you do your job better than anyone else and improve your prospects in life!
Wish you a life of unbound curiosity young man!

I am refreshed and is ready to go for a job but I feel that there must be something which I should be doing now in the wait of my joining letter.
