Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has declared that he is
prepared to pay £40 million on a new player.
The French tactician has defended his dealings, claiming he
would be happy to spend big money if he could get the men
he wants.
He told Sky Sports News: “I will pay 30 (million) I will even
pay 40 if I find the right players.
“But it’ s not a question of money, it’ s a question of quality
we find. I think I have a wrong reputation of not wanting to
spend money – I do not want to spend money for average
players.”
He added the club have got plenty of scouts all over the
world, saying: “And we are not frightened to spend money
when we think it’ s right.
“Our fans have more reasons to be proud of this club – the
values here, the way the club is run, what the club is built
(upon ) – than being angry with the club.
“Of course we want to deliver trophies, of course we want
to win trophies, who wouldn’ t want (that) ?
“But we feel we were very close last year and my regret of
course is that we didn’ t do it but we are battling on all
fronts and a bit unlucky on all fronts I think.”
shoud we believe with his stetements this time?

wenger was only looking for fresh talents.but his plans failed this time.he thought he would have to add only gervinho which is a good add.but two big blows came his way in the form of departure of fabregas and nasri.i cann't understand why he is not bothered about the arsenal defence which one of the worst in premier league.it is because its poor defence arsenal couldn't win any of the trophies last season. This season arsenal cold consider themselves lucky if they won't finish in the bottom.

Unfortunately he has been saying this for quite some time. But has not really be backing it up with actions. For e.g. when Shay Given was available, the whole of Arsenal fans were shouting take him, but Wenger did not take him. Now we still have a goalkeeping position that is not stable enough. I think Wenger has a bias to spotting midfield talents and on the other parts of the field lacks the vision to spot a talent and his scouts are also not doing a great job of it!!
Cheers!

Yeah, that is a sad true. Arsenal lost some good oportunitties to get good players because Wenger didn't want they. The goalkeeper is one position where Arsenal has a problem for a long time, because even Almunia never was, for me, a reliable goalkeeper.
I think his spots need to help him more, because Arsenal needs some players to define. The current palyers are not bad ones, but they touch too much, but they don't go to define a move.

Like the comment above, Wenger told this for a long time, but never hire a player to Arsenal returns to the glorius time, when the team was second in Champions.
I think Wenger wants to use only young promises, like he did with Fabregas, Nasri and a lot of others, but the problem is that Arsenal can't keep this players after they become real star, like happenned this year, so the team start to have a lot of problems.
Wenger needs to use the Arsenal money to hire players who are decisive for the team, to help the younger ones and capable to define big games, like Ashley Young is doing in United.
