Only people who earns money are successful. Do you agree?

Some people believe that a large income equals success. Some may believe it while others may not. Success is more than how much money you earn. Some of those measures of success include fame, respect, knowledge, contentment and happiness. Some people assume that famous people are rich people thinking that their richness made them famous but that is not always true. Few scientists are rich by today's standard. What do you say?

I don't necessarily think that it's true that success means that you have a lot of money. To me, that's necessarily the meaning of success. Sure, it may be part of the definition of someone who is successful, but being happy, having a loving family, and such may also be a sign of someone who is successful.

Very true, and very well said. To me success is having family, friends, and being happy. That's more important to me.

Earning lots of money cannot always say that he/ she is successful where as we can always say that he or she is successful if he/she is happy as happiness comes when one is contented. Having a good family life would also indicate a great success as you have mentioned. Happy family with less misunderstanding and being able to provide good education to the children.

Hi tenrajj, This is the common notion that rich people are famous people. Money is sort of synonym of Fame. A moneyed man might not be famous unless he does something the society gets benefited. On the other hand poor writer, poets are so famous that the whole world knows him/her. This is the quality of the work towards humanity that makes one famous not piles and piles of money.

I agree with you. All the rich people cannot be famous until he do something benefiting to the society. There are few rich people who are successful. But in such case it is not money that made them successful. Example Bilgrat earns lot and that was due to his hard work and knowledge. Einstein was very successful and he is not famous for being rich.

To me a successful life is being happy, having good health and experiencing good luck. I don't think it has much to do with money. I believe that money makes a person successful. A person needs enough money to live on. Fame is success of a different type like for an actor.

Yea I agree with some of you points. Successful life is being happy is very true and having good health too. Luck may not indicate success, rather luck would bring success. Money makes a person successful may not always be true or money is not necessary condition for somebody to become successful. Fame is not only a indicator of success to some body like actor. Fame shows success of even researchers, scientist and politicians. Even in the school, if a student participates and wins a best debater, then he becomes famous. So his fame indicates his success. This is just a simple example though.

Nobody can go rich without their motivation the desire to earn more, and the willingness to take risks in life and sacrifices can make you rich with effort of hardworking with it, so i guess only successful people become or earn to be a rich, those people have learnt their failures and overcame its worse and so the achievement that standard they are in now is the result of their hardships and strong will to it.

May be you are right with the statement "successful people become or earn to be a rich", but that does not mean that every successful people are rich. There are people who are successful but not very rich. They live up to their hope and expectation. They stay happily.

Success is a relative word. What success means to one person maybe different to another. So, for me, success does not "always" mean large income. imo, success is having freedom of time. However since we're living in a world run by money (you can't do anything without money, unless you want to go back to barter system), a person who would want to do what she wants anytime, have to have some kind of income to support it.

Different people think in different way and so there for success might be different for different people. In this context you are very right. Freedom could be one of the possible indicator for success for some people. Their freedom would show how they have struggled before. Money may bring comfort to us but money does not necessarily indicate success.

No not really, but success in anyones opinion could be or mean different things, But when most people think of success they think of wealthy people. so if someone earns a lot of money and they think they are a success then they are a success.

Yea some thinks that earning money means a success. It may be true for some but not for everybody. Some people who does not earn huge can be also successful. Money is not the correct indicator of success.

I guess that would be your first thoughts as it is mine. However I do know that when you have much money you actually spend more on more bills and the upkeep of your day to day life. Keeping up to the standard of a rich persons lifestyle may put them no further ahead than the next person with small income just keeping bills paid. But when it comes to all the personal ideals that are layed out. I am not the kind of person that thinks a person with money is any better than the next person shopping at the grocery store. In fact I tend to view them as snobby. Not all of course, but the ones that portray that they are a better person simply for the high ticket items they can buy or the car that they can drive. I am thinking scientists might not be rich, since they spend much of their money on supplies for their experiments and such. But to me they are much richer in personality.

Appreciation for your response. Yea you are right. Successful people does not necessarily earn huge income. One of the most indicator of the success in knowledge. Wealthy people do not know all the answers. Successful people would have succeeded having acquired lots of knowledge and experiences.

Though one might see that a person who has a lot of money, a big house a nice car as successful, I do not see it that way. Success cannot be measured by money alone or by material things. There are other who do not measure success by money alone. Its all up to the person. There are those that are successful in their plans in their dreams and aspirations without necessarily being rich.

I know a lot of wealthy people and even more people with lower incomes, on the border of poverty. I've found that the more wealthy friends tend to be more conceited and complain about their lot in life, even if they aren't putting in a day's worth of sweat to earn it. I hate excess and as long as my basic needs continue to be met, I'm content. At the jobs where I've made larger payrolls, I noticed changes in myself. I became more greedy. No thanks! (:

Yea you are right. That is what I always have been saying. Wealthy people worry a lot. They strive a lot. They first suffer to accumulate wealth, then they strive to secure it and finally they are worried about it getting exhausted. Wealthy people are never contented no matter how they became wealthy. Coming to the subject,I believe that being respected by coworkers indicates success. Without that respect, money means little. For example, I once did some work for a great business person in my place. He was making lots of money. But he was not a nice man. No one did ever work for him willingly. He ordered every one around and they did not respect him. In contrast, how ever I had a wonderful principal in the high school. He had to take extra job just to make enough money to support his family. However his students had great respect for him and always listened to what he said. As a result, the school was ranked high. So that is success.

I definitely don't think that it takes money to consider yourself to be successful. I don't work outside the home and I really don't make a lot of money, but I still consider myself to be successful because of the fact that I'm the mother of two wonderful and very well-adjusted children. In addition to that, I've also got a great and supportive husband and great friends that always have my back. Those are the things that I think are important to be successful in life.

Success is something that is very much in the eye of the beholder. While its difficult to argue that earning some amount of money is considered a success by some people, that is not the only way to measure success. Some people would consider getting married, having a family, and living a rather comfortable life to be a success. Others would consider getting an education. Others would consider just having a job at all to be a success, especially one they like. In the end, success is very much something that is in the eye of the beholder. It really can vary from person to person to say the very least. There are many times where it does in fact seem like success is not something that many would consider to be success. however it really does depend on their own goals. The scientist example is really interesting, as a new discovery that travels untested ground for example would be considered to be a grand success by many.

Success does not have a monetary value. I think that success may come in the way we deal with life, it could be success with our marriage, or success with having good health. It could be other than money. Success comes when we have achieved what we wanted and we improved ourselves as a human being.

I think not all the rich peoples r successful in life. Because rich peoples & poor peoples r two different things. Similarly successful persons & non successful persons r two different types of peoples. A person who work hard in his own life will finally get the success

I would probable say wealth is the most important thing i prefer in life not in mylot. Because i got so many insults because im not getting wealthy among my fello members but i say im good in knowledge when compared to my some friends. But im not able to be in the first to be equal to them. Its not sure that knowledge one wil earn money and rich man should had knowledge. I prefer wealth more than knowledge .

Everyone defines success differently. That said, if you enjoy what you do in life and are comfortable with your lifestyle (i.e. house, car, time with family and so forth), then you are successful. There are many people that go to school forever to attain a degree in a field with minimal pay while others go to school forever to make a lot of money. I am in the middle income bracket and have minimal debt and a good life. Do I consider myself successful? Yes, because I am happy with what I have and continue to achieve and live a comfortable life with my family. To each of you, I wish success =)
