For what the hospital is meant- for treatment or for hospitality?

A number of private hospitals are going to be set up in India which will provide five- star facilities to the patients admitted into those hospitals in addition to quality treatment which they have been discharging for years. Obviously the services would be more costly than before. Do you support this move by the management of those private hospitals? I do not because I believe a hospital is meant for treatment and not for hospitality. What’s your opinion?

What happened to the oathe that doctors take? I can see that private hospitals and set up their facilities any way they like but within guidelines. It is very sad to see that things are going this way. Medical facilities and doctors have sure changed over the years. My grandmother was our family doctor when I was growing up and for most minor ailments it was fine. It sure wouldn't go over well these days.

The oath taken by the doctors still now remains the same and these types of private hospitals are usually set up by big business men and not by doctors who are nothing but paid employees of those hospitals.

Dear DoctorDidi! You are saying that number of Hospitals are going to be setup ? They have already started and running very successfully! The big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore etc have such hospitals who are providing five star facilities to the patients!
Yes, these hospitals are not meant for poor people! These hospitals are meant for those people who are real rich and have the five star life styles! It is not really possible for such people to go to ordinary hospitals and have the treatment done there! Under such circumstances I have seen people converting one of the rooms as the ICU and hiring doctors and nurses to look after the patient! This OK, so far! But if such patients who can afford and have five star life style shift them selves to some other country as they are not getting bare minimum facilities for them then we would be loosing lot of exchequer to foreign countries!
Today because of such Hospitals India is doing a fantastic business in Medical field as we are getting a lot of patients from other countries including America, to have the treatment in India as they are getting the similar treatment here at almost at half the cost with all the facilities! Many a times people are making India your and they are combining their treatment along with it1 Several surgeries are being done in India where the patients are from abroad and they are really happy with the results! As far as the proficiency of Indian Doctors working in such units is concern I am sure that they are no way less than any doctor abroad! This I can say for sure as I have got couple of my Cousins working foe such Hospitals one is a cardiac Surgeon and another is Cancer expert (Oncologist)!
Thus I think let us not look this progress with negativity, instead let us appreciate that by providing such Hospitals we are providing good facility to our own patients who can really afford to do so, thus saving the money flow to foreign countries and secondly because of these Hospitals India is getting lot of foreign money into the country! Thanks for the interesting discussion!

But what about the standard of medical treatment provided by them? There are many adverse reports regarding their treatment of patients. So I think they would give more attention to the standard of medical treatment without thinking too much about the 5-star facilities.

Hello DoctorDidi! There may be some stray cases which might have happend here and there which must have caught the attention of media! such cases are blown out of proportion1 As a doctor we can understand one thing very well that - No doctor on the surface of this World wants his/her case to get spoiled! Every one try their level best to save t life of a patient! Here in such big hospitals since the money is no criterion they will turn no stone unturned to achieve success! If needed they will get the recent medicines and expertise from any corner of the World to save the patients! So I think here the standard of medical treatment is far superior than the normal hospitals and the mortality rat is also quite low! Just think today the patients are being carried in private helicopters which are acting as ambulances and saving the lives, which was simply a dream few years to back ! No body could even have thought about it! So progress in the medical field in the country like India is always welcome as we have hard working, talented, sincere people who have a natural flair for such work and to achieve success! Thanks !

I agree to a certain extent where a hospital is for treatment but along with the treatment there has to be some hospitality. An ailing patient in a bad not so hospitable environment would not heal well. As along the healing process there has to be some comfortable surrounding.

Good environment and maintenance are part and parcel of a good hospital. They never demand the hospital to be maintained like a five-star hotel.

This kind of hospitals provide good services and they are normally afforded by rich people and not by common people...
I agree with you that hospitals are for treatment but clean hygiene is the first thing to be looked by hospital staff so increasing of such hospitals is not a bad move and prices might slowly decrease in the name of competition but decreasing of prices in medical sector sounds impossible.....

I think that cleanliness and maintenance of proper hygiene have nothing to do with 'five-star' facilities because these are the basic things which need to be maintained always by any hospital any where in this world. If these are not maintained, it is not worthy of being called a hospital in the true sense of the word.

For being very clean and very accommodating, a hospital never requires to provide 'five-star' facilities to the patients admitted into it.

What does more exactly "five-stars facilities" refer to? Because if we are talking about lastest medical technology, then I must say, I totally agree with it. Also, good living conditions (and here I mostly talk about hygiene)are always highly recommended.
Everything else added, which has no connection to medical services and transforms the hospital into a luxurious hotel is useless and should be condamned.
Medical care is for everyone, according to human rights and social behaviour. Nobody should forget that, let alone India, a religious and traditionalist country.
I hope this problem will be solved, because life is more important that luxury.

For your kind information, "five-stars facilities" mean the facilities available in a "five-star hotel". It has no connection at all with the medial facilities for which a patient is admitted in a hospital.

I think that the hospitality in a hospital is just as important as is the medical treatments that patients receive while they are in the hospital. I worked in a local hospital when I was a little bit younger and one of the things that really drove me nuts was the fact that the patients weren't always treated with the respect that I think people deserve. With that said, I think that people that are patients in hospitals should be treated with hospitality and also medical treatments, but I don't think that is something that you should have to pay more to receive.

5 star facilities? that sounded like a hotel or so
i think as long as the quality service is there it will be fine or better knowing that the facilities would seem really better
on the other hand, there should also be more accommodations for those who cannot afford the cost so that there is a fair treatment

Yes, as claimed by these hospital authorities, they will provide their patients with best medical services along with 5 star facilities of a hotel.

First, they are for treatment. Then, they can be for hospitality. Treatment need to be combined with taking a rest. So, good facilities for patients is not problem. Right?
