or just open a bottle? I am asking this because, a few years ago, I went to a friend´s house and he had the most awful cramps in both of his legs. I ran to the fridge where I had seen a gorgeous bottle of orange juice and placed some in a bg glass. As I was taking it, it occured to me to read the contents. There was no orange juice there but corn syrup and additives for taste and colour. That juice I was giving has not a bit of potassiom which he needed. Do you check what you are eating and drinking? Now I check before buying and I prefer to make orange juice from real oranges.

i always make sure to read the labels before I buy something. I try to check if there is too much fat or sugar in it. I love juice too and I drink orange juice with my breakfast most of the time. If I cannot be able to make one from fresh orange myself, I buy one with 100 percent orange and less or no sugar in it.

I started reading labels after my husband started with diabetes. It seemed at ne time that everything in the world had sugar. So I started making a lot of things from scratch. They turned out much better and a lot more healthy.

Good for you Gavrilovich. If it´s the drink you have, then it must be ok to sell.. But fruit juices are fine if they are really what you think they are.

I actually don't really drink juice in the mornings. And even if I do, I don't make mine but just pour it from some bottle in the fridge. Mom tries and makes me, sis and bro drink healthy juices that she blends like tomato and carrot and whatever but I will never even go near them. They smell so-not-flattering and really doesn't even taste close to good I know they are healthy but I will not drink them. Beside those I love the banana shakes and orange juices when it's their season

I´m sorry you don´t like real juices. Do you like real fruit? Because if you eat fruit, there is no problem if you don´t drink fruit juices. But they have lots of vitamins and minerals and taking a vitamin pill is not the same.

I can see that! I prefer carrot juice to carrots myself. And you haven´t tastes the tomatoes I grow at home! They have quite a different taste from the tomatoes you buy at the super.

Yep I do like real fruits and vegetables I love eating carrots but I just don't like it when it's carrot juice. And I don't really like tomatoes, but I think it tastes fine in a sandwich or when cooked. I can't eat it raw though Hehe I'm a pretty picky eater hehe.

Hi, marguicha. I don't make my own morning juice. I have always wanted to though. I will make sure that any juice that I may drink from now on has potassium in it. This is an essential mineral that aids in strong bones and teeth. I know that I have been drinking orange juice that may have, Vitamin D and Calcium in it though. I hope that your friend's legs are feeling so much more better now.

Orange juice is perfect for potassium and so is wonderful to eat a banana. I am sure that if we stick to fruits instead of artificial juices, our health will be a lot better.

i always wanted to have orange juice or any other fruit juices in the morning instead of coffee. but the thing is prohibited in the house. my wife doesn't want anyone in the family, especially the school kids to have cold drinks in the morning. so if ever we take cold drinks like orange juice, i only make juice from instant powdered juice being sold here in sachets which can make about a liter of juice drink.

i agree with the vitamins, powdered juices don't have vitamins and it can only quench our thirst. i still take coffee in the morning even without solid food for breakfast.

Those powered juices don´t have the kind of vitamins real juices have. It can quench yout thirst though although in that case, I prefer a morning coffee.

Hi marguicha, I know it's healthier to make my own juice, but being the lazy bum , I always buy bottles, and I rarely read the labels. I just make sure I buy the reliable brands and check the place where it is manufactured.

I also buy reliable brands but have found that it is not enough. They sell a product and it´s up to you if it´s the one you need or not. The oil with a sunflower in the picture is not 100% sunflower unless it says so in the label. The picture does not imply what its contents are.

Some reliable brands with beautiful pictures of oranges are made with corn syrup and artificial flavour. Check it once and then buy the good one later on.

I agree, pictures are just so misleading! That's why there's a phrase "a picture can speak a thousand words". I think I do not really bother about all these ingredients and percentages and stuff but I should start taking note.

Fresh juice is always the best. Sometimes i do buy juice from shopping marts. I usually go for the 100% real juice. I don't know if it is really 100% but at least it gives me the satisfaction that there may not be too many preservatives.

I´m afraid of all sorts of additives to preserve and to add color. They are all artificial.

I don't really make orange juice in the morning but I like it though. Just that I'm lazy to prepare the juice. I usually make orange juice from powder form.

That might taste good, but it doesn´t have any oranges except for the artificual flavour. There are other bottled or concentrated juices (a lot more expensive) that are made from oranges.

I've been reading labels religiously for over a year now. Before that, I read most labels but let some things slide. But, since I noticed that one "juice" that I would sometimes buy contained ONLY 10% juice, I started reading all labels. It must have 100% juice, no preservatives and nothing artificial or I won't buy it. I would prefer to make my own juice every morning but I simply do not have the energy. Luckily, we have some packaged juice here that is 100% juice and nothing else. It even comes in three ways: no pulp, regular pulp and extra pulp. When I see the extra pulp, that's what I buy, otherwise it's the regular. It's as close to fresh-squeezed as it gets without being fresh-squeezed.

It seems that rading labels is the only way we have if we want to get the right food. After that orange juice that had corn syrup and artificial flavour, I will not fall again for a nice colour or picture.

With the kids, there is definitely not time to make my own juice. However, when I am buying juice for them. I will make sure that I'm getting them 100 percent juices because I know that those are far better for them than to get juice cocktails. Besides that, there are many different options of 100 percent juices that both the kids and my husband and I all really enjoy. We don't have one specific flavor that we always keep in the house.

Of course we all should be more circumspect about what we buy. Often labels are also misleading. Freshly made orange juice is best. Most of us rush out the door at breakfast time, eat a quick lunch at work, then may even eat dinner out. Many experts say to just eat the whole fruit rather than even have the juice, cause you theoretically know what you are eating.

Labels can be VERY misleading. Many juices with a beautiful orange on the label will have not a single drop of the fruit. In my country they sell many oils with a sunflower on the label, but is you read the label it´s just any vegetable oiil that can be very unhealthy. I prefer to spend more on that and use less oil to make up, but cook with good oil. Same with juices and a lot of other things.

Hi. Thanks for reminding us to read labels of what we drink. Sometimes, just because it taste good doesn't mean that it's very healthy for us. The best thing really are the fresh juice we get from fresh fruits.

Even though fresh juices are the best, you can have god bottled juices if you take care of reading the labels. The best, of course, is fresh.

But if you bmust buy your juice, it´s just a matter of reading the label when you are buying. It can be done the first time and then remember what is the juice you should put into your cart.

Hi marguicha.. Okay.. firstly may I ask- If your friend has cramps in his legs, why would you run to the fridge LoL..? Was it to give them the juice?.. Anyway.. the ingredientrs of the juice you described- pretty gross.. Personally when buying anything- I do check the ingredients (*especially when its supposed to be for example 100% BEEF*).. I have been shopping for foods such as Chicken Burgers and have found that they only contain 30% chicken and the rest is water and a load of other rubbish.. so this is why I always check.. I do tend to make alot of my food and beverages from fresh ingredients..but the products I do buy from the shops- I have to check a majority of them because of the reason above.. (",)

I run to get the juice, of course. I only know of 2 ways to help with cramps if the person won´t let me touch him/her. One is oranges, another is bananas. I agree with you about buying but I was staying there as a visitor. I would not have that at my home.

I usually buy orange and mango pure juice with not sugar added but still find it very sweet so I dilute it with water...but I much prefer to make my own when I have fresh fruit available...now as a source of potassium I like to have a banana every day.

That´s wonderful, friend. Real fruit is the best way and second best is a juice that you already know what its contents are. Bananas are known for theit amount of potassium. And they are awesome too.

Yes, I read as much as possible the contents of the drinks I buy for consumption at home. I especially look for potassium now and I could find that in a low-fat milk called "Slim" which I buy regularly.

I don't just read the content I check everything about the country it came from and what the company stands for. I make most things I consume, it is a bit easier for me because i live in South America and everyone had lots of fruit trees in their yard. We have a saying, when every we pass a yard and don't see trees in it, we say their grave will be cold like their hearts because they didn't plant a tree in the earth. I know you might find it weird, but we have abundance of land so anyone who doesn't plant is either very lazy or cold hearted.

I live in a city so we don´t have much land as in the country. But still I have my apricot tree and my children have other trees in their backyards. I also grow part of my veggies. None of us has oranges, but we share our bounty in Summer.
