Patent Wars!!

If youve havent noticed every few days or so there have been companies like apple,google,samsung, suing each other for taking ideas from there designs. apple and htc especially. google recently bought motorola mobility. whats everyone think on this whole subject, are smartphone companies going a little overboard and greedy?

i honestly don't understand much about patent and intelectual property rights. If i were Newton and today i invent the law of gravity. is that mean everything in this world which use my gravity law have to pay me something? in this case God must pay newton because he use this law of gravity on the country where i register my intelectual rights.
