My student came in late and she blamed her own self for being lazy. She's very passionate in studying and she's a very diligent student. But lately she's been very lazy. She's on summer vacation and she hasn't been studying and she's blaming herself!
When we are lazy to whom do we blame it? Do we blame the weather? In my country most Filipinos would blame the humidity of the weather. I too do that sometimes. I blame the rain, i blame the typhoon and i can go on and on!

Blaming others will not solve the problem...Me too sometimes put the blame to others but I found it never solved the problems but remained there. So what is the problem and who's fault it that?? FOr sure the answer is myself. If I change it then everything will change as well. So no use use of blaming this and there Regretting the past then continue blaming the past and the present...Now whenever issue I get in I will start asking to blame myself first. It will avoid the fight and argument. Better blaming the self..if it's clearly other's fault then let them settle it by themselves. So your student did the right thing blaming herself for it and make sure she did the right thing to fixed the problem out.(^^)

True. That's why i didn't blame her anymore because she did already!
What i did was to encourage her so that she doesn't have to blame her own self anymore.
What you said are all true. I don't blame other people for my laziness but i owe it to the weather!

You are a teacher, so you know better than anyone how a young person's brain works, its needs and desires.
I personally think that since we're talking about a summer holiday, you should definitely not blame your poor student. If she is eminent, as you told us, then she probably studies hard a lot. And for a young person, a holiday is very important. So from my humble point of view, she is probably mnore tired than lazy. Moreover, you did not tell us her age, which is important. :)
We cannot blame lazyness on something else but ourselves. The weather has a physical impact, which makes us weak, not lazy. Lazyness comes from the brain. We can either fight it, or not. I think we need strenght for that. :)

I'm not blaming her at all! There's no more room for me to blame her as she has done all the blaming to herself!

We are to blame ourselves for our laziness. We are actually very smart and find out the ways to blame others.

There is no such thing as laziness. It sounds to me like depression. She had better find out soon what is really bothering her.

If there is no such thing as laziness, why is it defined in the dictionary? And why is it an adjective?

when i'm lazy, i blame myself for being lazy.. but i'm generally lazy because i am tired, or sore.. i suffer from bad back and neck pain, if i'm sitting for too long, or standing for too long.. and lack of sleep makes it worse! ..
i do blame being lazy on being tired.. but then again, i'm always tired because i'm usually up late doing things, and then up early for work.. and i guess i blame my partner for me not getting enough sleep at night. she doesn't work so she can lay in until like lunch time if she wants to, and then can sit up all night if she wants, wheras i can't.. but i want to sit up and talk with her, watch films with her, whatever.. so i try and push myself to stay awake!
i asked her, that when she see's me getting tired, order me to go to bed! .. she did it once and it worked and i'd the best nights sleep, but she said she missed me lol! so now i'm back to sitting up again.
i think it's hard, when we are lazy and have no motivation, the less and less we do, the lazier we actually get, to the point where we are so lazy and lacking in motivation, it's hard to even search for motivation.. if the girl could get excited about something, that may help. i also found in school, and now in work, when i have problems with my social life, i become very complacent. maybe shes having problems?

Oh yeah that student has a problem indeed. She doesn't have much friends in and out of school because she prefers studying than enjoying. She thinks her school teachers aren't good for her and she's much better, but she gives high respect for me. For some reason i'm the only teacher she listens to. She has given up studying English language in an institute as she thinks the teachers there are teaching her the wrong way, and she thinks i'm the only one who can handle her.
She blames her own self for being lazy as she spends more time exercising now rather than putting her nose in her books!

Maybe you should have a wee look though and see if she is showing any signs of depression or anxiety etc! especially since she is exercising but still feels lazy, because you of all people, Running Queen, should know that when you exercise you actually get MORE energy, therefore should her exercising not be making her less lazy? Are you one of the youngest teachers? That could be why she respects you so much, because you are on a level with her!

Some times, when there is nothing interesting to do, then we get bored and get lazy. One then has to find some thing interesting and exciting. May be a hobby to enjoy, instead of getting stuck in the bad weather. May be an online game, like Collapse or Bingo !

I understand. I have been procrastinating a lot lately. Usually I do not procrastinate. I don't really know what to blame it on other than the fact that I messed my sleeping schedule all up and now all I want to do is just sleep. I don't even feel like I usually do because I am getting up in the middle of the day and trying to get all my homework done. Also it is summer and the heat does make me lazy. I also think I am wore out from the babysitting job that I had for about three months. Now I just want to relax and have free time because I didn't have much free time when I was babysitting. At least I am getting my school work done on time and not having late assignments. I just wish my daily routine was a bit better than it is now.

i agree that most of us blame the weather that we get lazy to move.
but i don't feel this often.
even when it rains and have to do things that would be beneficial to the family, i forget to feel lazy.

Well at least this student put the blame where it should have been instead of another area. There are just a lot of students who would find any number of excuses to really try and defer responsibility away from the person that is in fact the one that is responsible. Granted there are many factors that can make us seem and feel lazy but there are many things that are going to push us above.
There are just a lot of times where we just need to push ourselves past the things that are making us lazy. I think that in the end, there are just a lot of distractions. Thus our motivation for doing the things that we need to do, well it gets slightly skewed to say the very least. Readjusting the ship to a way that will help us, that is truthfully what we can do. Still in the end, while there are many things that create laziness, but we are the ones who choose to see how much they affect us.

Human nature, isn't it? I myself is a student and I suffer from the blame from my own heart as well. Every time after I waste time on some meaningless activities, I critisise myself hardly, and swear not to do it again, but next time when I enjoy a holiday, I will follow the same old disastrous road. Maybe on holiday we can relax, but never overdo it, otherwise we will regret a lot,not only at that time, also in the long future.

If I'm lazy so I myself am guilty. But I think that external climate can take influence on the people. However each one can react different to these external events. There are people who are working in the hotness and others under bad weather. In summer people trend to go out with friends and enjoy life on the beach, on the city, on the country or by travelling.

i read an article regarding laziness before and what i recall was that laziness would be due to genetics, health problems, depressions, obesity, medicines, weather, etc! so when laziness attacks you dont blame your self, blame the situation you're xperiencing.. lol
