This was for my sister, she is almost 30 years now and last week she has a swell on her face. She had much pain and difficult to swallow. The doctor said, its problem with teeth and so consult dentist. When she checked with dentist, she was surprised to hear she has a new wisdom teeth growing only now and that caused the pain and swell. She was given medication and suggested for an extract. Now the swell is normal and no pain, but she worried about extracting! Does any one faced this problem? Is this common?

Hi Besthope
It is my understanding that is is not rare for someone not to have the wisdom tooth completely out until at least 25 years old. I was one of those that suffered since the age 20 through 27 before they had to be extracted. I went through a lot of swelling and pain. I was told that it was still yet to come out and that mine simply required more time.
Sadly at age 27, I was going through a lot more swelling and a great deal of pain, so I went to see the dentist and it was found that the roots were wrapped in my jaw causing them not to grow out normal. So they had to dig them out. Ouch! But thereafter I never had a problem with them again. Thankfully!

Hi HWG, I can really feel how your pain would have been.. Nice to hear that removal can get rid of the pain and you felt a great relief. Will inform this to her too..
She recently had her bridges on the front canine, so i was in doubt if that caused some changes on her teeth as i never had wisdom problem. So age is not a surprise!
Thanks HWG, I was totally unaware of these teeth and after u shared your experience, i can understand very well..what and how and the solution! Cheers!!

Woah.. I'm scared now. I haven't grown my final wisdom tooth and my jaw is all filled up already. If it does pop out, I have to get it immediately removed or else it will damage my entire jaw as it tries to occupy space. My uncle grew a random wisdom tooth in his upper jaw when he had already grown all of his teeth. Don't know where the tooth came from.

I feel sorry for the pain she is going through. I hate teeth pain worse than anything. I had my wisdom teeth taken out way before my 30's. I'm not sure if that is common or not with what your sister is going through.

You underwent with extracting the wisdom teeth too..yes she stopped eating a day as she couldnot swallow even her saliva. Now she feels better and the swell is reduced. Dentist say its common and she is going weekend to get it extracted. Hope she dont have any problems after that!

Most people have wisdom teeth and some have to have them removed when they are young, (Mine was taken out when I was in my teens) and some don't have to have them out until they are older, like my husband was 28 when his was taken out..
Yet, did you know some people don't have all 4 wisdom teeth? People are jealous of my daughter, who when she went in and had to have a bad molar pulled, it turned out she only had 2 wisdom teeth and the one won't have to be removed because it will replace the molar she lost. So if she has any problems, she will only have 1 wisdom tooth pulled.
I can't remember mine experience well, but my husband had all 4 removed and I won't sugar coat it, it was a nightmare. But that could have been him too, he always had problems with dentists, whereas I can go in for a root canal and have no problems, my husband can't even go in for a cleaning without some disaster..
So it depends on the patient and the dentist. If your sister has a really good dentist and has had no problems previously, then she shouldn't be too worried. Yes it won't be fun, but it doesn't have to be a nightmare either..

Oh you are right carmelanirel..since i haven't experienced it, my sister had a nightmare. And my parents feared that she had pox or mumps like. And you pointed it right, a good dentist is can change the nightmare!

Wow that's awful news. I've met many people who had bad experiences with wisdom teeth, that's a bummer that she has to face her wisdom tooth once more. I am one of the lucky few who will never (hopefully) face those wisdom teeth. I've received X-rays and been confirmed that wisdom teeth are not part of my bone structure. I can only imagine her pain, but hopefully she can get it removed soon so she feels better. Jello for a Month ^^.

Oh you are so lucky really! And so am I, but i can really feel her pain. So i understand its common about wisdom teeth and age is not surprising? rite! Now will there be any complications removing this wisdom teeth, thats the next doubt? But its better for her to remove, so she can eat well without pain.
