thinking of quitting my blog & starting anew

Yeah, you read it write. I am seriously thinking about quitting the blog I have now, and maybe start a new one. I am (okay, "was") a mommy blogger. I have only one blog. I used to blog about anything and everything about my family and my child. And it's been a month now since my last entry/ post. I suddenly felt that I shouldn't be blogging too much about myself and my family. We have facebook and twitter to "showcase" the goings-on in our lives. Anyway, I feel that I shouldn't "expose" my family's life anymore than I already have. No biggie, really. It's just parties we attended, movies we watched, and stuff like that. I used to enjoy it. Until I no longer find any joy in what I'm doing. I'm seriously thinking that I am violating my own privacy. I'm thinking of starting a new one. But I'm still not sure about that too. For now...I just want to lay low and seriously think about and consider what I want to do. For now, I just want to play with my daughter, read to her more, do fun stuff with her, instead of blogging about her. For now, I just want to relax, check my emails, do my mylotting tasks, and tend to my family.

Don't jump to a decision. EVERY blogger goes through this period of feeling "meh" about the whole thing. Post an entry that says you're on hiatus (for any followers, so they know why you're gone) and suggest they subscribe so they get notification if/when you come back. Then go take your time out. If you decide you want to come back to it, it'll still be there. No need to rush off and delete everything or start new ones or whatever.

I know. I have actually gone on "blogging hiatus" a couple of times already. But it's kind of different nowadays. I don't know. That's why I need to step away first and figure things out. I do agree with you that I owe my followers some sort of an explanation. I'll think about that too. Thanks Spike. :)

I guess every mom would come into the crossroad of wanting to tell everybody about their baby, and wanting to preserve their own privacy! And like you said, Facebook has more or less taken that role, as you only want certain people to know about everything that happens to your family. I hope mylot can be that avenue for you to release all that writing energy that I'm sure is still within you.

Enjoy this time with your daughter! When they are young, is also the time they develop their personalities. So I'm sure you'd appreciate it later on when you realize that you've had a big hand in developing that! And thanks for the BR!

Exactly my friend! You took the words right out of my mind and mouth. And yes...Mylot is definitely a welcome release. Either I put up a new hobby blog...or just ditch blogging entirely and just concentrate on Mylot...who knows? I just know that I'm enjoying spending more time with my daughter now, whereas before...I was too busy to ACTUALLY play with her because I was busy blogging about her and our family and updating my blog.

That sounds really nice, relaxing with your family. I think you should do it. Your blog will always be there if you wanna come back to it. Or you can convert it to a hobby blog - same address, different content. Privacy is the most important thing especially with all the identity theft happening.

But you can always write when you have freetime. I am sure you can't just turn your back from writing. If it is your passion, you will always have the urge to write and words will be flooding in your mind as well. Anyway, enjoy your baby and have a great weekend ahead jaiho®

That's the thing...I always have free time. I'm a stay-at-home mom. Aside from taking care of my daughter, playing with her, reading books/ novels, and checking my email, there's really nothing else that I do. Blogging used to take up most of my time. Now, I know I'm being lazy. The computer is free most of the time. Sigh! I know I will get back to blogging someday. I'm just not so sure about going back to my blog. :)

You haven't said it outright but blogging can be incredibly boring! And even more so for the people who read them! Privacy is another matter. What should go on a blog and what is kept a family secret often gets blurred. You write something just because you can't think of anything else to write. Later you realize that was a mistake. Yes, it's time to quit, for good!

It's not boring in the sense that I got to meet other mothers and bloggers via my blog site. I got to read and even listen to people's varied perspective on many issues like parenting, current events, politics, books, etc. I think I've already stated my take on privacy. So no use expounding on this. But I disagree about quitting blogging per se. You can blog about a lot of things -- like cooking, or reviewing restaurant establishments, books/novels, the entertainment industry, current events, and what-have-you. It just doesn't have to be about my family. I know we will agree on that at least! :)

That is what I actually meant by quitting. Personal blogs about you and your family are not good. But a blog about a hobby or interest is good. It gives you an outlet to escape your family for a few minutes at least, which I'm sure will be most welcome at times.

As what our other mylot friends have suggested, I can put up a hobby blog. I love to eat, eat out, watch movies, travel, etc. It doesn't have to be about my family anymore, and I won't have to post photos of me, my hubby, my daughter, my relatives, etc. any longer. I think it will work. As to when I will start this new blog? I really don't know. For now, I'm just REALLY enjoying motherhood....now more than ever. :)

That's alright maybe you can blog about other things. Why don't you try to learn about niche marketing. This way you can earn more money online.

Blog about other things...that's exactly what I plan to do. I just haven't figured out what yet. I keep seeing the term "niche marketing" for quite awhile now, I'll make sure to look it up. Blogging was more of an outlet (to practice writing) for me. I was and am not really in it for the money. But if the blog takes off, "monetarily-speaking", then I will be perfectly fine with that. But I really doubt it since I only use blogspot and don't plan on having my own domain. :D

My blogs are not at all focused on what my family does. My blogs usually contain my rants and observations about what's happening in my community. Sometimes they are just too personal in the sense that I am only expressing a personal opinion which has no connection whatsoever with what the rest of my family thinks about the same issue.

That's how mine started. Rants, observations, opinions. Then I don't know exactly when it changed. All of a sudden, I'm just like stating names, relations, etc., then posting photos, informing readers which person was my husband, my daughter, my siblings. Ugh! Just writing about it here, scares me. I'm now shaking my head from regret. :(

Just this morning i was thinking of starting my blog as a mom but nothing personal. Just my experience being with a smart son and how he would make me laugh with his little humor. You might be right if you think that you are exposing your private life too much. It's only recently that i realized how important privacy in the net is, so i'm being careful with what i post.

Hi miad! It's natural to sometimes get tired of the usual things we do,I for one is experiencing it. I just felt sometimes that I need a break from all of my online works and just take full time at home with my kids and myself. But for sure you will come back to it,hehe! You can always make another blog if you want miad and I'm sure it's going to be another hit just like your first blog. What Spike(your first replier) said is right. Since you have followers already in your blog,it is their right to know that you're going to take a break so they wont wonder why you suddenly went out. Enjoy your time with your family!

As I just told our friend Spike, I have actually taken a break from blogging a couple of times. Some as long as 2 or 3 months if I remember correctly. However, this time it feels different. I'm not quitting blogging, mind you. I just feel that it's time to quit this particular blog I have now. I feel it has run its course. But I agree, with you...I owe it to my followers and readers to explain why. That, I still have to think about carefully. :)

I'm not giving up on blogging. Blogging is more of a release for me. What I'm simply giving up is my personal/mom blog. I will most likely start a new one. One entirely different blog and one that will not show my family and what we were up to. :)
