Do you plan a holiday

I have a big weekend coming up getting almost 5 days holiday. My partner and i are planning to go to a place of tourist interest. So i have already started searching for hotel, booking tickets for travel and looking up the place.
But i still remember when i was in college my friends and i just got up one morning and decided to go for a day trip. We just packed some water, snacks and just set off. I did not even know the place we were going to and just followed my friends.
Nowadays i cannot even think about doing something like that.
Do you guys plan a trip in advance or is it just pack a bag and set off and search for everything later.

I hope that you will have a fantastic time on your five day holiday. I like to read travel guide books about the region or country that I wish to visit. I have to make sure that accommodation there is affordable. Then I book my flight or my book my train tickets. Next I book my accommodation if it is going to be busy in my destination. I rarely pack a bag and set off without any planning. I get the best flight prices six months in advance. I book train tickets a month or two in advance. I have a Family and Friends Rail Card to get discounted train tickets.

I have not gone on a long holiday for quite some time now, with my full-time job keeping me so busy. Of course, depending on where one plans to go, one has to take along all the essentials. For me, if I go on a long holiday, I would make sure that I have all the medicaments I have to regularly take. That's for sure. Then, the destination and travel related clothings and papers.
