Whoopee!!
If you remember Mum was being dismissed - basically, for being 65 so she decided to fight her case due to the fact there was not enough notice given, etc. In actual fact she'd received correspondence this week regarding her Employment Tribunal date so, obviously "the other side" would've had this as well.
Mum received a telephone call yesterday from one of the ladies in the Council office, telling her that she should come to a meeting today. Apparently, this lady (Christine) was very friendly so it did make me wonder as another person at the meeting was an Employment Disputes officer.
Mmmm!
Anyway, Mum rang me before and told me SHE'S GOT HER JOB BACK!! The Employment Disputes Officer said, "Your employers have got their procedures wrong regarding this, therefore we are offering you your job back..do you accept?!" Not arf!
It won't necessarily be at Boundary where she's worked before but it WILL be a Cook's job. Even if it's fewer hours she's not bothered. All she wants is the school to be within bike-riding distance (otherwise she would need a lift) and she's not keen on Senior Schools either. Other than that she'll work anywhere lol.
Oh my! This proves Mum was right all along. Granted, she may well have won her case at the Employment Tribunal BUT - as Mum said herself, she may not have done and be back to square one financially.
She told me it's a good job she didn't write a letter to the local paper slagging everyone off..she was about to!
Oh, and by the way, Steve (her boss) has been on holiday since the last day of term. I wonder if he knows. Haha!
Have you received any brilliant news lately?

That is great news Jane! I have been following the drama of your mum and her work and did not think that she would get it back!
Does your mum know that so many people from all over the world have been following her plight?
I just got a text saying that I am required on set to work as an extra on a movie tomorrow. This is not exactly brilliant news, but it is good as the extra money always comes in handy. I did three 14 hour days in a row last week as an extra on a TV show too!

What an amazing couple of comments, thank you so much! This is what's so wonderful about MyLot. I've often sat here with my mouth open at the latest recruit so-to-speak and where they're at. The fact there is a guy from Oz and another from China next to one another, in my discussion, makes me feel...well, pretty good actually!
Film extra, eh? I'd be too wide to do that lol. Apparently, you look fatter on film.

Your Mum deserves it. I might not have replied to all the discussions about your Mam and her job but I always read anything you post and I think you have been missing for awhile. I only get here at the weekends at the best of times.
It is stories like your Mams getting her job back that restores my faith in humanity. It is great when people see sense

Either that or facing a huge payout of compensation they couldn't afford. Mum is currently finding out from the Union if she will definitely get HER kitchen back. The Union reckons she should and if she doesn't and she hates her new kitchen then she's been advised to ring the Union and tell them.
Mum rides her bike to work, you see. She doesn't want a school over an hour away but I told her they wouldn't do that to her surely?
I hope you got the PM of the bracelet OK. It's all very complicated regarding who's won and who hasn't and who's gonna pay and who isn't lol.
I dunno, nothing is straightforward is it?

I'm so happy that your mom got her job back. That is great news! If she hadn't fought the case this procedure would have gone on and on. Just because you are sixty-five shouldn't be a reason to lose your job. I haven't received any knews today yet but I still have another half of the day to go. We shall see! Have a great weekend!

If she'd been 65 next year all this wouldn't have happened because of the change in legislation for people that age. It looks like the others may be taken back on too (those of whom didn't want to retire) so the wrong procedures the Council followed didn't just apply to Mum, they applied to everyone else too. So, not only has she won her own job back but other people's as well!

That is great! She didn't just help herself she helped many others. There must be alot of people thanking her for the fight she gave and won. What a great feeling she must have for helping so many others. I love it!

Wow, this is really a very good news for your mom. I am so happy for her. I know she's excited to get back to work. I thinks her boss will be happy eventually that your mom is back to work and will just accept the fact the she is still willing to work in that company.

Many thanks for your kind words.

Tell your mom I am very happy for her. Me, I have not gotten any good news here. Still no jobs around here. The economy is real bad. But, it does pay off sometimes to fight back, she did and she won. Good for her. Now she will feel good about herself again. Great news.

Thanks..and I will pass on your sentiments when I ring her after her FIRST DAY in her new job (it's a cleaning day and she will be familiarising herself with the new equipment) and I only hope she gets some decent sleep. She's notorious for not sleeping well the night before she's back in work after a long holiday.
I'll be dying to know how she gets on!

It is really a tidings of great joy!I congratulate your Mum on it.This time, the Employment Tribunal upheld justice.Your Mum finally vented her resentment. You meant she won't go back to work in her original unit,so much the better, I think it is.

Mum has been thinking about going back to her kitchen and she does want it, rather than trying somewhere else. Her Union are with her on this too, which is important. Her employers have already admitted they were in the wrong trying to get rid of her..so, she has the upper-hand, so to speak. They cannot dictate to her where she should go, it should be the other way round. Plus the fact she rides her bike to work. The distance she travelled to her kitchen was favourable and she cannot think of anywhere else that will have vacancies and be within suitable bike-riding distance. She is 65 after all.
Haha!

Naturally the employers must feel compunction and lose face,But your Mum has had a hard time of it for quite some time.It is hard to heal a mental scar.

No brilliant news for me, but I am glad for your Mum. I have been angling for some part time hours at my old job, but I am picky. There is a certain position I really want, but I do not know if it is open or not. I will keep everyone posted though.

YEAH!!!!
no, nothing nearly so brilliant - but start saying "job" prayers for my friend Becky, she's being written up because she's the wrong race at her job, and is protesting the write up, and applying for jobs...
We would really like to see her in a different job where they won't be harassing her.

I will start saying "job" prayers for Becky. How on earth can anyone be the wrong race in a job? It just beggars belief how employers behave..this being the 21st Century. No further forward are we?

Aww, thanks very much! Well, if you can't stick up for your own mother, who can you stick up for lol.
I know what you mean though and it's a good job I was there for her, to be honest. As you can imagine, she was in bits when she first found out she'd been sacked...so to turn that around in such a short time is a major result as far as we're concerned. Her hours will probably be cut but she told me that won't necessarily be a bad thing!

That is wonderful news. I think it is terrible that this society tosses away perfectly good workers just because of their age. It makes me sick. I am glad your mother got her job back and I am glad that someone stuck up for her. We are hoping to get some good news very soon, my husband has been out of work for a couple of months now, and he has had several interviews with a company who seems to like him very much. We are hoping he will get an offer on Monday or Tuesday. That will be a huge relief to us, but we don't want to count our chickens before they are hatched.

Hi Tamara! Thank you for your good wishes. Mum is currently trying to find out which kitchen she will be working in. Obviously, she prefers going back to "her" kitchen, as she calls it and those kids go back before everyone else so they better get a move on and decide.
Also, the Union are with her on this so if she does end up somewhere far away (not ideal for bike-riding) she can get onto them and they SHOULD get her reinstated where she belongs..at Boundary.
I shall keep you all posted.

Not surprisingly, Mum is in an extremely good mood. Pity all this couldn't have happened when I was in Blackpool last week but never mind..at least she could ring me up about it.
She's starting to wonder which school she will be sent to as there are changes afoot to the one she spent most of her time in.
We shall see!

Hi, Janey, I'm so excited and relieved at the same time to hear that your mother got her job back, that is indeed wonderful news!! Finally she got what she deserves and wants.
I don't believe in mandatory retirement at all, as some people just like to work. A hundred years ago, people worked the whole time they were with us in this world.

That's a very good point you make there. We're all living longer too so why can't we work instead of retiring? Makes sense to me. It's the fact that Mum didn't have a choice in the matter that upset her the most..but all that is in the past now and she can lie awake thinking about which school she is going to be sent to rather than the lack of money.
