For better or worse

We are in this life for better or worse, each and every second we have that choice. I can hear you now, But, what if? What if. It is true that there is very little about life that we have control of, but what we do have control of is how we feel about it, our point of view and our reaction. Think of terrible things, like the earthquake in Japan, see yourself in the middle of this, maybe pined under something you then have a choice, you can remain passive and die, you can allow fear to overcome you so you cannot act, you can panic and waste your energy that way, or you can be thankful you are still alive, and start to do what you can to get out. Maybe it's hopeless and you can't get out, but you tried and you can approach your bodly death with knowledge that you have done what you could with this life, or if you get out you can face a new life with greatfullness or with anger and hate for what had happened to you. All these choices are yours. Even the most quite life has these choices day by day. Can you see this? What do you choose? Ask yourself these questions. Blessings

its all about how we control our emotions. Ive noticed that over the years, Im not reacting the same way to things that happen. Its not that I dont care, but I guess I know now that I can change things because of the way I react to them. Lets say you're in a conversation with someone and that person says something to hurt your feelings. You can get angry and yell at that person or you can smile and say something nice and watch how stupid they look Sure makes my day And this is how I like my day now, filled with happiness, spent with my loved ones.....and my dog lol!!

Not only does this make you happier but there is that little bit of pure joy just to watch others when the response is nothing like what they expected.

I would also add that we should not resent those whose temerity doesn't match our own. Some people cannot stay by our side through better or worse, thick and thin, richer or poorer, etc. They choose not to because they know, really or subconsciously, their limitations and how much pressure they can take. Whether they are life partners, friends or family we should not let ourselves be eaten up with resentment when they bail. I learned it the hard way and feel lighter in spirit for having forgiven.

Judging othres is one of our more dangerous sins, we have no way of avoiding the backlash of that weakness. I know that people think I do this, because often I will just say nothing when a judgement is called for. But do to all that I have been exposed to in my life I don't judge others. When I was in the position of hiring new workers I would always tell them to try their best but not to woory about the mistakes I have done them myself or watched others do them and if they just keep trying and ask for help they will learn the job and do well.

All I have to do is think about flush toilets and running water inside the house, a cloths dryer and automatic washer. That ruins the past for me. Only the very rich had those thing in the 20s and they had servants to do al the work.

I love your thoughtful posts Pat! You are right, life is all about choices. We may have very little control over events in our lives but we certainly have a choice how to feel and react. I believe that we can control our thoughts and therefore our feelings. We can choose, for example, whether to feel depressed over a negative incident or work our way through so we can come out the other side.

Hi savypat, This has to be one of the best discussions that I've see here in quite a while. It's not what happens to us but the way we take it that really counts in life. If you're in an accident at age 17 and is paralyzed from the waist down, it's up to you how you accept it. Some become angry and get upset because they see their friends doing things that they will never be able to do again. Others are grateful that they are still alive and determine to make the best of what they have. Such people are open happy and an inspiration to others around them. They find employment and many get married, and though they may not be able to have children of their own, they sometimes adopt. Attitude is what makes the difference. Blessings.
