What is it that you don't understand in: "Use myLot, post discussions, respond to discussions, comment on discussions, or perform searches."? or "Earnings are calculated based on a proprietary model that rewards quality responses, relevant discussions and images, and normal website activities."? You earn by taking part in discussions (which includes using photos and images which you have authority to use to illustrate your discussion), by using the Search facility and by undertaking tasks.

Via the FAQ Here is what I have gathered: Post in the discussions, respond to others and perform searches.

If you want to maximize your income here, make sure to reply to everyone that has left a response to your posts, otherwise you only get paid for the first response, and not the rest. You also need to make sure that you at the least leave 3 to 5 sentence responses. Think of it this way the more you write the more you get paid for, and not jibberish either. You need to post good quality responses.

I have been on my lot for two (2) months and based on what i experienced, we earn by making discussions and responding to discussions made by other mylot members. I just recently search the web here in mylot and I guess there is also earnings from this but I don't know how much. What I can say is that I enjoyed doing mylot.
