Facebook friends using Celebrity Names and Pictures

My friends and family usually put their complete name and even their pseudo names in Facebook such as 'Cory "LoveLove" Palma Ramirez'. But not everyone does this, sometimes I have friends who use names like Tom Cruise or George Clooney and the likes with the corresponding pictures in their profile. It doesn't annoy me much but sometimes it's odd and there's this feeling that I have to ask myself why people don't prefer putting their real information.
Do you think there should be rules about this like how Twitter verifies whether the people using these names are the real deal? I can deal with names with cartoon characters or pets as pictures because I'm guilty of the same thing but I find it odd chatting with a friend having "Clark Kent" for a Facebook name.

hi haopee
you right, there is no rules in facebook when we choose our name on it. that the weakness.
i have uploaded my photo on facebook, my real photos. but something happen to my album on facebook, my photo has gone. i don't know why, it strange for me. my password was hard to hacked. i think facebook still have very much bug on their site. including their weakness in rule.

i'v do that.i change my password every one week. it seem like this: you have no space for your old picture, and automatically deleted. but some my old pic still there. my friend too can't upload the pic for his page.

Really? That's good if you change your password often. The problem with passwords is when you have too many multiple accounts. That's when the complexity happens. Can your friend log in his account? Maybe his account was deactivated by Facebook or further changes in his account was locked. Sometimes you can still log in Facebook just to realized they had it locked or deactivated because it was used for spamming by some hackers.

Here's what I think.
I think that your friends are ashamed of who they are themselves and instead resort to using the personality of someone they adore. Whether it's some actor, athlete or singer, it doesn't matter.
They'll TELL you it's because they wish to keep a low profile, but actually, they just don't want to face reality, to face themselves.
And believe it or not, Facebook DOES have a rule which states that you must use your real name. The problem is that they don't really enforce that rule and thus nobody follows it.
Let them have their fun. It's cool, as long as they don't go all "look at how great I am" in your face about it.

I don't think it's necessarily because they're ASHAMED of who they are. It's usually because it's kind of funny. I have a friend that's really thin and kind of shy, and set his facebook page to Tom Cruise. The juxtaposition was hilarious. It's entertaining to see my friends try to impersonate others, and I think it's perfectly normal. I've done it before (I became Kim Yuna) and other people thought it was funny. I've never been ashamed of myself in my life before, and I wasn't then. It's just a joke between friends and is normal.

i think facebook has a weak rule to their member to use a real name. except if we wanna change our name.

I somewhat agree, as I've seen such gags on Facebook before. Like, for example, people naming themselves after Star Wars characters and playing out events from the movies.

That is for security reasons. I agree that it is dangerous to expose all your true information on the internet. But i dislike the idea of using the names of celebrities. It doesn't feel right but everyone has the right to do what they want to do. So, just ignore and let them do that.

Hey guys and gals. Yes, some people try to change their names into something different as joke. I don't mind those but others really go overboard.
And it's true insecurities are all over world wide web so it's not a surprise if one of your friends or my friends changed his profile picture for a a hot celebrity once in awhile.
Anyway, have a good day everyone.

Hi haopee! I have some friends in real life that uses a different last name. Or uses a different first name like "Pretty or Sweetheart". I guess that is fine if they don't put their real name. I think it is safer that way. About the Facebook of celebrities, I really don't care much about it. I saw a lot of Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in Facebook too haha.

Hello! Some people don't want to use their real names so with the picture neither to avoid scam and spam.
I do put my real name and picture on it so it's easy for my friends and relatives to find me specially the long lost one. I don't care for spam thing.

A lot of people that are on Facebook , don't use their real name.I use my real ,my full name to be exact.I have a friend, and her name is the longest name i see on Facebook....she use her pet name, and a lot of alias in her profile which i don't think is necessary. Some people still don't use their own pictures on Facebook.
some of them have reasons, not to use their real name and real picture on the web.But i never accept any one with cartoon picture, its just not appropriated to chat with a cartoon character lol.

Oh dear, I'm guilty of having cartoon characters as avatar. I took a picture of a T-shirt I had personally printed and took a picture of it.
I have friends like your friends but it's fine I guess. As long as she has an identifier such as a nickname I'm a familiar with then it's okay.

Sometimes it's a joke. I know my friends occasionally put weird names and celebrity names as their facebook name, and it's pretty funny sometimes. It's just a humor thing, and I usually just ignore it. I have a friend that says he's married to "Sci Ence" with a photo of Einstein.
I can understand why it would be a little weird for some people, but don't let it bother you too much. It's usually a temporary thing and they'll change it back. Just let them do whatever they want, but only to an extent. Completely impersonating someone else can lead to online abuse issues, and I've seen that happen. One person tried to completely copy someone else's facebook page, and began impersonating them on facebook.
Twitter's rules are a little severe...usually I just use facebook for my circle of friends and no one else, so I don't worry about outside intruders.
Happy mylotting!

I can see where it could raise a few eyebrows considering that some celeberities have face book accounts. However, it doesn't directly affect me so I wouldn't be bothered by it. I understand there are some things people wish to hide online, or use it as an opportunity to redefine themselves because they got cheeted out of being who they want (or think) they want to be. And, if they have something to hide that's their business. Just don't go posting personal information and complain that you don't like the comments directed at you. Once you post it, it's there to stay and even if you manage to delete something there's a chance someone saw it and can use it against you.

The joy of social media is largely attributed to anonymity. But the web is very scary and I understand why there are people who are truly scared of posting personal information in the web. I'm guilty of that as well. Some of my friends wouldn't even dare make their bank accounts online.
But back to facebooking (a term now readily accepted by the internet masses), unfortunately they're always be instances that they'd be tagged in their friends picture hence exposing them anyway. LOL.

Some of my friends do that too. But it doesn't bother me at all. I also don't put my own picture on my profile and use an avatar instead. Some people want their own identity private, and it could be one reason. Some are just fanatics and that is the reason why they put photos of their have stars. I think there is no reason to put a rule against that. People are free to do as they feel and as long as they don't claim the identity of the photos they use, then I guess that is fine.

I think it is for attracting more friend request
Much people want to befriend with celebrities, right? :)
An verified account can be a solution, but I think using Facebook as fan base isn't really efficient enough Except, if they are using fanpage :)
Anyway, if he/she is using it for gaining more friends, it would being "fake friends" as he/she is using "fake identity" .
Maybe several people still enjoy it though?

Fake identity= fake friends. For those people, it's too bad that they can't accept who they really are but if it's just for fun then it's fine. It's just sometimes "George Clooney" just popped a chat sound and I will have to think who of my friends uses the account profile.

If you think celebrity names are annoying get this, I have friends who write their name in Japanese, it cannot get more annoying than that, when I search for them it is super hard to find them. Other than that, isn't it better to just be ourselves? I enjoy things more when I am honest about who I am and do not try to imitate others.
