I heard that in some parts of the world mustache is taken as a sign of manhood. Also I heard from several men that beard makes them look older. It is like a trick to make a young face appear mature. But the question is, do women really like men in mustache and beard?

I don't like facial hair at all.
I prefer a man to shave, as it looks cleaner and smarter, and more attractive.
don't get me wrong. some peoplem prefer facial hair, but I definitely prefer without. it's much more attractive to see a mans face, without it being partially hidden by hair, that can often look scruffy,

In agreement with you on this. Men look cleaner without beard. It is proven by now. Yes, some people prefer facial hair. But majority of the women don't like it in men. I still don't understand why then young guys go for it. There are several in colleges.

Yeah some wear it for mature effect but for me I think even a guy always cleansed himself it looks the same to me, unclean.I think most girls prefer their man to look clean,if possible mustache and beard neatly shaved.Maybe others do preferred it for their own reasons. To look manly or macho.

The "mature effect" phrase made me laugh, but it is a good way to explain the reason. If you take a look around this discussion forum you will see that most women said they do not like men in beard and mustache. I guess that explains a lot. But there are people out there who see men with facial hair dark and handsome.

Hello divineathena,
I have mustache and no beard but there is no such compulsion to have it to show manhood.I believe that there should be some difference in man and woman face and thats the reason why i kept it.But yes men do look young when they are clean shaved.Women also i think like clean shaved man.I have been clean shaved too many times but i feel i look good with it.

Hi sjvg,
The tradition of thinking that manhood is related to mustache and beard exists in some cultures of the world. It is not there everywhere.

You said it in a short and sweet way. Beard does not reveal the full face. So it is hard to say what the man exactly look like. I heard that beard gives itch in the skin. I am not sure how true it is. But itchiness is a sign of not a good thing. Perhaps, it is the germ?

I totally agree with you. A man without mustache and beard look cleaner. They simply look very fresh, right?

It depends on the person, some faces are complimented by it others aren't. Also, if it doesn't grow in and looks straggly or thin it's not good. Keeping it trimmed and neat is a requirement, unkempt doesn't look good no matter who you are. Example, when Brad Pitt had that horrible mess of a beard. :D

I think beard makes a person look not only lazy, but also depressed. The brokenhearted make lover concept is quite nicely associated with beard. In pain, he forgets to shave off his beard. In movies also, the beard is often linked to unemployment. Again, the beard makes the actor look depressed with his situation.
But I do believe just like you that a face must be fit to have beard. It is not just for everyone. I dislike the long beard most. It looks extremely dirty.

I prefer a cleanly-shaven man. I guess not all men look good wearing a mustache or a beard. I will never like my man to have a moustache but having a beard is fine with me.

I actually agree with you on that. Totally matches my own opinion. What do you think about French beard? Apparently, it looks nice on Jonny Depp. But his long hair is an obstacle to his "beauty".

A well trimmed moustache gives a decent look but a beard makes me feel that the person is lazy. Some men do look good in beard but an unshaven face is a sign of total laziness. Preferences differ from person to person. Happy mylotting.

Even I thought that the beard makes men look lazy. As I mentioned before, some people keep it to look intellectual. I think it has a lot do with those professionals who devote their time to solving a problem or creating something unique. They spend so much time on it that they forget to shave. So I guess men think it makes them look busy with intellectual or scientific work. But what they forget to realize is that did not graduate with a PhD.

I havent asked why my husband keeps a moustache and a beard but I like it. His beard is not long. He keeps it close to his face. Its uncommon here to look like that and I like it.

I guess there are certain faces that go well with beard and moustache. Your husband falls in this category. But I really don't think that the two suit every man. They should go with what looks nice on them instead of using it as a the trick to look mature.

Well its not mustache or beard which we like or dislike but the presentation of showcasing them is the real part which inspire us to love or hate things.
So as per my choice is concern, I like them some time very much but some time I really hate them which is totally on the presentation instead of just mustache or beard.
Cheers :D

I have the same thing to say. Beard and mustache aren't for every man. I remember seeing some many with beard on television shows. They looked like depressed with their unemployment situation. It is not that they were really suffering from that. But somehow the beard and mustache made them look like that.

I look young for my age. And yes, I try to grow my mustache to make me look old enough and mature. I don't know, sometimes I like my look when I have my mustache but sometimes I feel it do be dirty. Maybe I look best when I got a mustache with still little hairs which are just about to grow and not the very long and dirty looking ones. I really don't know if it is quite attractive to girls. I never got a compliment form growing it. But I see that a lot of famous stars and actors do grow them.

In Hollywood, there was a time when high profile actors used to grow mustache. But the arrival of people like Tom Cruise made the trend fade. But I noticed that Brad Pitt has it now. I won't say he looks great with it. I think different faces need different looks. Some of them are just not suitable for mustache.
But I truly understand your issue. Even I thought that perhaps, some men found the growing mustache a bit dirty. It can surely attract dust. But what really makes you think it is dirty sometimes?

Do you feel it makes them look more manly and responsible. I noticed many artists have a beard. Women simply love that about them. Interestingly, this gets many men have a good number of female fans and admirers.

Different women have different taste in men. Your girlfriend might be the one who would love a guy with them. Let's see what other ladies have to say about it.

i think mustache is just a sign of growing up but the thing is if a boy at 2oyrs is keep it for a period of 5yrs you will say the person is a man right that also means osama is a man with a little age. been a man has nothing to do with mastache but in your mature to handle responisibility and to take care of thing if it is called for.soguy should cut out those beard of theirs ok

Do you think having a long beard can also be taken as a sign of laziness. I noticed that it takes more than half an hour to shave even the tiniest beard. Examples are my dad and boyfriend. Once they start shaving, they don't come out of the bathroom easily.

I don't. I prefer clean shaven men. I don't like a heavy mustache. I don't like kissing someone with a mustache and having it scratch me. I prefer men with less body hair in general. I don't like hairy chests. So face hair and chest hair is a turn off for me.

I think that, on some guys, beard and mustache looks very handsome. I think that it does suit some guys, but I don't think that it suits all of them. I think that it just doesn't look as good on some guys. I think that it just depends on the guy in question.

I personally don't like a beard. But I think some men look really attractive with a mustache. When I think of beard's I think of a lot older, and so it doesn't appeal to me. The problem with both though is that they are scratchy.

Nice question, I actually don't like men with mustaches and beards. I prefer clean shaven men. I just like the baby-faced type. I've also seen men who look better in beards and mustaches, though.
In Arab countries, I heard it's almost a requirement to grow a mustache or beard because they say men who don't grow it look like girls or are usually mistaken for girls.

I am not fond of beard and mustache. At least, I would not accept this in my own boyfriend. But yeah, I did have an Arab ex (international student) I met in school. Umm, he was a little too modern for my taste and I learned a lot about his Arab culture. He had no beard or mustache. But somehow I was still not attracted to him (sorry).
