I wonder what are the advantages to having an account with Facebook?

I do not have a Facebook or Twitter account. So many of my friends and relatives do and my kids do. The kids tell me it helps them keep track of old friends. That seems like a good idea especially when one has just graduated. Still I wonder what are other advantages? Is it really worth the time and effort??

I know some people that are able to spend hours on facebook. However, I only use facebook to keep in touch with old friends that I might not have been able to find in real life. Facebook allows you to easily message and chat with your friends, and even search for friends that you thought you would never see again! It's also really handy for planning events and meetings and whatnot. There are also some games that are available for people to play on there too, but in all honesty, they're a waste of time. I definitely think a Facebook account is worth it, so it's easier to keep in touch with people you know, especially with our advancing technology and computers.

TY..again, old friends. I had not thought of events planning ..but perhaps you don't want to invite everyone? If you don't want some to know they were not invited..could get messy...

You can make private events where you simply invite only those you wish to invite! The only way it could really "get messy" is if they saw pictures of heard of the event from word of mouth... I guess it's just good to keep track of your schedule, and various things you have to do here and there.

there are a lot of disadvtantages- putting up with silly people updates etc...in my mind there is only 1 advantage- snooping around on other people.

lol that is funny. and probably very true in some cases...I do wonder about putting that much personal info online. I know it can be restricted but with so many hackers out there...I wonder...

TY That is about the only advantage I am seeing...keeping up with family and friends. Certainly a post is quicker and easier than writing to each individually.

facebook is a good way to talk to people online but I don't think it is safe at all, I use skype chat and only to people I know and have meet in person. the games on facebook are fun and intertaning!! if you do sign up to facebook just alway think about who you add as a freind and who you don't!!

log0008 & zhawee Good advice to be careful, but I still think about the hackers. No matter how careful one is, there will always be hackers. I know there are risks in everything so I guess we just have to decide do the benefits outweigh the risks..

I have a Facebook account and I think some advantage are that you can add your friends and share stuff with them also chat with them, and you can play games. I think it is worth it. I will recommend that you put your account settings to friends only ,so on one else can see your personal information.

It is good to make new friend, (cautiously) and to keep up with old ones and family members..For example, right now I am communicating with my niece who lives too far away, and she is telling me about how she is helping her boyfriend and his mom pack up because they are moving. She keeps me up to date with her life and her sister's lives..

I think it is worth it, especially facebook. I am not in contact with over 100 people that I went to high school, who I may have never seen again, I think that is really cool to be able to keep up with people and their lives, and they also have all kinds of get togethers and stuff too that get planned through facebook which is really nice. It is a very nice way to stay connected with people, and share photos and things like that.

I guess some of the adVantages of Facebook would be to stay in contact with people over the years easily. I have family that lives far away and they all have Facebook so we can share pictures and information on Facebook that we would forget to tell each other because we live so far away. the one thing I do not believe in is where adults make Facebook accounts for their children who are still in childhood. Like five or six years old. I never found the point in it!

Wow..starting at 5 or 6 is really young..I agree it seems pointless. I suppose it is an introduction and learning process for them.

I found it (facebook) an awesome way of finding friends I had lost track of long time ago. And great for communicating with family that lives far away or that I never get to see. I have fond many new online friends with similar interest. I get to keep in touch with former work colleauges after they have moved on to other jobs etc. I also use both twitter and facebook to network my zazzle items and showcase the items I have made. I get others opinions on what they think is hot or not and helps me in making the next zazzle creations. Facebook has a ton of games you can play -it's a great way to socialize and relax. :)

One advantage is now I can monitor if there are reunions, birthdays and anniversaries of families and friends. I get invited as well since they now know how to contact me. Pictures of family members who resides in other country is posted and I get to see them as well. Thus, I get updated with how they look now. Also, communication is easier now. Have a nice day!

Facebook is mainly used to connect with old friends, classmates, relatives etc. One will get pleasure when their friends have reached in a good status, or help your friend if he/she is in a bad position. We can also share our light moments with them and can also ask opinion about our decision that we make. We cannot live as single, as we need to harmoney and social interaction. Today Facebook has turned for promoting goods and sevices. We can also review products by placing in social network sites and choose to buy or not.

Good point...The promotion of goods and services is certainly an intelligent way to take advantge of this network that seems to be growing and growing.

It is great for keepng up with friends and family. To use it properly you must really check in once a day i think. the disadvantages - its a huge timewaster as you go to check in and suddenly hours have passed. Also I'ver had a partner leave for someone he met online - so watch out for that kind of behaviour as well.

LOL timewaster sounds familiar..I often get carried away with just surfing the internet... I have heard of stalking stories about the net..can be scary.

Well over all I think with anything else in life, there is Good and Bad when being a member of Facebook. It truly is a Good way to be able to keep up with friends and relatives. Also a Great way to make New friends and just find other things that might interest you as well. As for Twitter I never use it even though I am signed up with them. Might use that more to promote my Business.

I think that it's wonderful to be able to keep in contact with some of the people who you haven't seen for years. It's lovely to see what they're getting up to in their lives, whether they're getting married, where they ended up working, whether they have children and all sorts of things like that. That being said, I get a little bit fed up of people adding you as a friend who you never liked at school or even worse those who bullied you. I feel like asking them why on Earth they want to be friends now because they were never interested in me before.

I know there are people out there that are glued to there facebook or twitter accounts. I do have one, but it is set to private and my friends on there are either people I graduated with (20 yrs ago) or my family and some of them are out of state so it is way for me to keep up with them and for them to keep up with me and my kids. for me it is a great advantage to have to keep up with my family, but I dont use it to play games or for any other reason. You can always sign up for an account, if after a month you see that you dont use it or it doesnt seem like an advantage for you...you can always cancel it. good luck with it and Happy Mylotting.

I personally don't have a twitter, I am not into stating statuses or current activities, but I do have a facebook account, which I rarely am active on No advantages with facebook really, unless you would like to connect with people from the past etc. And facebook will give you that ability as almost everyone has it. Also, having a facebook/ twitter account will allow you to access many sites instead of registering for an account from that site. Those sites will have "please sign up or log in with your facebook or twitter account". But, generally it is not worth the time and effort, unless you would like to keep in touch with people, past friends, current friends etc. There are perhaps other activities like games on facebook, but their just addicting games, not really fun games if that made sense ha ha.

the advantages are you can connect with your relatives, friends and old friends only if they have account, you can meet new friends, share photos, musics, ideas, for business, finding love. worth the time and effort if you use it as a advantage, take note if there's advantages there will disadvantages, too.. just use it positively and wisely.
